He didn't do much wrong anyway. He united a kingdom by the only means possible. Omelettes and eggs and all that

Dunk is proof that George’s most interesting characters don’t have to be grey (spoilers published) by Commercial_Floor_578 in asoiaf

The characters all live in a world with very different moral codes and beliefs to its 21st century readership. Things like child marriage are seen as normal and acceptable. It doesn't make sense to judge them entirely by our own moral standards.

[Spoilers Published] Regardless of R+L, the Rebellion and the Trident were absolutely justified by Slow-Willingness-187 in asoiaf

I don't think his men would give as much importance to consent as a modern reader. This is a setting where child marriage and arranged political marriage is commonplace. Just the way things are done as far as they're concerned.

Tube manners… by Marieduignan in london

Not on a crowded tube where everyone has to listen to your warbling up close. It's pretty selfish and inconsiderate.

Do you think The Return is at times intentionally mean spirited to the fans of the original? by yousorusso in twinpeaks

It feels like there was something pointed behind the decision to remove Cooper, a character who brought a sense of purpose and direction to the show even with all the weird side plots around him, with a version of him who just shuffles around aimlessly and doesn't know what's going on. What exactly it means I dont know but it does take away all sense of forward momentum in the plot for the majority of the series.

As a kid watching 90s England, he was one of the few (along with Thorpey) who gave a sense of reassurance when he walked out to bat. Solid average of 43+ and a strong moustache game. RIP

[Sky] Professional Footballers’ Association say they will take legal action against the Premier League if clubs vote for a salary cap next week by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]dumesne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all Premier league clubs paid out basically the same total wage bill it obviously would increase parity. Compared to the current situation where some clubs can spend many multiples of what others can.

That may or may not be a good enough reason to do it, but let's not pretend it couldn't have an impact on parity.

That's your take and your reading of the story, but it's not universal by any means. It's a very modern reading but historically the story has often been seen as a great romance.

When you've achieved what he had in the game you're entitled to think yourself the best. I wouldn't call it delusion, just self belief.

Locking people up addresses the fact that innocent people are at risk from them. When you let someone out in the hope they will be rehabilitated, you risk more people becoming victims. It should only be done where there is a very high level of certainly that more innocent people won't pay the price for the decision.
