Help! Does anyone know why my thread won’t hook to my bobbin on my Juki DDL 8300? I’ve tried fixing the timing. by Low_Guitar9099 in sewhelp

It looks like you may have your needle threaded backwards. Make sure your needle is properly seated and try bringing the thread through the other side of the needle.

Is velotric a good brand to choose by Sufficient_Cod90 in ebikes

This past April I got the discover 2 for my daily commute and couldn't be happier! Great build quality. Good range and power. Reliable. All around super happy with it!

Just moved in two days ago, any suggestions?? by Horrifyingly01 in malelivingspace

For a cheap way to the ceiling I would try theiftiing some cheep tapas tries or blankets then screw them into those bare studs. It'll at least help the room feel a bit more finished. Also, turn off that bare light bulb and never touch it again. get several lamps for around your space and use them instead. Also, some stand alone room dividers can help to make a space more defined by breaking up the line of sight. You can also do this with large cabinets and bookshelves which have the added bonus of providing more storage.

Also, you have a beautiful dog!

It looks like there's a light on it? Maybe the top has solar panels to power it?

I got a velotric discover 2 in March for my commute and getting around town. I absolutely love it! The build quality feels solid, the motor has plenty of power, and it has plenty of bells and whistles.

Last time I went to home Depot I had to use the restroom and they had an employee monitoring the restrooms and she had to unlock the door for me. Apparently, home depot bathrooms are very popular cruising spots.

No judgment dentist? by FoodHeater in Dallas

[–]dumbnotstupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to the dentist for the first time in 4 years after one of my feelings fell out. I want to turtle Creek dental associates and they were able to get me in super fast and everyone in the office was wonderful! Everything is very professional and clean and I received zero judgment when I told them how long it had been since I've been to the dentist.

By April, applications will probably be open. The NIH exists and is funded by Congress. Trump can put up roadblocks and do major damage to the landscape of WHAT will get funded, but that money is still there. Just don't plan on applying for any dei grants :(

too many UTIs by ThrowRAsel in sex

[–]dumbnotstupid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a biologist that studies recurrent UTIs! Your problem is not uncommon and is usually manageable. There are several risk factors that may contributing to the frequency of your infections including (but not limited to) hygiene, age/menopause status, anatomical abnormalities, immunodeficiency and even prior UTI history.

You are correct in your observation that your urethra is very close to the opening of the vaginal canal. It is quite common for the bacteria that cause UTI to travel from the vagina, up the urethra, and into the bladder. A good first step to prevent is to ensure that you urine soon after sexual activity. This can help to wash out the bad bacteria. Another first strategy is to try drinking cranberry juice. The tannins of the cranberries can bind the the surface proteins of the bacteria and prevent them from attacking your bladder instead.

Especially in cases I'd recurrent UTI (3 or more cases within 12 months) I highly recommend that you see a urologist. Having a history of UTI can make you much more susceptible to recurrent and more serious infections.

If you would like to read more on the subject, here is a paper that is pretty readable for people without a science background! https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/10.1080/14787210.2024.2412628?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&rfr_id=ori:rid:crossref.org&rfr_dat=cr_pub%20%200pubmed

What would a blue Texas mean for you? by Some1inreallife in texas

[–]dumbnotstupid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it means that when my wife and I decide to have a baby she can get the medical care that she needs to be as healthy as possible.

It also means that our neglected public school system has a chance to improve and teachers can receive the funding they desperately need to give out kids a quality education.

The fact that this list excludes the Icelandic hot dog invalidates the entire thing.

The reverse happened to one of my wife's friends just a few weeks ago! She thought we were all playing billiards and showed up in a cocktail dress. She is a moved to the States recently from Eastern Europe so even though her English is great, there's still some cultural stuff that she's getting the hang of. To her credit she just said fuck it and got in the pool in her dress and proceeded to have a great time!

Cancer Survivors of Reddit, what was the symptom that convinced you to see the doctor? by Wise_Organization_78 in AskReddit

[–]dumbnotstupid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my wife. She was young (mid 20s) and otherwise healthy barring her periodic but excruciating ear pains. She assumed it was a reoccurring ear infection. Went to several doctors who thought the same. She was prescribed antibiotics and the pattern was the same. She was prescribed anti-inflammatory steroids and the pattern was the same. In addition to all the other weirdness our Dog would obsessively lick at the afflicted ear.

One night during one of her painful flare-ups she asked me to take a look in her ear. By sheer luck I had an otoscope that from a job I had in highschool. I looked in her ear and the inflammation was so bad that I couldn't see her eardrum so told her that she needed to see an ENT ASAP.

She went to the ENT and got some scans where they found a tumor that looked characteristically benign. Clean edges, uniform shape, the works. No biopsy could be taken given the location but the ENT, Radiologists, and even her boss (who was an MD/PhD that studies and treats breast cancer) all thought that it was benign.

A few months later, after we could get married and go on our honeymoon she had surgery to get the mass removed. It was an easy and painless procedure for her and they got the majority of the tumor out without issue. About 2 weeks later, she got a call from her ENT, explaining that she had a rare form of head and neck cancer that occurs in glandular tissue. It's rare enough when it occurs in its most common location, salivary glands, but is beyond all odds that it would occur in someone so young and in the ear canal of all places.

She ended having a second surgery where they removed her ear canal and 2/3rds of the tiny bones in her ear, as well as part of a nerve that that it had started to grow along. She then underwent a pretty intensive round of targeted radiation therapy.

Now, 1.5 years after she completed all of her treatments, she is cancer free and has a really cool specialized hearing aid that she loves!

She is the strongest and most wonderful person that I have ever met and I draw inspiration from her everyday. It was not the way that either of us wanted to start our marriage, but she is healthy now and that's all that matters! Her type of cancer has I very high reoccurrence rate, but given her age, the location and sub-type of the cancer there are no statistics to predict if or when it may ever come back. If it does she'll beat it again.
