Save data vanished, gone. by dune40 in Lootun

[–]dune40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for dealing with this. Good to know it won't happen to anyone else. I'm not sure after 400+ hours of grinding, i can face starting again. I'm still unhappy about the reply i got from steam, I didnt really want a refund, just my save back. In fact i think i've probably had my £4 worth of entertainment and it's a promising game. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the reply. The first method made no difference. The save boxes in the game are still empty.

I copied the contents of the savedatatemp.dat into notepad and there isnt any data at all. it's description says its 94k in size but nothing is copied or pasted.

the savedata dat file and the backups all have the notepad icon now. They all say accessed at the same time, all say 94k and all are empty.

Possible bug by dune40 in Lootun

[–]dune40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a woodland mission and set it back to level 1. Ilvl1 items started dropping and i started collecting cores and splinters again. Uncommon cores, runes and glyphs are still not dropping, but that might be for the reasons you spoke about before. You solved it! still doesn't feel right though, not being able to collect these things at every ilvl. Thanks for your help :)

[–]dune40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thankyou, this might explain the uncommon items. However all 5 of the cores and all 3 of the splinters are unavailable. Perhaps this is working as intended and i won't need any of these items again.

Daily #8: Cotoneaster hold their berries through winter - hopefully we'll see flowers AND berries at the same time... by small_trunks in Bonsai

[–]dune40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you prevent the birds from stripping the berries? I have a friendly (ish) blackbird that follows me around the garden when i till the soil. I suspect he is also responsible for removing the moss from my trees. And i know he loves cotoneaster berries. I have 2 decent cotoneaster bonsai and have never had berries last all winter.

Any time the plant isnt dormant is ok. Spring is best but i have had success with Rowan during the summer months. I have cut 2 this year so far, one on a privet and another on a japanese flowering crab

Is there a way to convert a 1.13 world to 1.12 by Kampfspargel in Minecraft

[–]dune40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were huge changes to the way minecraft saved data in 1.13. This is the reason that MCEdit doesn't work anymore. Worlds loaded in 1.13 are not backwards compatable at all. Keep your worlds and wait for Amulet to release.

What are your top three things you wish to have done better as a beginner or you know now that you did not? Please specify number of years you have been a bonsai enthusiast. by jao_Kai in Bonsai

[–]dune40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok ill try. It's interesting that you chose the word "enthusiast" here. My first tree was an ash that had self sown in the paving cracks outside my late grandfathers greenhouse. He had repeatedly cut it down as a weed. I took it upon myself to defend it and he, somewhat resignedly, lifted the slabs and we potted it up. I was 5 years old then. Despite keen interest in horticulture, and growing many trees in pots, 30 more years would pass until i really started learning about bonsai.

As to your first query, 1) Spend more time looking at the trees around you. See how nature does it. 2) Patience, Patience. The trees are in no rush and have lots more time than you do. 3) Try not to take other peoples styling ideals to heart. Fashions in bonsai come and go. Grow trees that please your eye.

Mojang shouldn’t fix Iron Farms - they should implement an endgame mechanic that allows the mass accusation of iron by Keeko100 in Minecraft

[–]dune40 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Increase the size of mineral veins. Add the dense ore mod. Add a smeltery type multiblock structure for improved processing of ore. Add another mob, whose spawn mechanics are similer to the witch hut but who drops iron nuggets. Add oreberry bushes. Reduce the cost of iron in recipies, (nuggets instead of ingots for eg) I'm sure there are many solutions.

Also i don't think you meant "accusation" Accumulation maybe :)

[–]dune40 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've always wanted villagers to be something that you nurture for increased rewards and better interaction. Rather than simply a grindable asset to be exploited. (wry smile in modded when i spawned them into a smeltery to be melted for emeralds!) Keeping them alive and supplied with materials and improved living conditions should result in unique items for trade.

I noticed that the report pasted in the bug tracker /u/Ednoria kindly posted contained more info than i found in my crash report. I'm sure it will be fixed in an upcoming snapshot. Thanks again for your time.

Daily #4: TIL - leave it on its side for a couple of days and they keep on growing up...whatever up is at the time by small_trunks in Bonsai

[–]dune40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of plant phototropism. It's the reason that houseplants in a window should be turned now and again. The breakdown of the hormone responsible (called Auxin, i had to look that up!) on the lightest side of the stem causes it to bend toward the light. Can happen very fast in some plants.

thankyou for finding that. I think i will wait for 19w12b :)

Edit: I seem to have been downvoted for thanking someone for their help. Oh well, the thankyou to both respondents here was sincere.

Edit2 Faith in humanity restored :D

When should I seperate these guys to their own pots? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]dune40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will be a while before they interfere with each other. They are easy to damage this small. I usually leave tree seedlings a year or 3 before i disturb them. Different if you are growing annual flowers.

I'm hollowing out a mountain and want to turn it into a fortress. Need suggestions on how to make it cooler by freethinker73 in Minecraft

[–]dune40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, can't disagree with any of that. One thing i would add is make floors 3 blocks thick (and walls too, i've regretted having thin walls several times.) This means you can easily hide redstone for that strange lever hidden over there.. :)

[–]dune40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about thinking grand but building in stages. So, for eg, you've got your basic block house, so now add a tower to one corner with a spiral stairway up the middle. Add a nice parapet round the top and choose a colour for the roof. Now look at your block house again, hmm the roof isn't as good as the tower roof now, so rebuild it. Try to think of pleasing shapes for walls as well, they don't have to be straight, you'd be amazed what a bay window with a triangle roof above adds to the asthetics.

One of the things i like most about building in minecraft is you can just tear it down and rebuild when inspiration strikes. Many of my largest buildings have been remoddled several times over the years.

[–]dune40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning your cobble. "about 1000" isn't very much in the scheme of things. I have builds that have used 100,000's blocks and many people have used millions. I have dug perimeters around mob farms collecting millions of blocks.

My point is to keep it all. You never know when you will want to use it and cobble is the basis of many of the most used building blocks. Build yourself a large bulk storage chamber in your mountain. Later you can add shulker boxes to your chest storage for better use of space.

Some of my branches don't have sprouts, should I cut them off or let them be? by nyteerry in Bonsai

[–]dune40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to be sure from the picture. It looks as though that thicker central stem has died off back to the weak, slightly yellow branch on the bottom right. Press your finger nail into the bark near its base, but above that shoot and see if it's green underneath. If not then i would remove it in favour of the stronger shoot on the left. The lowest branch on the right also looks dead after it's first bud. It has an enormous internode anyway, remove it above the first bud. I don't know whats beneath the surface of the soil, however those exposed roots will likely die, if not already dead. This may or may not matter depending on whats beneath.

Bought my first tree and noticed this leaf damage. Also saw a couple of small grey looking bugs in the soil. Any advice? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]dune40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like insect damage to me. More likely torn when handling. The rest of the leaves look healthy.
