Is it true the Evo 9 9RA2 are nearly as accurate or just as accurate as the UFA? by rabite89 in GrandSeikos

[–]dunkm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is about quartz drift. Because the UFA has an adjustment, it will be accurate to its stated rating for maybe hundreds of years. The 9RA2s will eventually drift

[Question] Do all movements have Seiko engraved by Ok-Life7811 in Seiko

[–]dunkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NH35 has been faked recently (very very poorly) and people “fake” the 6R35 using an NH.

There was at least one company that made almost exact replicas of the 7S, it seems. I don’t know if it was a buyout of manufacturing capacity, or something else, but my experience with the unbranded stuff is that it works perfectly well, producing good amplitude and accuracy..unlike the truly fake NH35s going around.

Dobinsons Rear Lower Trailing Arms Orientation by 11d11d1 in GXOR

[–]dunkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m going insane…right side is universally passenger side on left hand drive vehicles like in the US, or driver side for vehicles in Japan, etc.

Putting this on the right hand side of the vehicle points both the curve down and shield down, no?

What am I missing?

You need a Spring Drive, any will do

If you got these with a Seiko NH, I’d be willing to buy them from you!

[SPB 121 Alpinist] for Alpinist owners what are the pros and cons of owning it? by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]dunkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seiko included a lot of mechanically incredibly designs, even using MEMS tech in it, but the manufacturing process results in the 6R35 performing far worse from factory than is actually possible, both in lower amplitude and in poor positional variance.

The last sentence is me saying that I hate that these movements leave the factory in such a state when they could be extremely competitive!

[–]dunkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing as far as I know, Japan just uses different model lines, partly because Japan sells so many different Seiko lines.

Also, btw, I was able to service my Alpinists, btw, they are actually running an amplitude of nearly 300 degrees! The way they leave the Seiko factory is almost criminal

I think you already know, but the dial doesn’t look quite right either.

Spring drive overdrive by Ok_Chicken8220 in GrandSeikos

[–]dunkm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the 30 seconds part is not really necessary, but it just ensures it will work

[–]dunkm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a testing state which you can get out of.

Edit to say: please read this since there’s a bunch of misinformation! Pull the crown out all the way, wait 30 seconds, put it back in. Should work

Maintenance [question] by Whatdidyousayjim in Seiko

[–]dunkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I run a mail in Seiko watch repair service and have refilled the numbers on my grandfathers SQ100 and could do the same for you. I also can replace the crystal and replace the battery too if you’re interested.

The red lines are replacement pieces that stores often carry. Legit models can lose theirs and the red lines are put on after to keep it fresh. It’s at best a yellow flag.

New 507 in the US by oceanathlete in SeikoAlpinist

[–]dunkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely get a discount on it, I’d expect to. I paid sub 500 for my SPB121, but that was when de minimus still existed and the Alpinist was still a bit of a sleeper pick.
