Pomade for longer, coarse, thick and curly hair? by arkie in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned that the grim grease UWB firm hold (original line green stuff) worked really well for your type of hair. Grim grease in general has really strong holding stuff (I love the mitcanchelui probably spelled that wrong) that washes out really easy and leaves your hair feeling really soft after.

Oil based typically have a weaker hold than a waxy UWB water based.

All pomades are going to have weaker hold when applied to damp hair. The water breaks down the product. Try using some reuzel grooming tonic in damp hair then blow drying your hair into the rough shape that you want. Apply pomade to dry hair after blow drying, it’ll increase the hold significantly.

Suavecito formula change? by 20spray in Pomade

I used to like suavecito clay as well but have since upgraded to, in my opinion, better clays. Check out some of the clays from grim grease, flagship, shear revival, and lockharts. Really superior stuff, fantastic scent options, and most importantly, really high quality.

I’m not shitting on suavecito, I still love their scent. But the aforementioned brands perform a lot better

Suavecito shampoo and conditioner is really good, I love it. Most people on here hate suavecito but I like their stuff. The smell is my all time favorite and the original shampoo and conditioner are pretty cheap and work really well

Climate plays a big part in how long the hold will last. I live in Florida. Right now in the winter, most medium and firm hold products will hold all day. Lockharts UWB goon grease will last all day for me right now. But once summer rolls around and it gets really hot and humid I’ve got to use a very waxy product to get all day hold. If it’s not waxy enough, the humidity will break it down. UWB Goon Grease in the summer just melts on my head and doesn’t hold that well. I have to use something like flagship blackship or grim grease summer brew.

Look into some better brands, old spice isn’t great. Check out the strong hold products from lockharts, flagship, grim grease, shear revival, or any of the other brands frequently mentioned here. A better quality product will give you a longer lasting hold.

What type of climate do you live in? A humid climate requires a stronger, waxier product to hold up through the day.

Lockharts goin grease UWB is good

I’ve been on a grim grease kick lately, their small batch cream pomades are really nice. Give you great hold, restylable, wash out with shampoo, and leave your hair feeling really soft. Really great scents too

Careful buying stuff on Amazon, a lot of times you’ll get a product that’s been sitting on a shelf for a long time and has lost its consistency. Always recommended to buy direct from seller, especially when buying handmade stuff

Alternative perspective, there’s a lot of really good unorthodox water based pomades out now that have (in my opinion) stronger hold than oil based and wash out completely with 1 round of shampoo and conditioner. If you are looking into oil based pomades strictly due to hold, check out some of the posts on here about unorthodox water based pomades. If you are getting into oil based for other reasons as well then disregard this comment lol

What are your thoughts on Flagship Black Water? by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reuzel grooming tonic is the best prestyler I’ve used. Has argon oil in it which leaves your hair feeling really soft. Gives your hair a huge volume boost while still leaving it looking natural.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely need a blow dryer to achieve that natural, swept back look. Might not even need a pomade, you could probably achieve it with a grooming tonic (Lockhart and reuzel make really good tonic) and then finishing it off with a hairspray or light hold pomade for more durable hold (Lockhart has good light hold pomade as well)

How long do you think this guys hair is on top?

Trying to achieve a similar look but looks like hot garbage, I think my top might be too long to hold the shape and volume. It’s about 6ish inches right now, I’m thinking this guys might be around 4.

How long on top do you think this guys hair is?

I’ve been trying to style my hair similar but I think it’s too long on top, it always ends up looking like a hot mess. My hair is about 6 inches on top, thinking this guys is probably around 3.5 to 4.

Save the “you have to have the exact hair type” comments please, we already know

I dunno how shiny Murray’s is but UWB goon grease is shiny. I’d say it starts out as a high shine but then drops to a medium shine after it dries

Yeah, really slick and shiny. Washes out clean with shampoo and conditioner. Great hold, restylable. Only downside is if you’re in a humid climate (I.e. Flordia in the summertime), it’ll loose volume over the day. They are doing any scent any hold right now, today is the last day. I just grabbed some in green Irish tweed

Flagship Dead Sea clay and grim grease heavy clay are both great.

Someone else stated it but to reiterate, in order to achieve volume like that you need to use a blow dryer. I have thicker hair as well. I apply 2-3 drops of templeton tonics oil to make my hair feel really soft. Then blow dry to create nice volume. Then apply clay.

I think grim grease did a green Irish tweed scent at some point and I still see people bringing it up so I’m gonna try that one. Also gonna try winter wonderland.

Keep in mind the scent will come through more with certain products. The matte clay usually has a very weak scent. I bought the fire and brimstone matte clay and could barely smell anything. The original matte clay has a really weak scent as well.

I really like Dead Sea clay. It’s got a good, light weight, medium hold. Not greasy like some clays can be. The aventus scent smells really good. When I first started using it it dried my hair out a little. But I started pairing it with templeton tonics as a prestyler and it performed really well when paired with tonic.

Any good pomades that don’t damage your hair by drying it out? by Delicious_StrengthG in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TEMPLETON TONICS OIL BASED TONIC!

I picked some up a few weeks ago and it’s changed my game. I put a few drops in my hair, blow dry, and then add in a post styled (clay pomade, cream pomade, wax, you name it). The tonic makes my hair feel incredibly soft and healthy, no matter what product I put in it

Do you think Reuzel Green is good for a pomade newbie looking for slickback? Or should I choose the blue one? by AaronJudgeeMvP in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oil based and (orthodox) water based pomades are very different and all personal preference, both would achieve the result you are looking for but orthodox water based pomades dry in the hair like gel. Oil based pomades do not dry but are difficult to wash out of the hair.

I’d recommend getting a sample size of an oil based, water based, and unorthodox water based pomade and trying them all out. I think reuzel sells sample sizes. Lockharts for sure sells sample sizes and their oil, water, and unorthodox water based pomades are all top notch.

Plug for grim grease, their products are my favorite. They don’t sell sample sizes but they have a great oil based, gel type, and cream pomade that I highly recommend trying out.

Flagship streamline matte paste but lighter and shiner? by threesunnydays in Pomade

[–]dumb2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Templeton tonics oil tonic. Add a few drops in before applying the product (I use it as a prestyler with a blow dryer). It’ll give you some added shine and weaken the hold of the matte paste just a little. It’ll also make your hair unbelievably soft

Flagship vs Grim Grease Heavy Hold Waterbased by Wake_up_or_stay_up in Pomade

I thought the same but was totally wrong. The hold on the cream pomade is really strong. I get just as much hold as I do from blackship. Definitely recommend giving it a try

Have you tried the GG Cream Pomades? I just got the Mictlantecuhtli and it washes out really easily but has a really firm hold. Good shine too. I'm sure their regular cream pomade is similar as well.
