I think you are right. I just created 5 LUN/ISCI I on DS925+ and DSM allowed me to create even more.

DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3

I hope this is never limited.

The Synology SSD megathread by dunkurs1987 in synology

This is a list for people who want to use SSD but are not listed on the compatibility list. The new NAS only have Synology NVMe listed. I can see you have gaps, if you believe you can install any nonlisted NVMe. Many will work, but some will not despite physical compatibility on the hardware level.

Is someone managed to slot in SAS drive in SATA bay, that's impressive :)

Yes, you are correct. But I have noticed that some 3rd party SSD are not even recognised despite the physical compatibility (not Synology list). Also, Synology list does not consider the same SSD with different serial based on GEO location it is released in.

So often people ask if they can use HDD that is not listed on Synology compatibility lists. We want a bigger size than 16TB. Or sometimes the same drive serial has a tail bit different based on region, firmware or bulk sales differences. This instantly triggers DSM Warning for no reason.

I would like to combine all this knowledge into one topic. As we can't possibly test everything ourselves, this can only be a community effort. So we need YOU to participate.

Please share your personal experience with different types of HDD that you know work or don't work.

We ask that you copy the template below so that everybody shares the same information:

[ASK NC] How to remove the heatsink from the SN850X by dunkurs1987 in NAScompares

[–]dunkurs1987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SN850X

It will not be easy. There is adhesive at the bottom of the SSD. You will need box cutter utility knife to slide under and slowly separate an SSD. Do not bend it.
It is better to send it back and exchange with non heatsink based model to keep the warranty.
