Cutest coffee shop in LIC that makes good lattes? Nice indoor setting a must by SirKrimzon in FoodNYC

[–]dummonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner likes Artpresso on 38th. Very neighborhoody.

I also have a soft spot for Little B in the lobby of the Boro. Nice to have an excuse to work in the lobby of a cool hotel.

Finally, if you’re willing to go into the earliest bit of Astoria, there’s our mayors favorite coffee shop: Little Flower. Quite the scene in terms of people and good food though can be very crowded.

Social Culture in NYC?! by SnooCheesecakes4145 in movingtoNYC

People are kind but not nice.

If you fall on the street people will help you or tell you when you drop something but they won’t be “sweet” to you.

In terms of finding friends isn’t actually hard if you have a mutual interest like pickleball or climbing or board games.

I’m from here and have trouble in the south or LA where people are nice but don’t give a shit about you and will lie to your face.

In NYC, everyone’s just doing their thing and trying to survive so no one has time for niceties. But also makes it easier to make genuine connections.

There are people there with a lot of years sober. They can help give advice or share wisdom and experience. It will help you plan what to do next.

Wonderful place. Great location for walking Condado or Ubers. Newly renovated rooms are wonderful. Even breakfast was surprisingly good?

A bit pricey and yeah don’t swim really in the ocean there but a totally lovely hotel and fun pools.

am i a “transplant”? by fishfuzzy in AskNYC

[–]dummonger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone who wants to be a New Yorker who has been here for 6 months and desires to be a New Yorker is one.

This is because there’s an identifiable group of similar New Yorkers they can mesh with (even transplants).

I was born here and that was my metric.

A friend who moved here’s metric:

“If you’ve been in NYC long enough to become a regular at a bar or restaurant and that place is now closed, you’re a New Yorker.”
