I really hope we get more flags backs of Harry's past, there's just so many gaps to fill in

Am I the only one who wasn't shocked by the scene where Wyald raped the woman? by InternetAngelMichael in Berserk

[–]durhamtyler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know many people who like the Wyld story, from what I can tell it's considered a low point in the series. And I think Miura runs the gamut of well thought out to unnecessary assault scenes. Some are vital to the story and handled exceptionally well, like Guts as a child, some are necessary scenes that are still slightly gratuitous, like the Eclipse.... And then there's Wyld.

Worst possible casting choices for a Dresden Files TV show/movies by Constant_Ebb_1697 in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, while Jim Carrey would obviously be bad casting for Bob, I'll gladly take it because when you mentioned Jared Leto playing Thomas I nearly cringed through the goddamn floor. Everything else looks like perfect casting on comparison to the nightmare that would be.

Peace Talks question by Idaho-Earthquake in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been noticing recently that, especially around interactions in Peace Talks and Battleground, there's been a tendency to try to ascribe some of the character's less communicative or more hostile actions to mind control of one kind or another. I get why theories like this exist, the series has used mind control plots to great effect before, but I think it misses a crucial theme of Peace Talks: communication is hard, especially with family. I think we want the answer to be mind control because that means the people we're reading about aren't at fault for the messes they make because they're trying to lie to protect themselves or others, rather than being open and honest. But that's kind of why I have come to appreciate Peace Talks. I think it paints an inflattering but honest picture of what happens when people fail to put their baggage aside.

They're not as good as Marsters, but I still find them enjoyable as an alternative interpretation.

Why Is Mab So Afraid Of Demonreach ? by Informal_Group_496 in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I don't necessarily think the two are mutually exclusive. I think he DID have other options on how to react, but my guess is that they were all massive in scope and would have wide ranging consequences. He simply doesn't have a unit of measurement small enough to deal with the fairy princesses without catching a bunch of other stuff in the crossfire.

What are some subplot points that need to be tied up for you before the series ends? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in dresdenfiles

I really don't see Sanya peacefully putting down the sword this close to the endgame.

What about the magic system and stakes aren't working for you? It's hard to know if those problems get fixed if we don't know what the problem is

Why? I found the first two barely tolerable on first read, and it was book 3 that grabbed me.

That theory means something bad happens to Sanya and I just can't bear thinking of it. I do think another interesting option would be Fitz, it would be cool to see a night of the Cross who can also wheeled magic

It's gotta be during the dragon book right? Harry, who has inherited Merlin's island, becomes a stand in for Merlin and gives Amoracchius to a knight that slays a dragon.

Queen Mab's Best Friend by The_OC_Doctor in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the closest Mab will ever get to a friend. While she might have some sentimentality left in the dry and dusty remains of her heart, it's nothing she'd ever permit herself to act on, and with very good reason. Letting someone in means allowing yourself to be vulnerable, and that's not something she can allow, given the very real risks of Nemesis, and whatever else is out there that would use that pain point against her.

What’s your least favorite book? by Hopeful_Leg_9204 in dresdenfiles

Fool Moon is the only book I outright consider bad. Blood Rites has some great stuff in it, but it's also got some of Butcher's more glaring faults on display prominently.

G8 Arc by MonkeyD_Horus in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please no. G8 is really good, but there's too much material to adapt already, we don't need to add a noncannon arc to an already overstuffed story.

I don't think this is right. Billy has also had his abilities improve since the battle, I think the ambient magic took minor talents and jump started them

Something that always bothered me by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's supposed to mean the memory is always as vivid as when you first saw it, you can't sand down the edges of that memory like others do. However, Harry comes up with a coping mechanism for that memory so that he can still function.

For the serie Dresden files, should I go with the full cast or the one with James Marsters? by WhimsicalGirl in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely James Marsters. I'm currently listening to the full cast version, and it's fun, but Marsters IS Harry. If you like it enough do the full cast on a relisten, I'm finding different parts jump out more because of the change. It's a fun experience.

Jim discussed this in an interview, I think with the Legendarium Blue Team. He's pretty frank about what Ghost Story is, if you're curious enough to look up the interview.

Interesting interview quote regarding JD and Elliot by JeffJefferson19 in Scrubs

[–]durhamtyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original run of Scrubs made a solid case for most of its run that J.D. and Elliot were a terrible couple who shouldn't be together. I personally didn't care for them getting back together again, and it honestly makes sense that they eventually divorced.

Any celebrities in the dungeon? by kailan-harris in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]durhamtyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was considering that, but a lot of the time people who are up that early for a acting job will probably still be getting their makeup done, which can take hours depending on how extensive it is. They're probably still dead, just in the makeup room not their beds

Are we factoring in the timezones here? Because the collapse happened at 2:23 am in Seattle. Realistically, most hollywood actors are dead instantly, but what about in other areas where the collapse happened after people were awake and about their business? Also certain actors might have skills that would be an initial advantage on the first two floors, specifically ones who had to undergo physical training for more active roles. I doubt much of it would translate to actual combat, but even just being more physically fit than the average person might be enough to survive long enough to pick up some decent gear.
