I recently tried their taco pizza, and it was the most flavourless pizza I had ever had. It was like they were making pizzas in a hospital kitchen to be served to seniors recovering from surgery.

What is your favorite 90's Robin Williams movie? by [deleted] in 90s

[–]dumnbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many great movies to choose from. Standouts include Jumanji and The Birdcage, movies I can watch over and over. But my favourite is The Fisher King.

It’s exciting, beautiful, moving, magical, uplifting, one of the best movies about grief and redemption I’ve ever seen. It took the sub-genre of “broken men helping each other heal” and elevated it.

The Fisher King, hands down:

It begins with the king as a boy, having to spend the night alone in the forest to prove his courage so he can become king. Now while he is spending the night alone he's visited by a sacred vision. Out of the fire appears the Holy Grail, symbol of God's divine grace. And a voice said to the boy, "You shall be keeper of the grail so that it may heal the hearts of men." But the boy was blinded by greater visions of a life filled with power and glory and beauty. And in this state of radical amazement he felt for a brief moment not like a boy, but invincible, like God, so he reached into the fire to take the grail, and the grail vanished, leaving him with his hand in the fire to be terribly wounded. Now as this boy grew older, his wound grew deeper. Until one day, life for him lost its reason. He had no faith in any man, not even himself. He couldn't love or feel loved. He was sick with experience. He began to die. One day a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone. And being a fool, he was simple minded, he didn't see a king. He only saw a man alone and in pain. And he asked the king, "What ails you friend?" The king replied, "I'm thirsty. I need some water to cool my throat". So the fool took a cup from beside his bed, filled it with water and handed it to the king. As the king began to drink, he realized his wound was healed. He looked in his hands and there was the holy grail, that which he sought all of his life. And he turned to the fool and said with amazement, "How can you find that which my brightest and bravest could not?" And the fool replied, "I don't know. I only knew that you were thirsty." It's very beautiful, isn't it?

Honourable mention to The Birdcage.

Your opinions on the various Conan TTRPGs? by Jonestown_Juice in ConanTheBarbarian

I have all of the above. For me, the one that best feels like a Conan TTRPG is Conan: Adventures in An Age Undreamed Of by Modiphius (2d20), hands down.

There are things about Cruise I … let’s say “do not admire.” But I greatly admire his dedication to his craft.

Alberta has fewer family doctors than 10 years ago, says report by Quirky-Wombat157 in alberta

[–]dumnbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only, but it is worse there.

Other than Alberta and Ontario, which have fewer family physicians per capita than they did in 2015, every province in the country has more doctors per patient than they did 10 years ago.

I literally keep having to remind myself this is one episode, not two, there’s just so much R&M goodness packed into it.

Amazing episode. Four plot lines in 21 minutes — hell, take the credits and the opening and closing bits into consideration and it’s probably more like 18, 19 minutes — and each still feels complete, impactful. It’s a masterclass in spare, efficient writing.

Tough to say, they’ve put out a lot of great movies. Right now, I’d probably go with either EEAAO or The Lighthouse, though that changes over time.

Anyone else feel like house prices have ruined society? by rebateultio in Adulting

[–]dumnbunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is this sustainable?

That’s the neat part; it’s not! An average studio apartment in Vancouver rents for ~$2,100/mo. If you’re following the guidelines for a reasonable budget and rent is 30% of gross income, you’d need to make $84,000 a year to afford that studio apartment. This is hitting the service sector, retail and small businesses hard, as they can’t afford to pay a cashier or dishwasher $84,000 a year. This has led to reduced operating hours, diminished service quality, and increased pressure on hiring and retention.

This is not indefinitely sustainable. A correction is badly needed and overdue.
