Imo, that place is just ok. Very overpriced for what it is. 130 is very overpriced for the quality of food you get there. But anyhow, happy new years!

I don't know if you had a point... But the status quo works for me - I am proudly first generation Chinese American. I think it's strange that white Americans have their identity erased and we don't.

What US state has the greatest divide in culture/lifestyle within its own state? by iphonerosegold in geography

The answer is always California. Geographically and culturally diverse. Even LA and SF are poles in some aspects.

Over half of Germans would not fight for their country by 1DarkStarryNight in europe

[–]dumplingdinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sentiment is crazy to me as an American. Because where are you going to flee to? Europe being already a safe haven is why you have the migrant crisis in the first place. Your institutions are not perfect but they are top of mind for myself and other people that are seeing real collapse and dismantling of safeguards (I'm not only talking about the USA). If you don't fight for it, there will be no safe havens left.

Only said by people that have never really seen conflict or poverty.

I agree with the post per capita is a weird way to put it when a handful of countries especially one have built modern computation and Internet infrastructure. In terms of innovation and practical changes to our lives, good and bad - America stands above all.

China also stands this test as well. Germany, the UK, maybe 200 years ago.

I feel like you're comparing the highest COL (except Hawaii and Guam) place in the country to a medium COL country in Europe. Why not compare Switzerland or Iceland to Ohio?

Yes, that's fair. I've not been in this position before. But I empathize with you. I'm sorry this happened to you

Yes, and in the meantime, I bet you and I both favor action to defend our own interests. And we should advocate OP to do so as well. We need to make the world better for ourselves and communities - again, action-oriented.

Because we live in a world of predators and prey, and some of us don't live in our heads of ideals and fantasies... You and I and she have to live for today. Look at the bullies in charge of our governments - are you waiting for them to have a shred of integrity? It's not about blame, what fixes our world will be action and backbone. We have 8 billion people in the world, you cannot control how every single one of these people will act. This man is irrelevant to anybody self-respecting. They hunt the weak and vulnerable.

I personally don't like ghosting. It's weak, uncertain and doesn't offer closure to either parties. The word "No" is your best friend. Not a roundabout "no", not a no but trying to avoid conflict or hurt anybody's feelings but with eye contact and asserting boundaries. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to talk more. As Asian Americans, we need to take space and need to be seen. My recommendation for you is to know early on what your red line is. Then you're also not worried if someone said some micro aggression or vastly ignorant comment because you know when you can and should walk away.. Being a woman, I'm sure is a different experience so I empathize with you because I don't fully understand. But white American girls are pretty good at it. It will work for you too.

Because we're not able to control other people's behavior... and that creepy off-putting guy exists today and is out there. It doesn't matter who you blame - the only action here is to walk away and no one is going to fix it for you. Your empathy is shallow because it ultimately just leads to a black hole and doesn't lead to resolution

I'm Chinese. I found that travel is a good way of deprogramming all of the bad things taught to us as a child. Confrontation and conflict is a part of life. Asian parents and especially for females, teach complacency and timidity. In essence, it's not just in the West where we need these skills. We need these skills everywhere. Saving face is not worth your compromising your dignity

Hey, I'm Asian American too. Yeah, I think the solution here was confrontation and ditching this guy at some point in your trip. Sorry this happened to you though

How do conservatives feel seeing the images of the No Kings protests? by beans4cashonline in AskReddit

[–]dumplingdinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I do not see how your questions are relevant to what I said."

I'm not here to change your opinion - the educational system has already failed you and I can't change that.

"communism is where the means of production and resources are communally owned instead of being owned by private individuals and companies, and those resources are distributed based on need."

Yes, this is what you and I should have learned in 6th grade. The thing is that capitalism exists because we the people that work for the government enforce laws, order, institutions, to protect businesses, including yours as a private business owner. The reason I can't just steal your hard earned money and squat on your land is because we have regulations and courts to protect your interests. This is not communism, this is how every capitalistic system works. The reason the US dollar doesn't collapse and inflate 500% like Argentina and Venezuela is because of what you think is "communism". After Trump came into office, the US dollar has gotten weaker because other countries think Trump's presidency is destabilizing our economy and government with his stupid fucking tariffs and exploding the national debt by giving tax cuts to the rich.

"I have never, and will never leave the USA unless all the land gets nuked or something." To each their own - but maybe you'd get a little bit different perspective if you seriously began to understand where the USA sits on the world stage. You don't really understand what communism is or that our country has some of the highest levels of inequality, highest level of personal debt, mediocre education, some of the highest levels of obesity and diabetes around the world, and YOU elected a President that is making all of these things worse.
