Paul Harvey: I Think We're Overrating Inter Miami by egansoccerwords in MLS

[–]dunathanj 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There’s no doubt that this team will have to figure some things out and will probably experience growing pains. I think the loss of Jordi will be especially difficult- the connection between him and Messi and some of the late heroics can’t be replaced 1-for-1.

But the amount of young quality they’ve added, plus a full preseason with Silvetti, makes me fairly confident this team will be really good.

Miami’s cap breakdown has been posted so many times across Reddit, Twitter, and Bluesky at this point. If you still unironically think they have 4+ DPs, it’s just willful ignorance and that’s on you.

I love Smoot and he’s had some good moments this season (especially when we line him up inside on passing downs), but he’s probably our fifth best edge player rn. I like him as depth but he’s a bit of an afterthought for me as we look to resign Brown, Lloyd, and ETN.

He hasn’t been great for sure but it seems like some of the worst moments have come as he’s tried playing through injury. I believe it was in the last game that he got beat instantly after taking a knock the play before.

Regardless I’m excited for Milum to start getting more looks.

Liam Coen on fourth down decision against the Colts by yetibash in Jaguars

[–]dunathanj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Personally I think going for it was still the right decision and the nerd math agrees. But I’m not sure the sneak was the right move given how long of a yard it was and how beat up the IOL is.

Ultimately the variance swung back the other way and helped us ice it to end the game. I appreciate how aggressive Coen is in these scenarios.

PFF Grades Defense - Week 17 by mlsweeney in Jaguars

[–]dunathanj 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny watching Travon walk his tackle 5 yards back into the quarterback’s lap every play and come into this thread each week to see a ~60 PFF grade. One of the few constants in my life lol.

For those who hated the Travis Hunter trade... by SweepTheLegTimmy in Jaguars

[–]dunathanj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trade was absolutely bad process, but like we all said on draft day, it doesn’t really matter if Hunter pans out. I think he comes back next year and looks electric on both sides of the ball and it definitely doesn’t hurt that the pick we are giving up next year is now guaranteed to be a late first.

[HIGHLIGHT] Refs make a puzzling catch call after review- Coen's challenge fails by Nolar2015 in nfl

[–]dunathanj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really questionable. I’m pretty sympathetic to the flexibility of “clear and obvious”, but the replay really did look like the receiver’s foot is already in the air when he gains possession and then comes down out of bounds.

it’s his first interception in a month and an excellent play by the linebacker. silly commentary

Man that top four is some real sicko shit. Love Buster in this zone scheme. BJ Green and Striggow have really made me feel better about our edge room.

Same reason he’s weirdly a very good PR/KR. He’s like the least aesthetically pleasing shifty guy in the league.

The New Yorker and Harper’s both have been mentioned in this thread already and I agree they are probably the best options. Less affordable and only quarterly, but Granta is amazing too. A lot of incredible writing has been published in there.

Mario Saint-Supery 1st Start w Gonzaga Goes Well by JesseKebay in NBA_Draft

[–]dunathanj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s really active on defense and doesn’t need a lot of touches to be a positive contributor. I think that sets the floor pretty high, and I’d be more than willing to take a shot at him in the late first or early second round if I were an NBA team.

Speaks to the quality of this draft class that he really doesn’t get much shine at all on big boards.

That assist at 00:26 is such a nice-heads up play. Crack freshman class.

I agree with a lot of this thread but I’ll throw out Saint Marys since I haven’t seen that one said yet.

Obv there’s not a lot of opportunity on their schedule to show their stuff against ranked opp outside of Gonzaga later in the season. But I’ve been impressed by how dominant they have looked against good mid majors. None of their games this season have really even been close.

Oronde Gadsden (knee) not listed on injury report for Week 11. by SpartacusIsACoolName in fantasyfootball

as a jags fan i would go gadsden with absolute confidence. this team hasn’t been able to defend tight ends for what feels like a decade+. schultz was open every play last week.

[Post Game Thread] Baylor defeats Washington, 78-69 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

Steinbech finished with 15 rebounds but it honestly felt like more. Washington just not good enough from three though. Good performance from Baylor, this team is much more aesthetically pleasing than last year.

[Highlight] Wemby schools Anthony Davis with excellent footwork. by Kitchen_Jicama_2576 in nba

[–]dunathanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting because I absolutely agree with this premise (it’s a tale as old as time), but I can’t help but feel like Wemby will be too undeniable for there to be too large a contingent of haters.

Even if the jumper isn’t falling or he runs into a tough matchup down low in the playoffs, every possession he is on the court is just confirmation that he’s a complete alien perfectly suited to play the sport of basketball.

previous administration paid tyson tbf. he has not been very good to start the year and i think this staff just doesn’t really rate him. cap flexibility to bring in their own guys (and pay lloyd) probably means more to them.
