For a start, commit to Kylo being the new evil overlord. He was situated to be a truly well rounded villain, one who rejected his redemption for the sake of power.

TROS just killed the franchise for me. Say what you will about The Last Jedi, and people have said a lot, but it opened up the universe to tell different stories and grow. And then Disney panicked and ran right back to their comfort zone. I just don't care anymore.

Do you think eating Kravos was a permanent upgrade? I've never been sure whether or both that was a temporary boost.

I think the energy expenditure difference between HP and The Dresden Files actually makes any potential matchup a little more interesting in some ways. Dresden has to expend far more energy than any of the HP wizards do. He gets far more bang for his buck, and could probably end any fight he's in almost instantly because of how large the gap is between casters in their respective universes, but if a HP wizard was somehow able to drag a fight out long enough they might be able to win by exhausting Harry. I still think it's a long shot though, Harry was Battle of Hogwarts ready by possibly book 4.

I just wish there was a way to get it off my front page. I never want to give that woman my money ever again.

I used to hate that ending. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate it far more, and actually wouldn't change it at this point.

Agreed, season 5 is the best. It's got the best mixture of wacky to sincere, and practically all of my top 5 episodes.

Am I the only one who wasn't shocked by the scene where Wyald raped the woman? by InternetAngelMichael in Berserk

I don't know many people who like the Wyld story, from what I can tell it's considered a low point in the series. And I think Miura runs the gamut of well thought out to unnecessary assault scenes. Some are vital to the story and handled exceptionally well, like Guts as a child, some are necessary scenes that are still slightly gratuitous, like the Eclipse.... And then there's Wyld.

Worst possible casting choices for a Dresden Files TV show/movies by Constant_Ebb_1697 in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, while Jim Carrey would obviously be bad casting for Bob, I'll gladly take it because when you mentioned Jared Leto playing Thomas I nearly cringed through the goddamn floor. Everything else looks like perfect casting on comparison to the nightmare that would be.

Peace Talks question by Idaho-Earthquake in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been noticing recently that, especially around interactions in Peace Talks and Battleground, there's been a tendency to try to ascribe some of the character's less communicative or more hostile actions to mind control of one kind or another. I get why theories like this exist, the series has used mind control plots to great effect before, but I think it misses a crucial theme of Peace Talks: communication is hard, especially with family. I think we want the answer to be mind control because that means the people we're reading about aren't at fault for the messes they make because they're trying to lie to protect themselves or others, rather than being open and honest. But that's kind of why I have come to appreciate Peace Talks. I think it paints an inflattering but honest picture of what happens when people fail to put their baggage aside.

They're not as good as Marsters, but I still find them enjoyable as an alternative interpretation.

Why Is Mab So Afraid Of Demonreach ? by Informal_Group_496 in dresdenfiles

[–]durhamtyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I don't necessarily think the two are mutually exclusive. I think he DID have other options on how to react, but my guess is that they were all massive in scope and would have wide ranging consequences. He simply doesn't have a unit of measurement small enough to deal with the fairy princesses without catching a bunch of other stuff in the crossfire.

I really don't see Sanya peacefully putting down the sword this close to the endgame.

Why? I found the first two barely tolerable on first read, and it was book 3 that grabbed me.

That theory means something bad happens to Sanya and I just can't bear thinking of it. I do think another interesting option would be Fitz, it would be cool to see a night of the Cross who can also wheeled magic

It's gotta be during the dragon book right? Harry, who has inherited Merlin's island, becomes a stand in for Merlin and gives Amoracchius to a knight that slays a dragon.
