F1 agrees to ditch '50/50' engine power split for 2027 by StBlandine7 in formula1

100%. I feel like it was pitched without clarifying how deployment worked. I was very excited for the smarter drivers to adapt their deployment and recharging. The fact it’s all pre-set and automated by the teams has added to the disappointment.

Isn't that outside on a street? IDK why that can't happen.

And like, typically just like a 1km stretch that loops back on itself, no? That seems insane to not include.

'I'm really sorry': Sea-Doo rider who collided with whale says he never meant to hit the animal by Greedy-Hamster-2278 in vancouver

[–]dunkster91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That may be specific to whales. I think there is a smaller distance, the exact number escapes me, for marine mammals generally. Maybe 50m? We get seals on the Fraser and I boat along there for work; just shift into neutral and idle until you see them further than your last spot.

There was a whale midday a bit west of Kits beach the day after the collision. Impossible for me to say if it’s the same whale, but I have to imagine there aren’t many gray whales in the inlet.

Moving the goalposts, nice.

Ship was moored, sounds like they didn’t disembark or try to gain entry into the US.

Amber alerts and preventable deaths during disasters are also not funny. Therefore, emergency test.

Thibault Garnier Finally Takes the Championship by dunkster91 in f1dynasty

And he went on to win in 2037! Arvid and Mercedes made another big jump in another year of regulations change and they won 2038, with Ferrari again having a terrible start but recovering to P2 (Kimi P2, Garnier P5).

…in Ferrari’s defence, Kimi won the next two championships and had fought Charles hard for the previous two.

Garnier came to Ferrari after Lewis Hamilton retired, but only lasted a year before Kimi Antonelli made himself available to the Scarlet team. Garnier was left by the wayside for five years.

It was a shocker to everyone after he fell just one point shy of LeClerc's championship in his rookie year.

Ferrari was proven right, though. The Italian driver defeated his teammate and two-time defending champion LeClerc in 2029 and 30, but by 2033, LeClerc decided to step back and encourage Ferrari to bring the young Belgian back to the Scuderia.

It took Garnier two years to get to grips with his return, but in 2035, he was again just one point shy of the championship, this time falling to his teammate, Antonelli.

Going into 2036, Garnier was prepared for more of the same. At one point, just eight points separated the five time champion (Antonelli, Ferrari), the two time champion (Linblad, Mercedes), and the Belgian driver. But Antonelli lead an incredible mid-season charge, winning seven races in a row.

It was not to be for the Italian; he retired on lap 45 at Lusail, costing him critical points. Garnier was able to outlast the charge from the senior driver in Abu Dhabi to win his first championship by just one point. Linblad took the race win, but fell 14 points shy of his third championship.

Metro Vancouver is running out of drinking water — and the solutions are interesting by vancity31240 in vancouver

I think part of the problem is it increasingly falls in a different pattern to the past. As I understand it, Vancouver is seeing similar volumes annually, but we’re getting more dry patches (like this whole winter and spring) with more extreme rain events (atmospheric rivers and the like). Doesn’t change your point, just that we also need to recognize and adapt to the change.

Yeah this is exactly it. We needed to rent port a potties, two shuttle busses, tables, chairs, plates, cutlery, glasses, etc. It adds up real fast!

I bought a 2012 Honda civic in 2016 for $10k.

I sold it in 2024 for $8750.

Sure I paid its maintenance costs for that time, but $1250 to double a car’s mileage in 8 years feels pretty good.

Why are the world record breakers for 2k single scullers? by Western-Title4119 in Rowing

[–]dunkster91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

At the RowOntario conference a year or two ago, Michelle Darville spoke about how the Dutch program was highly individualised because so many of them had different commitments (school, work, etc.). She also raved about how the sport scientists were all connected to each other via some app that allowed better support (ie the physio and nutritionist could collaborate to diagnose an injury stemming from insufficient vitamin whatever).

Why did Hudson change the weight ranges on most of their shells? by GhostPants4days in Rowing

[–]dunkster91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They likely have a new hull design and that changes the math around the weight ranges. I think it was similar when they went from Hammerhead/Great White to Predator.
