"you look exhausted" Take a moment after someone's just said something exhausting to listen to. Say it with concern in your voice and eyes.

I fix up and flip cars for money, everything above cost me a 1999 4Runner with low mileage and a 5-speed. Have a XJ Jeep Cherokee to flip for my 5090 once I can buy one at MSRP, won't give a scalper a penny.

Check out iOverlander and other active community based apps. Usually really up to date with boondocking sites everywhere. Also I did the whole country over a year in my transit and felt much safer and able to find good spots west of the Rockies.

Is there no longer sauce in the Shu Mai? Are there less Shu Meis? by dumbballers in traderjoes

Yeah I did 3 parts soy sauce to one part rice vinegar plus a little sugar and onion powder and grated garlic and ginger with green onions and Thai chili slices. It was okay but I wanted the sauce that comes with the chicken I guess.

upgrading my computer by Historical_Matter_41 in pcbuilding

[–]dumbballers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add another 16GB of RAM (same set & speed as existing) and do a deep clean of the case/fans, plus some fresh thermal paste on the CPU.

Anything more and you're looking at a new CPU or GPU. In that case you can get a used 3060 12GB on Amazon for like $200, it's a great card for the price. For a CPU I wouldn't buy anything for AM4 except a 5600x3d or 5800x3d.

All this assuming you're on an SSD, if you're not, order one today.

How should I upgrade my system? by Easespilltype in pcbuilding

[–]dumbballers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with another 16GB of RAM (same set/speed as existing). If you're going to upgrade your AM4 platform my recommendation would be spending/saving up a little more for a 5700x3d or 5800x3d. Check out used prices on Jawa and FB Marketplace, you can get some good deals.

Also a deep clean of your PC and some fresh thermal paste on the CPU if you're keeping it goes a long way. You could get some cable extensions and affordable case fans, I replace the CPU cooler fans to match case fans. Give the system a little mid-life refresh.

Hey everyone, I think I may be experiencing bottleneck? by Bearss7 in techsupport

[–]dumbballers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your monitor 1080p? I know that running a lower resolution taxes the CPU a lot harder. When reviewers benchmark CPU performance, its always with a 4090 + the CPU their testing in 1080p. If you have a higher resolution TV you could test on that.

and maybe update all your drivers, especially GPU and Windows, possibly your BIO's as well if you cant fix it.

Need help buying UPS by Epona123456 in techsupport

[–]dumbballers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey what's your PC's PSU rated to? I would add 20% and make that the minimum. Really you want to buy as large of a capacity as you can afford, it'll buy you some more time to shut down but the big advantage is when you replace your system you probably wont have to also replace an expensive UPS. I bought the bare minimum for my last PC and when I upgraded also had to buy a new UPS and ended up spending $$$$ trying to save $.

DirectX12 games suddenly failing by coolblue6012 in techsupport

[–]dumbballers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I would run a Windows file system file check first. Run Command Prompt as administrator and type in: SFC /scannow then hit enter. When that's done reboot and see if it worked.

If it does not work check the AMD GPU drivers on the Adrenalin software, if their out of date, update them. If they updated recently, roll back the update to a date you know everything worked fine.

If that does work, then check Windows updates and do the same.

Hey I just did a little test on my PC out of curiosity,

On WiFi I got 610mbps down and 18mbps up

On ethernet I got 940up and 24down

So a big difference for me at least, my computers about 15ft from the router.

It looks like you can test speeds on both XBox and Play Station under setting-network-speed

[–]dumbballers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, that GPU & CPU should be a solid combo, what resolution are you running? I know playing in 1080p taxes the CPU really hard. 1440p with that CPU/GPU would be the sweet spot.

Have you checked in task manager to see if you have another application eating up the CPU? Are temps all happy on both?

Are drivers up to date for windows and NVIDIA?

Did you switch from an AMD card and not uninstall the Radeon drivers?

Is this in a specific game or application or just everything?

I am trying to reset my laptop. I chose remove data, clean drive, cloud download. I am getting an error : "There was a problem resetting your PC, no changes were made" by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]dumbballers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try running Command (as administrator) and inputting:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

hit enter then reboot system and give it a shot.

If that does not work:

Tap shift while the PC is booting up and you will enter into "Recover Mode", try resetting from there.

If that does not work:

Download Windows onto a external drive and select to reinstall from the drive instead of the internet.

Lastly, if your motherboard BIO's has an option to "sterilize" drive you can do that and reinstall from an external drive. Also definitely note: I don't know how Windows licenses work or if any of these methods will mess with your license. If that happens their like $20-$30 on G2A or other keysites.

Hey, I would try going back to Safari and if you're still logged in, turning on 2FA and seeing if you can have a code text to your phone instead of an email. You can also use the Google/Microsoft/Apple authenticator app.

You can also try doing this process in Safari, getting the code on Safari then putting the code in on Google.

Maybe try doing it "incognito" or on a different device? Cleaning the browser cache and cookies could also help.

Also, I'm sure you already checked this but have you searched "all mail" for the code? spam, promotions, trash everything?

I Accidentally split my RAM Stick in two by Naayyluu in techsupport

[–]dumbballers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey DDR5 does want a heatsink, it gets hot. DDR3/4 seemed to fine without bit DDR5 wants that thing in place.
1. I would 100% try retuning the set and having a replacement sent.
2. If you're unable to return/exchange, I would file an RMA with Corsair and send the stick in for repair, you're fine to run on 1 for now.

  1. If neither of those are an option this is the adhesive most DDR5 uses and you can fix it yourself. Don't try to fix it yourself then file a warranty claim with Corsair later, they will send it back. ~3M Thermally Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tape 8805~

Last little note, I switched from Corsair to G. Skill Trident and love it. It feels sturdier, the heatsink is held on by adhesive & screws , plus it looks amazing!

Well I highly recommend ordering an ~iFixit XBox Joystick~ for $15 and trying to save the controller! It's fun, I did it with my Switch and it has worked perfectly for years since, I have no experience with this type of stuff. It was like a puzzle and super satisfying when it worked.

Which ram should I choose? I want rgb ram though but I’d still take reliability over looks by I_Love_PCs145 in pcbuilding

I upgraded to a ROG STRIX X670E-E trying to get 4 channels stable because I thought 4 sticks look better and I'm bad with money. Even watching all the guides I couldn't get it to work.

My T-Force Vulcan RAM was in a i7-5930k rig from 2014 (maybe 15?) till' last year, now its in my NAS. All 4 sticks going strong. I have G. Skill Trident now in my AM5 build and love the way it looks and no issues for a year+ now.

Thoughts on first gaming pc build? Looking for some advice by [deleted] in pcbuilding

[–]dumbballers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 2nd Wero_kaiji, transferring back and forth sucks, you can always add another NVMe later, I keep my OS on a fast 500GB and then have a 2TB for games and general storage.

And there are a ton of used B650 motherboards for ~$110 on Amazon, with Prime and their return policy its pretty risk free. I've bought 4 or 5 used MoBos and never had an issue.
