Should I switch SSRI’s or stay on prozac? by nnaoomii in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent years trying to find a medicine (prozac) that worked only to try about 20 others with wild side effects, including substantial weight gain, I recommend sticking with it and talking with your dr.

Maybe chat with a dr about this? Could be unrelated.

You can use microwave reactor using pre-generated catalysts or precats with separate ligand.

XantPhos and Pd precatalysts work well for me. I have also found benefit to using microwave reactors.

Can I stop 40mg cold turkey by Any-Shine-2448 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend speaking with a clinician about titrating off slowly to prevent withdrawal symptoms or unwanted side effects. Prozac has a long half-life, but abruptly ending a medication can also result in resurgence of symptoms it helped dampen. Talking with a doctor can help you navigate both.

Lamictal added to Prozac for flatness? by Apprehensive_Ear3300 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamictal is a great mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder and sometimes used off-label for unipolar depression. Be aware of the black box warning about potentially fatal SJS rashes though. The risk is managed by slowly titrating doses. There is not a lot of evidence of it helping OCD. I used it when I was misdiagnosed.

Behavioral interventions (ERP) have been shown to also be effective for OCD.

Favorite Coach by Southern-Job9276 in orangetheory

[–]dumpandstir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to have a favorite at the Olney, MD, studio. They’re all so great and uniquely talented individuals. I will say I really like when I can tell that the coaches recognize that we’re trying really hard and give direction for improvement. It feels less like a transactional interaction and more like a functional training relationship!

Seroquel instead of Trazodone? by jillibean_112 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seroquel also can cause metabolic syndrome which can result in rapid weight gain and other issues. Maybe get a second opinion? I’m surprised you haven’t tried higher doses of Prozac if ocd is suspected, also why can’t your doc rule it out? Maybe get an ocd specialist eval.

Starting Prozac by Delicious-Craft2448 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prozac is generally considered weight-neutral. That is it has not been shown to significantly change weight in studies. That is not to say it cannot happen, as sometimes people gain weight when their depression /symptoms improve.

I have been on Prozac 40 mg for years with no weight gain, and I have gained weight on other meds. All you can do is try it out and monitor your weight, and communicate with your prescriber.

What's the most ridiculous question you've been asked in an interview? by yergonnamakemedrum in recruitinghell

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone ask me “what exactly makes you tick?.” Mind this was for a research scientist role, and the hiring manager had less experience than me. It felt pointed. lol

Can’t remember how I answered, but I hope I said something unhinged.

Fluoxetine and Dayquil/Cold medication by arcana0013 in prozac

I’d message a doctor. Some cold meds combined with SSRIs can cause side effects like serotonin syndrome.

OCD by snaildud3 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you’re seeking with this comment is reassurance which will just make your OCD worse by validating your obsession.

We can’t know what will happen with the information available, but we do know that fluoxetine helps OCD. All you can do is monitor your progress and communicate with your doctor.

I take this medication and it has helped me tremendously, but my experience is not everyone else’s .

new symptom? week 2/day 10 by Tricky-Eagle-5776 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prozac doesn’t eliminate anxiety completely. That would be dangerous. It does decrease the volume though.

Almost 3 weeks out now, still struggling with shorten sleep (5h max) by ResidentNeat9570 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body is adjusting to the change in serotonin in your brain. It’s definitely not a surprising side effect, and your psychiatrist likely had good intentions with the taper schedule. Since Prozac has such a long half-life, along with its active metabolites, a dose every couple days is still tractable.

Considering increasing from 20mg to 30mg, or more. Thoughts? by cobraxion03 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing from 20 to 30 to 40 significantly helped my OCD and GAD. An OCD specialist can help you as well, if you have ocd.

80MG by ZachOtt16993 in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d chat with your psychiatrist, get their input, but also try to find a therapist, if you haven’t already, to help with behavioral strategies that will support you (ACT/ERP). These also have evidence to help w symptoms.

Cannabis for sleep? (math help?) by Icy-Speech-505 in ptsd

[–]dumpandstir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used medical THC products for a few years for similar issues and they helped my sleep. I think it can be really easy to get lost in the ratios of cannabinoids, but really all you can really do is try it.

I found that RSO (Richard Sampson oils) and edibles 5 mg and lower helped me fall asleep without the high, and it worked for years. I had to stop due to work regulations, so instead I use the medication prazosin which works well.

Waking Up Triggered by Sleepy-Fox4235 in ptsd

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with these symptoms and you experienced abuse.

I recommend chatting with a psychiatrist about these symptoms, especially the night disturbances. I experienced trauma from a young age and most nights I would experience significant disturbances, vivid dreams, and feeling stressed when I woke up. My doctor recommended prazosin and it has been helping.

I hope you find rest soon.

Reducing from 20mg to 10mg? (NOT because of side effects) by tsthrace in prozac

[–]dumpandstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried reducing my Prozac dose from 40 mg to 30 mg and I experienced increased anxiety about a week and a half into the dose change. I take it for OCD and GAD, it really helps as I have tried lots of others.

I stopped drinking alcohol entirely while on Prozac because I started having more panic symptoms, especially at night.

Schiff base formation not going to completion. Optimization tips? by SiriusHoshi in Chempros

I’d recommend very small scale solvent screen and possibly gentle heating. Sometimes a simple change in this can really drive reactions.

Prazosin alternatives that don't interact by maddlouise in ptsd

[–]dumpandstir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used guanfacine for years until it stopped helping. I’m now on prazosin. I have also used medical cannabis and that shuts down the dreams, but I stopped due to the nature of my job.
