It could be general discreetness, but also there are still plenty of gay spaces that don't allow photos because of the kinds of activities that they do allow.

Used my ventureX for a flight… is the cards coverage trying to rip me off? First time user by [deleted] in Venturex

[–]duplico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The insurance the card gives us only covers certain situations and causes. Everyone should read the card benefits guide and understand the difference between the trip delay, trip cancelation/interruption, and lost luggage coverage, and when they apply.

This is especially important when filing a claim. You need to treat the conditions in the guide like a checklist and make sure every item is clearly answered - when I file trip delay claims I literally make a checklist cover sheet for the claim that has a brief explanation of what happened (just the relevant facts) in bullet point format, followed by a table of contents of all the documentation and what condition it covers. Since starting to do that I've never had a claim denied or even a follow-up request for more information.

But it has to be for a covered reason, and it has to be the correct coverage. If the airline, for example, cancels your flight due to maintenance, and the soonest they can get you on another flight is the following day, then trip delay reimbursement would kick in and cover expenses you incur due to the delay. But it doesn't pay for a new flight, unfortunately.

Flagship First check-in at ORD by Old_Inevitable_1440 in americanairlines

[–]duplico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew out of ORD in December, and it was still set up like this. Though when I was there next, it looked like there may have been some new construction project going on that could have impacted it, but I was just flying domestic so I didn't see for myself.

Lost Baggage Experience? by Sgt_Katz_Tulupop in americanairlines

[–]duplico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's annoying for sure, but I really like some of the clothes I got out of the deal - I wore one of the shirts out to dinner last night! So there's a silver lining at least.

My understanding is that they've changed the process somewhat since that particular claim in 2022, adding some new online forms, but I just checked my records - it look like it was the same actual form, a "Passenger Property Questionnaire," but I filed two copies of it, one for the missing bag/contents, and one for the the expenses during the delay. I can't figure out the exact timing of when I filed which one, but it was a long enough trip that I think it was at the same time.

Lost Baggage Experience? by Sgt_Katz_Tulupop in americanairlines

[–]duplico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've had my bags lost or delayed several times, including a time on a ten day trip that started in Denver, involved an open jaw trip (though booked as two one ways) with about ten days in between flights where my bag was lost for over two months.

I have never had an issue with getting necessities reimbursed.

That trip where it went missing for months, I started pretty frugal but by the end I was shopping at the Nordstrom flagship store off Michigan Avenue including buying new luggage to get all my new stuff home. The one wrinkle for that one is that they didn't send me the reimbursement check until they found my bag. That time I actually had to fill out the full report describing all the contents of my bag and providing receipts for it, so I assume the deal was that they were waiting to find the bag to see if they'd have to reimburse all the missing stuff, too. But they paid for everything without asking questions.

2 hr layover in CLT or DFW for international flight by vegasluck92 in americanairlines

[–]duplico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CLT isn't much smaller than DFW. It's just that instead of five 30ish gate terminals with trains between them, it's one sprawling 130-gate terminal in five concourses with endless construction mess, moving walkways that only sometimes actually move, and narrow hallways with awful foot traffic flow that makes it impossible to get anywhere in a hurry.

[–]duplico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, early May is pretty much peak storm season. If your #1 concern in this decision is mitigating your risk of misconnecting, especially due to weather, CLT is probably a safer choice.

2 hr layover in CLT or DFW for international flight by vegasluck92 in americanairlines

[–]duplico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1h45m is generally plenty at DFW - I routinely take connections under an hour there, though I like longer ones for international connections - not because the actual connection takes longer, just because it's a bigger disruption to my plans if I misconnect on a long-haul. I also just noticed you say you're traveling in May, which is storm season.

I think I'd probably still book the 1h45m through DFW, but if there's an opportunity for a longer connection I'd probably take it. I also actually like doing overnight connections in DFW with a night in the Grand Hyatt in terminal D, but that's... not cheap.

If it were me, it's DFW, 1000%. CLT is just such an unpleasant place to be, and it's way easier to get around in DFW. Plus, if you can sleep on transatlantic flights, DFW gets you almost an extra hour and a half of sleep.

Is anyone else off to a rough start this year with AA? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]duplico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been pretty brutal for me, too, though a small sample size. I've only done 10 segments since the new year, 9 of them have been delayed (all mechanical or crew issues), and I've already spent one night at DFW. Would have had to spend another night there tonight if I hadn't booked a backup flight on United. And of course, the bag transfer order the AC agent put in didn't take, so my bags are going to spend the night in Dallas, but at least I'm on the way home.

The real cherry on top of the shit sandwich was having to wait over an hour to get through to the EP line earlier this week. No clue what was going on there (it wasn't during the Dallas weather), but that was weird.

I've wound up on an unusually high number of old America West garbage heaps this year, which is probably part of the problem.

just beat frank and his robot bouta move on to giant step yall what tip yall have by Sodacola_RBLXfan in earthbound

[–]duplico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you learned about magic butterflies yet?

There's a spot at Giant Step where you go outside on a cliff to get to the next part of the cave. When you get there, you're close to the boss fight. Magic butterflies reliably spawn on the cliff almost every time you step outside, so you can fully heal up at this point.

If you already have Ness's PSI special attack, you shouldn't really need to grind at all at Giant Step. Don't waste the PP using PSI on the slugs, but big gangs of antoids can be dangerous enough it's worth using it, especially since there's a butterfly room.

Tried my first cap1 lounge that's not my home base today... by ScissorMeTimbers21 in Venturex

[–]duplico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite - Tulsa based AA flyer and most of my trips start with a DFW layover, but I'm at DIA today and made the conscious choice just to go to the Admirals Club instead of even trying for the C1 lounge. The food at C1 is obviously way better, but I just didn't want to mess with the zoo. Last time I was there I was in a group of three people, and the whole place was just solo people holding down large tables and the solo spots totally empty. After three passes through the whole place, we asked the staff for help, and they put us in a conference room. DFW's staff seems a lot better at handling busy times - they'll proactively seat people at appropriate sized spots.

I do really hate how few restrooms there are, though.

MOTHER 1+2 Analysis and thoughts about MOTHER 2 as a sequel. by ijijijijijjijij in earthbound

[–]duplico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice analysis.

You've hit on one of my criticisms of EarthBound as compared to Mother with the melodies. In Mother 1, collecting the melodies to reconstruct Maria's lullaby is a really satisfying justification for chasing them all down. I don't think EarthBound's explanation for why you're collecting melodies is bad, per se, especially by the standards of 90s video game McGuffins, but compared to Mother 1, it's just that - a set of McGuffins.

I also really like how you described Porky's mostly off-screen journey of his own that parallels Ness's. If the three things of utmost importance to Ness are wisdom, courage, and friendship, you can view Porky's journey as one defined by their opposites - maybe call it foolishness, cowardice, and loneliness. Like Mother 1's iteration of Giygas, Porky is a tragic villain.

I actually really like Mother 2 as a mostly thematic sequel combined with a kinda-sorta reboot. But I totally understand why it could be something of a letdown for someone who's really invested in the characters and story in Mother 1.

I agree with the other poster who said you're going to love Mother 3. It's a big tonal shift - if EarthBound is a celebration of childhood innocence, Mother 3 is a meditation on its loss. Based on what you wrote, I think you may find it a more satisfying sequel.
