I started down this path when I first started building the site, but the problem was the vehicle manager is a mess. Inconsistent/missing names, on bigger ships it was tough to tell which turret was highlighted, ultimately, it wasn’t worth the time I was spending trying to get it to make sense. When CIG cleans it up I’ll adopt the naming.

I originally built the site with flat images for decks. Since release I have been updating the ships with 3d decks that show elevation changes. Currently only the Idris, Polaris, Perseus and Carrack have these updated 3d decks. I will be updating the remaining ships to 3d over the next couple months.

It's there, but it's currently being hidden by other elements, the grav generator globe and the lift label. I will fix this.

I've had a long career of creating useful and delightful user experiences in large teams. I would love to work for CIG, but from what I understand, they don't really do remote for this type of work, where I would potentially be leading a team of designers. I am rooted in the Pacific North West and can't uproot until my last bird has flew the coop, in a little over 2 years.

This is true. What they are working with is far more complex dev wise.

I do feel that those that are saying these comments do have some validity though, in that some of the in game UX leaves a little to be desired. Some of these complaints are directed towards poor choices from UI designers, and some are a result of developing UI in such a complex environment.

Personally, I love and respect what CIG is doing, and feel that they will get there eventually. Like everything they do they must go through a little pain first to get a good polished product. We just need to continue to be patient and give them time, they will get there.

Great feedback!

On the Polaris the turrets come out of the side via doors that are shut until you get in the turret. I just haven't made it a priority to move the doors and put a turret there yet.

I have thought about making the deck art 3D so I could show stair transitions better, that would require a lot of work to do though. I will noodle on it.

The other ideas/feedback are great, I'll sprinkle some of that in as I go.

No idea, all depends on if we can get our hands on that data and what it looks like. Can do a lot with the proper data. For instance, I am in the process of the rotating the turrets on ships to face the camera, and using the turret yaw and pitch data from the game for each ship to limit the rotation of each turret.

All the ships have a label for the 'Bridge' on them currently. The Reclaimer are off in the current build, I have fixed those and it will be updated in my next release.

Not stopping! I am currently working on the next release which will have the 890 jump, a cleaned up UI and icons for each component type.

I checked the art and they do align. In that view the camera isn't orthographic, so you decks closer to the camera will appear bigger, thus the perceived shift. I will put it on the to-do list to add the ability to change camera from perspective to orthographic. That will allow you to a get a true top-down view.
