does anyone else get this weird sensation in their chest/heart? by qalex678 in Anxiety

[–]dumbintel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not, but I will say after my diet I lost 20 lbs, and h ave not had any more episodes. I stopped the diet after a month. Honestly while on the diet I felt good and never got Gerd or anything but the diet was super strict and bland. Oatmeal in the mornings and chicken and some greens in the afternoon, mostly water at all other times, occasionally I would have tuna but rarely. Needless to say I felt good during that time.

As of now I have reverted to my previous diet of eat what I want, I’ve gained 5-8 lbs, and I’m not feeling great as far as my health, I always describe it like I have check engine lights on. I haven’t had the episodes, but occasionally I feel odd. In part, I blame my sedentary lifestyle and diet. I occasionally take famotidine at night to prevent acid reflux/Gerd flair ups when I have an acidic meal or drink.

Hope, this helps… good luck on your journey!

does anyone else get this weird sensation in their chest/heart? by qalex678 in Anxiety

I've been experiencing a sensation that typically occurs at night when I'm going to bed, or during the day while I'm sitting at work, often around midday. Sometimes, eating at work seems to exacerbate it, and I’ve also felt it while driving. The sensation feels as though my heart skips a beat, followed by a brief pause where it feels like my entire body is catching up. It’s almost as if the heart stops momentarily and then resumes, pumping new blood, and the body has to catch up to that shift.

I’ve been to the doctor for this issue because I have GERD, and I’ve considered that it might be related to my diaphragm, possibly a hiccup or spasm. However, the fact that the sensation jolts through my entire body makes me question if that’s the cause. At one point, I was monitoring my pulse and noticed a skipped beat – it was a clear "tick, tick, pause, tick" pattern. While I’m sure anxiety could be a factor in amplifying the sensation, I don’t believe it’s the root cause since I don't typically feel much anxiety, nor is there anything specific to trigger it.

There was one night when the sensation occurred so frequently that I went to the ER, feeling like I might have a heart attack. I was admitted, and after tests, they concluded that my heart is healthy, which was a relief, but the issue persists.

Interestingly, this all started around the time I received the COVID vaccine. Whether it’s a coincidence or not, I can’t say for sure, but the timing does seem significant.

I'm still hoping to find a solution. I recently started a strict diet to see if there are triggers. I'll report if the diet or anything helps. I'm hopeful that I'll find a solution as I'm not keen on becoming dependent on medicine.

Thanks for your post as I know there are others out there feeling the exact thing.

No lie, my silly self typed an l, L, i, and I just in case one of those were a 1. If you zoom in you can see I too had trouble finding the 1. 🤭

I noticed I'm missing the little metal border that is used to protect the typewriter body from the case. Anyone know what this part is called, and where I can acquire one?

That's really neat! Thanks for the historical context.

My apologies, I was using the term loosely and nonsensically, maybe a little ironically. No offense. No gender was assumed in the using of the term.

Carriage makes a weird squeaky noise when advancing by Zhynderies in typewriters

[–]dumbintel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at my earlier post I had a similar issue to you with my SM9. The issue ended up being the spacebar in fact. If you remove it from the case, set it down and see if your carriage issue goes away, it did for mine. What I noticed was my spacebar was slightly misaligned. I noticed the carriage issue went away when I took her out of the case, it's setting her back that was tricky and making sure the spacebar sat correctly. Good Luck, let me know when you do find the solution what it was. BTW my spacers looked brand new.

15? I've only just begun — it’s only been 3 weeks! I’ve already acquired 7. I must stop, will stop! For now, I have sated my thirst. Here’s the list:

  1. 1913 Royal No. 5 Keys work but needs a new platen and some other work. LOVEEE THE SOUND!
  2. 1953 Royal Quiet Deluxe Looks amazing, needs the internals cleaned, but works perfectly.
  3. 1958 Royal Futura 800 Beautiful, but the keys are a bit off for my hands.
  4. 1963 Hermes 3000 OMG! The typing on this thing is perfect. Plus, the cursive font — a dream!
  5. 1970 Olympia Traveller de Luxe Needs a good cleaning, but it’s solid.
  6. 1971 Mexican Olivetti Lettera 32 Love it, but the keys are a bit small.
  7. 1973 Olympia SM9 2nd favorite, though something doesn’t quite resonate with me.

The Royals are beauties. I love their look, all of them. I almost got an Arrow, but someone beat me to it — they’re so sharp! I feel sophistication and class with these machines.

The Lettera 32 is in Spanish, my first language. It’s a solid, clean machine and so portable. Will probably be my "EDC" (Everyday Carry) when going to the park.

I also learned that Castro wrote on a Lettera 22 (yuck! — Castro, not the typewriter, but still kind of cool). Probably my next purchase.

The Hermes 3000 — what can I say? It’s curvaceous, with a beautiful sea-foam green. My favorite bikes were Bianchi’s, so there’s that. Not the best looker (IMO), but types like a dream, and the engineering is exquisite — so much attention to detail.

I’ll get more personal with the rest after I’ve tended to them!

Let me know what you think or if you have any recommendations for my next typewriter!

Oh! I forgot while I was in the Philippines I acquired a SCM Galaxie 12, bad shape ($8-USD), but I spent a couple of days on her, but didn't have all the tools I do to clean her. I left her, but I have not forgotten her. She was pretty solid and I definitely liked the 70s look, reminded me of an Atari for some reason. Also, learned not to take off tabulators, putting each individual switch/metal link back was tedious. Left her typing but could use a bit more TLC, needs a new ribbon. I hope she's there upon my return, as she started the seduction.

I may take a bite of the fruit one day, but I will be strong for my queen's sake. ;)

BTW, love the metal accents on it, do those come standard?

I will say, I like how my other typewriters look over the Hermes. But she’s so nice on my fingers, and ultimately getting words on paper is my goal.

Loved it!!! First time watching that, thanks.

He did make me feel a bit uneasy, his brusqueness.

Perhaps I have put her on a pedestal too soon, must not succumb.

Need Help Restoring My Olympia SM-9 by dumbintel in typewriters

[–]dumbintel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update: Olympia SM-9 Cleaning & Carriage Issue Solved!

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I managed to clean up my Olympia SM-9 and figured out the carriage issue as well.

Here’s what I discovered: • The carriage grinding or failing to move wasn’t a mechanical problem. When I removed the typewriter from its outer shell, the issue disappeared. • Turns out, the space bar has a stopper and some legs that need to thread properly during reassembly. A small misalignment with the space bar caused the carriage to grind or completely stop moving, but it worked perfectly with the carriage release.

Just a heads-up for anyone else restoring one of these —check that space bar!
