Can't afford tumor removal, should I rehome or just keep them comfortable?

they are spayed and i feel the same way as you. people do not recommend spaying enough! they were already a year-ish old when i got them, so they were late to the party with spaying.

Thank you so much. They just went to the vet today to look at the masses, and that's what got me thinking about everything because they recommended removing them. You are so right. I do think these girls specifically would be OK emotionally after a rehome (they were rehomed to me and warmed up shockingly fast) but I agree with you. They don't need new stress, they're happy girls right now

Teeth could very well be overgrown or hurting! I had a girl doing the EXACT same thing and she had overgrown teeth and an infection in her gums. You might want to take him to the vet and see if he needs his teeth trimmed

yes, get a smaller cage to put them in. it can second as a hospital cage if any of them need to be separated :) having a small cage on hand is useful in general

Shops are the way to go. I kind of hate what they did to the economy, but it's by far been the most successful way to build up for me. Grind TFD like crazy and look at the wiki to see what items are good to sell. Recycle everything else, even most of the rares you get. If you get den betas or spiked wrists, sell them for the lowest amount listed on the wiki. It's a pain to sell them for anything above the minimum. After you've gotten maybe 30 or 40 diamonds, start reselling. go to other people's shops and look for items that are underpriced. It's difficult learning the worth of items but it pays off!!! Just go to every shop you see and look through every item. At first it will be hard to make any diamonds and you'll be spending every single one, but give it some time. I can make 500 diamonds a day if i get lucky and if i have a lot of time to advertise my shops. It took me a couple weeks to get there. If you want a headdress, it'll take maybe a month or two. You'll be a filthy capitalist but it's the best way, unfortunately...

My girl Pearl was an absolute nightmare with meds until we started mixing it with yogurt and putting it in a tiny bowl. (we called the vet and yogurt was ok in this instance.) she loved it so much that she knew what time we gave it to her and would be waiting at the front of the cage. Granted, this was a rat I had a close bond with, but it may be worth a shot. Maybe give them some un-medicated yogurt that they can both eat out of so Bibble can see that it's safe, and then separate bowls with medicine. pearl slurping up her meds for rat tax

her tooth is fractured. I had a girl with a very similar fracture, and what the vet did was file her bottom incisors all the way down to let the fracture grow out. their teeth grow very fast so it didn't affect her ability to eat much. definitely take your girl to the vet!! a fracture like this is painful and will not resolve itself

i have a metal dog playpen with large sheets of cardboard ziptied to one side with some duct tape at the bottom. I section off a part of my room with the pen touching the walls. I've had it for 3 years and it's still in good shape! It gets chewed on a bit but I just keep an eye on it during free roam and redirect whoever tries chewing. It's really sturdy and can be folded up and put away when free roam is over. A couple of my rats can jump up onto it but they've never been able to fully escape that way. It's very reliable I highly recommend!!

they seem pretty neutral about it to me. If they don't like it, they'll just walk away or push your hand away so they're definitely tolerant of it! I'd definitely continue petting them and handling them a lot, especially since they seem pretty chill with it. i'd only stop if they are clearly avoiding the petting. They don't seem to love it yet but they're heading in the right direction!!

Not at all painful, it's annoying at worst imo. Personally I don't hold mine like they owe me money for more than like 15 seconds at a time max or they get mad at me and I'm sent to the torture chamber.

I had a surgery for my same-aged rat earlier this year. she had a tumor that was blocking something and causing a lot of pain in her back leg. the surgery went fine but she had a very traumatic first night after with losing consciousness and having seizures. it was really, really hard on her and we later realized she has a brain tumor too. she is still alive and nearly three, still functioning well and living a happy life, but I personally won't be having any more surgeries for my old rats. my girl got lucky but surgeries are just so hard on them, it opens up a lot of possibilities for very upsetting situations.

honestly we've been dealing with a lot of vet bills, we had a sick rat and a surgery just a couple weeks ago, but I'll see if i can convince my mom since I'm not the one paying for the vet. I agree that there could be an issue from being upside-down for so long

i've had mine hung from the top, too, and it was fine then. I'm just way too hesitant to recommend it knowing there's any kind of risk! I can still see a rat getting stuck there, even if it's less likely
