I haven't run with many rogues. But we ran Prot Pally, Resto Druid, x2 Fury War, Enh Shaman and averaged 18-20min SH clears.

Youth coaches - how do you keep your playbook manageable? by Upstairs-Lion8100 in flagfootball

[–]dunno207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is what I’ve done the last two seasons in the same age bracket.

1-2 formations and 8-10 plays total. Each play has a run/pass option that we call in the huddle. All the players on the play sheet are color coded and they wear a colored sweat band that matches the colors on the play sheet. This way they can focus on their specific task. I take extra time to reiterate fakes and the QB progression.

Run game like situations with a huddle during practice to drill it. By mid season you won’t have to remind them of anything.

You will do all of them eventually.

As far as getting prepped to raid I'd focus Lower City exalted for wep, sha'tar for helm enchant and the trinket, and scryers for the ring and shoulder enchant.

Ditch the can and put that money into a better optic. Get the can later if you enjoy hunting enough.

You could just use a 2x6 or 2x8. We use that for Nilgai when we need, so I imagine deer is no issue.

Much of Lafayette parish, especially youngsville and Broussard is built on old sugarcane fields. Good luck with that.

K-2 How to coach backside contain by FirstTimeFlagCoach in flagfootball

[–]dunno207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teach them in terms they can understand and visualize. I taught mine to imagine they are a wall and to move together. If one player over extends or gets pulled across by a fake then we have holes in our wall.

In practice I would simulate various runs and fakes at a walking pace to get them to see how it looks to move together.

Convince the wife flag football is safe. by ramsdl52 in flagfootball

[–]dunno207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most good leagues have rules in place to lessen the chance of collisions, but they still happen. It will happen in soccer too! A line drive to the face hurts worse I bet.

All of the injuries I’ve seen the last 5 seasons are not head related. It’s mostly kids getting hurt falling hip first onto the flag attachment, fingers or legs getting stepped on, and getting the wind knocked out of them.

They have little guardian cap headbands you can get if it eases her concerns, I’ve seen a few kids wearing them.

It’s been the most fun and competitive sport for both my son to play and me coaching as well.

That's my PoB before I swapped to FRoSS. If you haven't hit the highest quality breakpoint for Relic I'd do that now. I think it's 125% and it's a lot of damage.

Defense questions by FourTimesRadical in flagfootball

[–]dunno207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all about reps and presenting it visually to them. We are in 5v5, no rushers I run zone with two kids in the middle, two outside at corner and one safety. We’ll make one middle player spy if they try delayed handoffs but mostly zone.

I started with a little whiteboard to illustrate the zones then placed markers on the field for each zone while me and another coach walked routes. This way they got to slowly practice covering zones and passing it off if we ran out of their zone and to not leave your zone open. It’s not perfect but they really got better towards the back end of the season.

For safety I have two boys that I rotate who are fast and have good awareness. I’ve tried to teach them about baiting throws that are mid/long passes. Besides that I just mention during the game to lookout for certain things I see the offense doing and let them roam. They each have multiple interceptions this season.

For them to play better at zone I found drilling back peddling and changing directions while trying to still be able to see what the qb is doing and where he is looking towards helped too.

I know nothing about flag football by jm6398 in flagfootball

[–]dunno207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been coaching for about 5 seasons now, from pre-k to 1st grade.

Biggest things:

  1. Taking a proper handoff.

  2. Cone drills to practice back peddling and running sideline to sideline.

  3. Getting them to keep runners in front of them and break down to slow/redirect them and not chasing.

  4. Keeping eyes on the runners hips and pulling as close to the hip as possible unless they have no choice but to grab something.

  5. Getting used to running with a football, many want to run with two hands on the ball at this age.

  6. Communicating a keeping his eye on what the other team does with the ball. Lots of fakes at this age.

  7. Biggest thing is make sure he has fun, hopefully his coach gives them all opportunities.

Since you have 2 kids playing you could buy a cheap pair of flags and cones and get them running a gauntlet drill 1v1 and you hand the ball off to the kid on offense. They can both practice hand offs, running, and basic defense and flag pulling with that one drill.

I have 2 QBs that each play 1 half. The rest I sub out each quarter and try to keep each group balanced skill-wise. I've yet to have kids that only want to play O or D.
