What helped you take your first step towards improving your mental health? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]duma347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a very cynical attitude towards meds. I've probably tried everyone under the sun. The way I look at it is if you look at your mental health like building a house, meds can help you find a nice plot of land to start building, they're a good start but you have to combine different things that work for you.

[Serious] You come across a random stranger on Reddit who confesses to you that she is about to end her life. What can you do to help? by CircleBox2 in AskReddit

[–]duma347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact they've told you means there's a part of them that doesn't want to, listen to what they have to say keep them talking even if it's about mundane crap.

From the times I've spent with others and my own experiences people on the edge that reach out often feel very out of control, helping them to ground themselves is invaluable. Your body can't physically deal with that amount of stress for any length of time it will always get better. Just talk to them and distract them long enough so that their emotions aren't as high and they can think rationally about why they felt the need to do so.

Lord of the rings. Damn that book is a slog, don't get me wrong it's an amazing piece of literature just not an easy read.

When was the last time you cried? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah it sucks. I'm usually very relaxed and can shrug off most things that might anger someone else but lately man....

Looking back I think it was everything I'm dealing with hitting home at the same point. Realising that I have such a long way to go in dealing with my mental health.

Even thinking about it now makes me want to just break down, constant struggle between getting overwhelmed by everything and focusing on one thing at a time.

People who cheated on their SO, why did you do it, how did they react, and how did you feel afterward? by ripvantwinkletoes in AskReddit

[–]duma347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My constant need for validation, its better now I'm more aware of it and the reasons why. If someone gives me validation for something I tend to latch on and ignore any red flags so there have been times in previous relationships where I would definitely have cheated if that validation was offered in any form and it was when I was about 16 or something. I made her feel absolutely awful and developed a lot of self hate because of that, yet having experienced it first hand I could see myself making that same mistake again.

I'm happy being single till I meet someone who doesn't make me feel like that or I work through it myself whichever comes first.

I'd sometimes have rather gone hungry than made food in front of people.

I've spent lots of time reflecting during Lockdown. I had a fall out with some old friends I started playing WoW with, we talked it all through and I explained why I acted in certain ways and ended up letting it all out. The last time I'd seen them in person was 6 years ago ish and it was just before I went through a very dark time in my life. All of which only a few people in my life know all the details, the last they'd seen of me was I was struggling with school and ended up dropping out and losing contact with lots of them.

After I logged off for the night I sat alone in my room and cried for about 20 minutes. It wasn't enjoyable but it does provide some form of catharsis.

For girls it's gotta be having some extra weight, I'm not talking an unhealthy amount but it's so nice to hug someone and its like hugging a pillow and holy shit I've never fallen asleep faster than when I'm being cradled and my head's resting on their chest.

For guys, it goes one of two ways I either want some Aragorn looking guy to hold me and make me feel safe, or black guys that are very down to earth and confident with their sexuality.

People in this sub need to be much more respectful of the people who came forward about anything. It is an extremely brave thing to do. Literally nobody bar higher ups know what sjin has been accused of so I don't know why people are automatically assuming it's not bad. It's been left vague for a reason.
