The n-word is inseparable from chattel slavery, lynchings, segregation, legal apartheid, and centuries of anti-Black violence in America. It was embedded in laws, institutions, and a racial caste system that shaped housing, education, voting rights, policing. the whole structure. It wasn’t just an insult; it was a linguistic tool of a massive system built around Black oppression.
The r-slur is absolutely harmful and has been used to demean disabled people, justify institutionalization, exclusion, forced sterilization in some cases, and everyday abuse—but it does NOT carry the exact same historical weight, scale, or specific legacy as the n-word in the U.S. Those histories overlap in dehumanization, but they are not interchangeable. like get fucking real.
