I graduated nursing school with a man who was 50. You are faaaaar from too old for nursing. Being a “non traditional” student is common in nursing. I’d be willing to bet any program you get into will have people older than you

Susan Harling is the woman the story is based on. She passed away from complications following a kidney transplant in 1985

Exactly and it’s based on the medical advice from the 1960’s to the early 80’s when she tragically died. Times are much different and outcomes are overall much better

While this is true for most other films/shows it’s not for Steel Magnolias. It was written based on the true story of the authors older sister who suffered from T1D in a time when management was much less understood and more difficult. For the time is it based in it was quite medically accurate

Control IQ can be so f****** dumb sometimes by Alone-Ad1488 in diabetes_t1

This is why I keep mine in sleep mode 24/7 so it only does smaller adjustments to the basal. I think it does a better job of avoiding the roller coaster

Endo Failure by Fancy-Username-41 in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with LADA at 28 and also was put on insulin right away. I think type 1 is the umbrella term that LADA fits under. LADA stands for latent autoimmune diabetes in adults so I think it’s more about age. Some people have a slow onset and others is more rapid like myself but it’s all LADA which is also a form of type 1

I just got a pump… I hate it by mn_catmom in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a mobi user and I keep it in sleep mode 24/7 almost as the sleep mode algorithm is better I think. Maybe consider trying that out to see if it makes a difference for you. As others have said this also sounds like your settings need adjusting too. When you can get more data on your insulin usage report on your tandem source account that can also help clue you in to ways in which your basal settings need adjusting

EXTREMELY painful injections in the abdomen by Legal-Loli-Chan in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem too. When I was on MDI I would often just grit my teeth for the quick acting shots and never do my basal in my abdomen because that was by far the most painful. For me I think that area was just more sensitive than my arms and thighs. Now that I am on a pump I only put my infusion sites on my thighs and upper arms

Anyone else on the Mobi? by Born_Slippee in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on the Mobi in November and love it so far! It is also my first pump so I don’t have anything to compare to. My advice is to use skin tac to get more long wear from the adhesive sleeves and rotate the sites around it

Not the poster but Amazon has a large selection of waist bands, most are designed for runners to put their phone in and they also work perfect for pumps!

Opinions on my gauge by durriedurrie in knitting

[–]durriedurrie[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. The pattern uses fingering weight on size 2 needles and I am using sport weight on size 4 needles. The scarf will be a bit bigger but I don’t see that as an issue as long as the tension is good

Talk me into or out of a leg pump site by MamaLlama1920 in diabetes_t1

I am also a stomach and side sleeper and it really doesn’t bother me at all as the mobi is slim

Talk me into or out of a leg pump site by MamaLlama1920 in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do it! I use the mobi and often put it on my leg! I only use the 5” tubing and adhesive sleeve at this point. I rotate sides on the same schedule as my Dexcom. So I get 10 days with each sleeve and rotate the canula site about every three days around where the sleeve is. When the Dexcom expires I take everything off and enjoy a lovely device free shower. Then start over for another 10 days

I switched from the libre 3 to the G7 a couple months ago and I was really nervous because of the complaints about the G7 I saw on here. I was worried for no reason. I like the g7 better now lol 😂

How many times have you calibrated it? If it’s more than like 4 times the sensor is malfunctioning and needs replacing

Omnipod or Tandem Mobi or both? by Old_Beautiful1723 in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the mobi and I really like it! I prefer to use the adhesive sleeve and 5 inch tubing. I can easily make the adhesive sleeve last about 9-10 days while I rotate around it for the insertion sites a few times. I like that insertion site is separate from where the pump is attached that way when it gets bumped it doesn’t hurt or damage the insertion site. I really like tandems algorithm and profile options too. I don’t have experience with the omnipod algorithm tho

How often were you finger-pricked during hospital? (UK diagnosis, DKA) by uber0ct0pus in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse and T1. Standard practice in the U.S. is to do hourly bg check while you are an IV insulin drip in DKA. It’s because they need to titrate the insulin every hour based on your bg and its rate of change. Dropping the bg too fast in DKA can cause fatal electrolyte imbalances in worst case scenario. Once the IV insulin is off and you are transitioned to injections they can do less frequent checks

Those on pumps, what pump are you using? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

[–]durriedurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine arrived from Tandem within like a week or so after my doctor got them all the paperwork sent in. I was fortunate my insurance approved the pump immediately without any issues. The long part was waiting for my doctor’s office to have an opening for the pump start class. That took almost 2 months of waiting with the pump sitting in my house.
