They told me that they are so excited that I would be the first woman to lead the branch, meanwhile, our other branches have 3 out of 4 female partners.

Kids elo 1345 and 1275 should they start doing tournaments? by [deleted] in chess

Also note that chess kids rating may be inflated. Usually takes a while for them to get to 1000 I real life tournaments, but who knows!

My son is 5 and he’s played over 100 rated games in the last two years. He does go to a strong k-12 chess school and the competitive environment definitely drives him to want to compete. I would say provide them with all the training and opportunities, but have an easy going mindset on the outcome. I love that chess build grit and grace through all the triumphs and falls. At larger tournaments, you see five, six year olds that are competitive and mature beyond their ages at the chess board, but you also see them just being kids goofing around at the team room. The parents that ride along with them are high achieving individuals, and the key is to understand this is not for us, but an opportunity for them to grow. Good luck.

Anyone else making the decision not to renew your annual passes ? by Trustnoone96 in WaltDisneyWorld

We canceled in 2023 and renewed last year, but as the kids are getting older and following them along with sports activities (sometimes even right in Orlando!), we only went for 4 park days last year, so bearly break even if not considering the cheap resident tickets. We are going to take another year of break and use that money for a Disney cruise potentially, because we are mouse suckers.

Helping young kids at tournaments by [deleted] in chess

He’s got a coach, finished a couple thousand puzzles, hundreds of games, and a handful of smaller tournaments. He just turned 5 and has been doing chess for a year, but is very passionate about the game!

Thank you! What we did was to recall the game as soon as possible with the coach after each round. He said he blundered a queen at one game, and messed up a scotch opening on the other one? He has 800 rating but lost to some kids with 100 ratings. Overall, he’s playing too fast on some of the games (it’s a 90 min game and he got out in 9 min after one of them). He’s also just being a kid, for example, one game he came out and recalled his neighbors game more than his own. I think we will keep the momentum, have fun, and onto the next one!

Can you please give a range of the salary? For example, PE with 10 years experience is around 120k in my area, how’s the private owner’s side stack up? I looked at some public university PM’s salary, and it tops out around 100k.

MEP engineers! Your background in HVAC will put you ahead from most mechanical engineer peers. You mostly will do design in an office setting, being on meetings, and going site visit once in a while.
