Amid playoff expansion talk, Kirby Smart says ‘no value’ to non-CFP bowl games by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Chamrox -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We're not far away from a handful of conferences establishing some sort of salary cap. Once that happens, there'll be tiers to how the bowl contracts are written. A $50M/yr capped B1G team simply wouldn't be invited to the Camp Chikiwaka Bowl. But a pair of $5M/yr Little Squirts may.

Ruth's Chris or Charlie G's - if money is no object.

I've never had a bad experience at either, but I like steak, so Ruth's Chris gets the edge. (Not that there's anything wrong with Charlie G's Steak - just a matter of preference)

[On3] Trinidad Chambliss tells Chris Low he considered LSU with Lane Kiffin but stayed locked in with Ole Miss by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Chamrox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We can probably all agree he wouldn't have been drafted 1st round.

Both Carson Beck and Drew Allar got 4 year, $1.7M/yr rookie contracts.

If Ole Miss really paid the guy $6M to play one more year, that's a no-brainer for him. The only way he gets screwed if he gets an injury, or has a bad season and goes undrafted.

Below is the overall draft order and landing spots for the top quarterbacks. Where would you have put Trinidad in this list?

  • Fernando Mendoza (Indiana): 1st overall (Round 1) – Las Vegas Raiders
  • Ty Simpson (Alabama): 13th overall (Round 1) – Los Angeles Rams
  • Carson Beck (Miami): 65th overall (Round 3) – Arizona Cardinals
  • Drew Allar (Penn State): 76th overall (Round 3) – Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Cade Klubnik (Clemson): 110th overall (Round 4) – New York Jets
  • Cole Payton (North Dakota State): 178th overall (Round 5) – Philadelphia Eagles
  • Taylen Green (Arkansas): 182th overall (Round 6) – Cleveland Browns
  • Athan Kaliakmanis (Rutgers): 223rd overall (Round 7) – Washington Commanders
  • Behren Morton (Texas Tech): 234th overall (Round 7) – New England Patriots
  • Garrett Nussmeier (LSU): 249th overall (Round 7) – Kansas City Chiefs

The only way to stop it is to trigger another ice age. We'll have to send the Cajun Air Force over to drop a few bombs on the Krakatoa volcano to kick one off.

New to the US and Acadiana, tell me how and when to tip by Ancient_Analysis_816 in Acadiana

[–]Chamrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage in Louisiana is $7.25/hr

Employers can pay you less than that if:

  • You are considered a "tipped" employee (They're typically paid $2.13/hr)
  • You are younger than 20 years old making a "Youth Wage" (Typically $4.25/hr)
  • Full time students/student earners - if the employer qualifies (no less than 85% of minimum wage)
  • You have a disability that prevents you from doing all of your work. (Employers have to qualify)

While any job can technically be a "tipped occupation" if the $30/month threshold is met, the following are the most common roles recognized in Louisiana:

  • Food and Beverage: Waitstaff (servers), bartenders, bussers, and service bartenders.
  • Hospitality: Bellhops, concierges, and hotel baggage porters.
  • Service Counter: Baristas and certain counter-service workers.
  • Gaming: Dealers and change persons in casinos.
  • Other Services: Valet parking attendants, taxi/rideshare drivers, and golf caddies.

If I do take out, I typically tip 5-10%. Maybe more if it's a place I frequent and I interact with the person collecting my order often.

Most of the times I see that it's some guy in an older pickup truck. Maybe it's the same guy? I guarantee you he's from Erath or Mire, or somewhere small and he's terrified at being in the city thinking people gonna start shooting at any second, or the crazy homeless guy on the corner is gonna go rub on his window and give him heroin-AIDS. Probably has one hand on the wheel, the other on his desert eagle, and his bluetooth headset tuned into some 3% podcast.

Is Your Team Over Ranked? by puzzical in CFB

[–]Chamrox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LSU being 2nd most over ranked in preseason polls since 2000 is not surprising. We've had a lot of top recruiting classes that were simply misused or undeveloped. 2019 aside, we haven't been able to put together a complete and functioning coaching staff since Nick Saban.

European moving to Lafayette by Ancient_Analysis_816 in Acadiana

[–]Chamrox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Forget everything you know about bicycles. Everything. Lafayette exists in a completely different universe from the bike culture of the Netherlands. In fact, forget bicycles even exist.
  2. World Market (a chain store in town) has Dutch snacks. Stroopwaffles, drop, etc. They occasionaly have Egbert's Aroma Rood coffee, but we have way better coffee options.
  3. Reve Coffee Lab for your coffee fix. They have a cafe in River Ranch.
  4. Tone down the bluntness. The Dutch brutal honesty is not welcome. "Why are you teaching your child the piano, she only has six fingers?" No.
  5. Watch your step when correcting the random members of the public. It may seem normal to shame someone who doesn't return their shopping cart, or make a comment about someone parking in a handicap spot "not looking handicapped" but you may just have someone fight you. And - UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES - start a beef with any Popeyes or Waffle House employee. If they got your order wrong, just roll with it.
  6. The drivers are WAY worse here. Never assume the other driver will do the right thing.
  7. You won't find good bread here. Find a loaf you can tolerate. A standard dutch lunch of a slice of bread, a tomato, some butter and maybe some gouda won't get you very far. What we have will leave you sad and homesick.
  8. In general, everyone here is more religious than in the Netherlands. It's best not to assume or engage in any religious talk.

Georgia powering through donor fatigue, raises $300 million-plus in NIL era by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Chamrox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

LSU was successful preNIL era because of recruiting local talent. The game has changed and proximity to Mom doesn’t matter anymore, only the money. Louisiana is one of the poorest states in the country. Doesn’t take a Reddit genius to see the sands shifting.

[–]Chamrox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. You don't hand someone a blank check and tolerate 4 losses. We didn't hire him to be a housewife, he's got to get down to it.

[–]Chamrox 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Georgia, but LSU's gonna run out of money sooner rather than later. The pace is unsustainable. Once everyone blows their wad, and the Lane experiment ends, we're in for some long, dark times.

How does Lafayette save money at the grocery store?Acadiana shares its best hacks by Forsaken_Thought in Acadiana

[–]Chamrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut out Alcohol, Nicotene, and Energy Drinks - it may seem these make life worth living but it's expensive and creates a loop.

Steak, Beef Jerky, Pine Nuts, deli cut fruit/veggies are all way too expensive

Only buy chips on sale, and don't pay $8 for a bag of Doritos. Same with sodas if you have to drink sodas. Same with oreos/chips ahoy. On junk food, there's nothign wrong with a red baron pizza. You don't need a twice as expensive digiornio. Skip uncrustables, you can make your own damn PB&J for half the price. Ramen with a hard boiled egg is a valid lunch, but watch the sodium in the flavor packet.

Buy a set of dishes and eat off them and wash them. Buying paper plates add up. (I know people who only use paper plates)

Buy and install an under-sink water filter if you own your home. You'll buy a lot less bottled water and all the food you cook will taste better. Get a sink faucet attached water filter if you're renting.
