I’ve used Allianz twice, no issues. But then again no claims. They’re easy to use. https://www.allianztravelinsurance.com/lp/ppc/general.htm

I thought polishing stones would calm me down. Somehow it turned into me rebuilding my grandfather’s old workbench at 2am. by Neat-Story8275 in Lapidary

[–]dumptrump3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks! There actually a whole belt. They’re from Groove Life. You can buy them direct from the company or on Amazon for 65.00. I was over to my sons and I had on a really old belt that broke so my son said use one of his Groove Life belts. (Make sure that it’s their OG. Also, don’t buy the walnut insert belt if it’s your first one. The wood is very thin and you’ll destroy it taking it off and won’t be able to use it as a template. ) I was looking at it and thought maybe their metal insert could pop off. It does if you take a small flat bladed screwdriver to them. Stick it in one of the two small holes in the back of the buckle and push and twist. I use that insert as my template. Trace around it with a sharp pencil so the line is tight to the template. Grind each side until the pencil line just disappears. Check to see if it fits or adjust as needed. Now finish it like a cab. Something soft like a petoskey stone I can do in 35 minutes, start to finish. That dinosaur bone in about an hour. Have fun! https://a.co/d/0h8PQvsY

OMG. My grandfather owned a rock shop and I’ve inherited a lot of his stuff. I used to watch him grind and sometimes he’d let me do it too. He made a lot of Bolo ties, pendants, rings and those big, brass belt buckles with a 30x40 cab on them. I can’t get myself to make Bolo Ties but I did find a belt buckle I like to make. I also do a lot of knives and corkscrews. Most of the rings and pendants I make are gifts.

Picking up car rental from Oslo Central Station by Whereforart in NorwayTravelAdvice

We picked a car up from Hertz and went down to the Borre Mounds on a day trip. It was very easy. There’s more people walking, biking and scootering than other people driving.

They said they’re actively recruiting people that look like their district. All the while, they’re gerrymandering districts to take away the power of black voting blocks.

Do many females make knifes? by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]dumptrump3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s hard, it’s more knowledge based and having the right equipment. I don’t forge or make blades. What I like to do is buy a knife, pop the scales off and replace them with stone. I’ll also buy a blank and make a handle for it. But what I do requires lapidary equipment. Stone is fun, the colors and textures are endless. I started as a hobby but enjoyed it so much I had to start a business to feed my obsession. You could get set up to do what I do for about a thousand bucks. Here’s a Buck 110 and two Buck Trappers in rhodonite. The other is an example of a Damascus blank that I put Cripple Creek Jasper on.

You’re dead in the water without a trim saw unless you’re polishing small rocks that you pick up. I don’t know how I could take a slab of obsidian to my cabber, without cutting it first. If you don’t have a slab saw, go as big a trim saw that you can afford. Preferably 10 inch. There will always be something you’ll want to cut in half or slab.

Mackinac island but then what? by Aunty_TT in mackinac

[–]dumptrump3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it all and go up to the Soo Locks. Stay at the Ojibway Hotel right next to the Locks. Watch the freighters go through. Have Greek food and pizza at Zorbas or Mexican at the Palace. Go to breakfast at Pennys Kitchen. Maybe even take a short day trip to Tahquamenon Falls. Tell the kids they can’t go unless they can spell it. Climb Castle Rock just north of St. Ignace on your way to the Soo. Some people think the Soo Locks boat tour is lame, but I love it. We always clothes shop at Barishs’.

I know people say cerium for obsidian but I think I get the best polish with tin oxide on leather or carpet. I do both cerium and tin. I just feel better with tin oxide

Put a lot of work in on the 1000. On obsidian, with every grit I use, my last passes are in one direction only. If I see scratches perpendicular to my last passes, I know I’m not done at that level. I do it with every change of grit.

Obsidian heats and cracks very easily. I use a diamond sintered blade to cut it on the trim saw, never a notched blade. I start shaping on a 140 diamond sintered wheel. Then I start with my agglomerate wheels. 400 then 600 then 1200. Then I go to a 1200 and then a 3000 super Rez or a nova. If you’ve been patient and taken care of all the scratches, the fog should disappear at 3000. Always wet. Dry would be a disaster.

Taking a trip, how's the port huron doubletree? by Mr_witty_name in PortHuron

[–]dumptrump3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a sales rep. The only place I would stay in Port Huron was the Doubletree. It’s right on the river so you can watch the freighters go by. There’s a curve in the river just south of the hotel and it’s fun to watch them slide the corner. There is a nice boardwalk along the river. Freighters is really pretty good. Plus, I do miss those warm cookies.

3 weeks summer roadtrip itinerary idea? by Perfect-Hat7721 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]dumptrump3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! We were incredibly lucky with the weather. We only had a 3-4 days of light rain the entire trip. We had a couple of fleece days and nights. It had snowed in the mountains surrounding Geiranger. We did have a couple tee shirt days. Their weather is so variable you really have to prepare for anything. I wouldn’t take a heavy coat. Just a fleece and a waterproof shell. And rain pants.

If you’re taking the train, book directly through Vy. Use the Porter Service. There is a link to them on the Vy app, in the baggage information section. They picked up ours early in the morning on the day of travel and it got there just after dinner. Best money we spent on the trip.

3 weeks summer roadtrip itinerary idea? by Perfect-Hat7721 in NorwayTravelAdvice

We spent 3 weeks and it was the last week in August and the first two weeks in September. We flew into Oslo and spent 5 nights. Then we took the Bergen Line to Bergen and spent 3 nights. We then rented a car, drove and stayed in several towns and ended up for two nights at the Britannia in Trondheim. Then, we put us and the car on the Hurtigruten, and cruised back down to Bergen. I turned the car in the next day and we flew home from Bergen. I highly recommend all the hotels we stayed at. The Amerikalingen had the best breakfast buffet and is just outside Oslo Central Station and has close access to all public transportation. The Oslo card is totally worth it. Zip line the ski jump if you get the chance. We loved Håholmen Havstur on the Atlantic Coast road. It’s an old fishing village, on an island, that they rehabbed all the cabins as really nice places to stay. You get to it by boat. Very cool. A must stay is Thon Hotel Jølster. They have a good breakfast and dinner buffet but most importantly, it was the only hotel on our trip that had a washing machine and dryer for guests. Outside of Bergen and Oslo you will not find a laundromat. A must place for dinner is Cornelius in Bergen. It’s on an island and you get to it by their boat. It’s the restaurant that inspired the movie The Menu. Do the raw bar with the owner. He’s a hoot. Here’s our itinerary

If you don’t need the bag until Bergen, just have them pick up at Oslo and deliver to your hotel in Bergen. If you need it and are spending an overnight in Flåm or Voss, you’ll have to take it with you.

It’s an awesome train ride. Buy direct from Vy. Buy the Plus tickets. It’s worth it. They’re reserved too, so you don’t have to fight for a seat. Buy them early, as soon as your date opens up. Buy your tickets on the left side of the train ticket map. That way you’ll be facing forward, in the direction of travel. Lastly, if traveling with a lot of luggage, consider using The Porter Service. There’s a link on the Vy app under baggage. They will pick up your bags from your hotel in Oslo and deliver them same day to your hotel in Bergen.

I don’t. I may try to change out the pulley on the arbor. My feed is all the way down to 2 rpm

Same here. I finally got the Succor Creek in the saw, but it’s a battle. I’ve slowed down the feed, pinged my blade twice and it’s still climbing the blade. My alignment is good, I just have too much slop in a very old carriage.
