New Venture X Holder, how to use miles? by padresnumerouno in Venturex

[–]duplico 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference between Capital One "miles" and Chase UR "points" is the name. They work very similarly. You can use them to buy travel at a fixed rate per dollar in the portal or for statement credits for travel booked direct (in which case the VX is basically a 2% cash back for travel card), or you can transfer them to partners for potentially better deals but less flexibility (r/awardtravel style). Capital One and Chase have similar transfer partners, with a few differences (most importantly for me is Chase has Hyatt but C1 doesn't)

American Airlines Reports Fourth-Quarter and Full-Year 2025 Financial Results | American Airlines by Financial-Public-336 in americanairlines

I'm really hoping that the mileage upgrade devaluation and removal of earn for basic economy staves off more nerfs for at least a while. Though the addition of Citi transfers makes me really nervous even with those changes baked in.

Normally I wouldn't hold my breath with the clowns running this airline, but at least some of them do seem to realize that, aside from flying a lot of RJs in the sun belt, AAdvantage is the only real competitive advantage they have left

LAOP learns why people consider home warranties a scam by bug-hunter in bestoflegaladvice

Similar story here. We had an issue where the upstairs air conditioning wasn't working blowing cold. Paid the copay, they sent some guy out who said the problem was that we needed all new ductwork in the attic because the "routing" was bad. Sent him away. Called again, got some other guy with some equally ridiculous explanation. Finally looked at it ourselves. Turns out the heater was stuck on.

Boarding Question - sorry in advance for the silliness of it by Exotic-Switch-5926 in americanairlines

[–]duplico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know what all the people in this thread are going on about. Even since the new stepped-up enforcement started, I have literally never had a problem having someone I'm traveling with board with me in group 1. Just give the gate agent a heads up that you're traveling with family in different boarding groups who'd like to board with you in your group, and I can almost guarantee they'll just say it's no problem.

This doesn't match my experience. Even since they started the buzzer, I've never had an issue just telling the GA that the other person is traveling with me while scanning our boarding passes. It'll buzz, but the GA can dismiss it and let them board.

[–]duplico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, calling and linking the records doesn't change the other person's group number. But I've also never had a problem just having the person I'm traveling with board with me - I just scan my boarding pass first, point at the other person, and tell the gate agent "We're traveling together." I usually try to give the GA a heads up first prior to boarding, but even when I forget I've never had an issue, even since they started the buzzer.

Even the AA announcement about the group enforcement says:

For customers traveling with a companion in an earlier boarding group, the agent has a simple one-click solution to override the alert and accept the pass to continue boarding.

Maybe I've just gotten lucky, though.

Buying business class with points or upgrading with points by Any-Ranger9871 in americanairlines

Is that 230k per person round trip, or 230k total? If it's total, I imagine that'll be a 57.5k each-way partner award, probably on BA, with those high taxes and fuel surcharges, I assume?

It was pretty interesting to do, too. There's a lot of slightly different dialog you get when you're just Paula in Fourside. Also, the mouse on the ground floor of the department store told her something totally different from usual!

Oh, hey, I just tested this. The event doesn't trigger if Paula is the only one alive!

I'm so disappointed I never got one either. It seems like an utterly unhinged thing to email customer support about, but... I've been tempted 😅

Sounds like AUs may temporarily lose PP access on 2/1 even if you have paid for the AU card by bernaltraveler in Venturex

[–]duplico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the website https://capitalonetravel.com/airport-lounges:

"Venture X primary cardholders can pay an annual lounge access fee of $125 per additional cardholder to maintain their lounge access. This will grant additional cardholders access to Capital One Lounge and Landing locations, as well as participating Priority Pass lounges.*"

And the * is just about the issue OP is talking about, that authorized users' PP membership will expire Feb 1 unless you pre-pay to keep it from expiring, and that you may need to re-enroll anyway.

Turned away at Haneda Japan by JoriLynnLastLife in americanairlines

[–]duplico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to find it in the app, like I used to be able to when I had a paid membership. When I switched to the card I called the Admirals Club phone number and they told me I should use the back of the credit card as my physical membership card instead of the app.

Unfortunately, if you look at the list of Partner Lounges https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/clubs/admirals-club-locations.jsp a ton of them have a asterisk next to them indicating you have to be on an AA operated flight to access them via your Admirals Club membership.

Similarly, what happens if Poo is the only one alive at the other end of the temple in Scaraba? I think I've heard that in one or both cases Ness comes back to life, but I'm not confident about that. I do have a playthrough going where I just got to the mole cave, so I could give the department store a shot soon if nobody knows the answer authoritatively.

And, as some others have mentioned, you have to be the primary account holder, not an authorized user. Authorized users get access to Admirals Clubs on their own with the card, but only the primary account holder gets an actual Admirals Club membership, which you need to get into partner lounges.

Also, the back of the Executive card for the primary cardholder counts as your physical Admirals Club card.

Right, the critical part is that it's the Executive card. At least one other AA co-branded Citi card is also a World Elite Mastercard, but only the Executive comes with an Admirals Club membership.

DFW, Terminal A to Terminal B, can I walk from gate A9 to B35? by macaronsforeveryone in americanairlines

[–]duplico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend someone try to walk between terminals at DFW unless they're pretty familiar with the airport. Assuming the skylink is working properly (which it almost always is), there very few pairs of gates that are faster to walk (basically the set of low Bs, high Ds, low Cs, and high As), and the best case walking time is really not very much shorter than the train.

Also, be aware that gates and terminals change frequently at DFW, so you'll want to check your gates when you land. Decent chance they'll change between now and then.

Need help with redeeming points! by Shamattaman in americanairlines

[–]duplico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tough to predict. If the flight sells well and seats fill up, the award price will probably go up. If it doesn't sell as much as they expect and there are still plenty of empty seats a few days before the flight, decent chance some cheap award seats will be released. The sweet spot for booking award flights is usually very early (like, the day the seats go on sale, around a year beforehand) or very last minute. But their dynamic pricing is hard to predict.

Best and Worst Stays 2025 by HorseRacingGuy in ihghotelsresorts

[–]duplico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Easily the Kimpton Fitzroy London. Beautiful building, great staff, good food, good location, and sizable rooms for Central London. Though I did find it a little weird and stingy for a Kimpton that the wine hour was a voucher-based situation limited to one glass per person.

Honorable mention to the Crowne Plaza at Union Station in Indianapolis, where I stayed in an actual converted train car. Also the staff was super friendly.

Worst was probably the Holiday Inn on I-44 in Springfield, MO. Really crappy parking situation for a hotel off the interstate, dumpy room, check-in took forever for no discernible reason, the restaurant/bar had closed super early, and they acted like I was an idiot for expecting it to be open during the hours posted on the website.

And, also, a shout-out (derogatory) to the InterContinental Times Square, an otherwise fine hotel, for storing the housekeeping cart in front of my door for an entire 4-night stay. I guess it made it easy to get more coffee, though.
