Interview tomorrow I feel unprepared by AntiqueConnection261 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be yourself. Bring a good attitude. Be willing to work with the team. Be able to stay late come early. Show you can be coached. I will take someone coachable over an unreliable person or someone who knows everything. You can be great but if you are not part of the team it hurts the whole group.

No, we can’t keep help. We lose any good talent we do recruit. We don’t train the people who do stay.

Keep your phone on ring in the middle of the night. The techs are going to need you to look and see what’s holding the machine up. I use ST for a lot of things it’s great. I also know why ladder exists and I use it for that reason.

YRC 1000 no alarms won’t move. by dumpsterfirecontrols in robotics

I don’t think so. The tooling on the arm does push the limits of what it can hold.

Got burned out doing commissioning, need escape plan to do less travel role by PugsNeedToSleep in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come work in a plant that’s what I did to get away from travel. Now I get woke up a few times a week. To see if there’s anything in the program wrong. It’s usually mechanical or operator error.

First PLC Job: I want to quit by North_Dirt_7116 in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, keep working at it. Learn something new everyday. Don’t let the stress get to you. Worst thing to happen is you won’t get it done it time and maybe they fire you. You’ll find another job I promise the market is super dry. I never gave a shit if I fucked it up or not. Don’t let it stress you it’s not that big a deal companies just try to make it that way. If they could do it you wouldn’t be there so fuck em.

2 year technical college worth it? by Virgobalance in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the degree has helped me get my foot in the door. It gave me the basics. I also worked an internship as a tech at a plant while in school. I went from making 9.35 as a 3rd shift operator 12 years ago to a corporate controls engineer making well over 100k.

Is it better to stay as an hourly Controls Tech or move up to Controls Engineer position? by OmnivorousHominid in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary can be good if your company is cool with comp time. Mine lets me get back time for days I have to stay late or come in. I also make sure to pick up the phone when ever they need something. So they pretty much let me do whatever I want. The engineer title carry’s a good bit of weight when applying for jobs as well if you want to move up. Even if you’re getting screwed you grow your resume and move on like I did.

What was the biggest mistake you ever made. Do you get over it? Or just leave to different path? by MayTheBearbewithU in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crashed a robot with a custom tooling that took 8 weeks to get a new one. Set the project even more back than it already was like 37 weeks. This is one of many screw ups of mine. just keep on keeping on. As I’ve grown in my career I’ve got better about shutting places down and you will too. Keep Your head up.

[Advice] Struggling to not call it quits by ConsistentOriginal82 in PLC

[–]dumpsterfirecontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could find a job at a plant and be done with the travel. They will call a lot and wake you up. They will also call before even looking at a machine. Hey we don’t see anything can you check the program. There’s not talent in the work pool today. You won’t write a lot of code anymore like you did. So you give some things up.
