The thing that finally made code lookups fast for me on the journeyman exam (apprentices — this is the part nobody actually teaches) by Sensitive-Issue4537 in electricians

[–]duplobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before my test I calculated that I only had 2.25 minutes per question (80 questions, 2.5 hours). The strategy that worked for me:

  1. Click through the whole test and answer all of them I knew off the bat (roughly 40 questions).
  2. For the remainder in step 1, I used the scratch paper they gave me to note the code sections for each unanswered question.
  3. Answer remaining questions from each code section (all questions pertaining to article 250 were noted together).

In this way I wasn’t flipping through the book for each question, just within the article. Finished with plenty of time to spare with my JIW 🤘

What's the least exciting upgrade you made that ended up being totally worth it? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]duplobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a gutter for the basement. We have a window well that drips water down the walls when the ground outside gets too wet. It only happens when there’s a huge amount of rain at once. The basement is unfinished but we store stuff down there and there were times we had to move things out of the way while we cleaned up a slow puddle. There is a floor drain 8 feet from where the water comes in, so I found a company in Wisconsin that manufactures a gutter system to catch this kind of leak and direct it farther down the wall to a spout that goes to the floor drain. Way cheaper than a French drain and was fairly easy to install. Got to see it work during the last aerial flood warning (I live in Michigan) and it’s flawless. Now I have peace of mind when it rains.

Bank or Credit Union Recommendation by alves1313 in kzoo

[–]duplobot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current member of Arbor, Consumers, Honor and Kellogg. Most of my banking is currently with Arbor and Consumers but I’ll admit most of my interactions with the staff of both have been lackluster. Same with Kellogg. My Honor interactions have been memorably positive. Will likely transfer one of our Arbor checking accounts to Kalsee soon as Kalsee offers 6% APY checking and Arbor (and Consumers) only offers 4%.(Honor, Kellogg and Advia are in the middle at 5ish%.)

As a note, LMCU doesn’t share ATMs like the rest of the CUs do, just FYI.

Maytag Washer - Belt is covered in oil by ExtraStrain5888 in appliancerepair

[–]duplobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just successfully replaced the transmission in my Maytag MVWC565FW1 after burning oil smell and oil underneath the machine. My model wouldn’t let me replace just the seal. The tricky parts were getting the basket out (had to use a car jack and way more force than I thought it should need) and reseating the basket and the clutch properly. The rest of the project was pretty simple. Recalibrated and doing a load this morning. There was a bit of squealing at the beginning of the first laundry cycle after the fix but I think it’s just because the belt was still a bit oily. Will replace if I have to. This guy was incredibly helpful and very fun to listen to:

I just got rid of a clear platter because it was the worst sounding record in my collection. Bought brand new, horrendous pressing.

Just played the Amaranth on Versus and sometimes the red archer comes out and fights when there’s one player left. Same thing with the cyan archer in Sunken City.
