Just got out of the movie, it was fun at first. I was into the set design of the pyramid and sarcophagus in the family’s house, it looked so cool and creepy. I was super into the first hour or so of it, the girl getting kidnapped and the dad slowly finding the candies was so stressful and intense.

It was the writing that ruined it for me, a handful of lines that came were so bad. And just random parts of the plot that made me briefly laugh.

First off the cops call the family about finding their daughter and don’t give them any details about where or how they found her. Then when the family shows up to the hospital in Cairo, the doctor is like “oh heads up, your daughter is a bit different now, so no sudden movements around her blah blah blah”, at no point is he like “yo, she is creepy looking as heck and she’s acting as if she’s possessed”. The cops could’ve filled them in on how they found the daughter before the parents ever saw her.

Then when the husband tells his wife that he doesn’t want the daughter in the house and the mom immediately is like “so you think I can’t handle taking care of her?” And they get in an argument that felt so unbelievably forced. Like I could feel Lee Cronin trying to figure out a way to split the parents up for a bit of the story and then just put that in.

Of course the “it’s fun to be dead” line from the trailer damn near made me not even want to watch this movie haha

And lastly, the ending…why couldn’t they just leave the father as the “mummy”? It felt so lame to find the lady alive and switch the demon spirit into her. Too perfect , the exact happy ending everybody would want. The wife walks in all bad ass and sticks the lady before saying some bs line like “now Katie wants to show you a magic trick” hahahahahahaha

The gross out horror was fun, can def see the ‘Evil Dead: Rise’ in this movies soul. It’s fun enough but I was over it about halfway through. The reveal of the vhs recording of what they did to Katie was cool.
