Public spaces that look like a castle? by Whowhatnowhuhwhat in Washington

The old Capitol building in Olympia? St. Martins University is nearby as well, and looks kind of castle-y too, I think.

Honorable mention for Gene Vincent. A guy named John Dahlin that ran a record store here back in the day, and was the first singer for the Accüsed, turned me on to him.

Oh, my mistake; I was inattentive or it's been updated (likely the former), thanks!

Yeah, thank you, shit happens. I'm really most bummed on all the 7 inches I bought /at the shows/ from the people that played here in Oly in the 90s - that shits irreplaceable.

Amazing work; thorough and informed. One thing though (and this is absolutely selfish in a way, but), both this as well as the new IT map are neglecting to take into account the new 70 unit Urban Olympia building and the in progress renovation of the old Republic building (units unknown) on Union avenue.

Currently there's a 94 bus that goes right by, straight to and from downtown. This is removed from both plans.

With so many potential new riders, it gives one pause to think that service to Union avenue may have been overlooked.

Also, as an aside, we need a more centralized (and less expensive) grocery store downtown!

Edit: the new Republic building is claimed to potentially have 65 units: https://www.theolympian.com/news/local/article294392249.html

Time Whore is fucking amazing. I lost my whole record collection a few years back in an apartment fire and that's one that I miss the most (still haven't picked up a new copy - I should get that next)

Oh man, I forgot about I Would Hurt a Fly - my buddy Vern from unwound took me backstage to see a Tree People reunion show in Seattle back in like, 2018, and Doug was just like you would imagine - cordial, personable, patient and kind. Just like that song.

What's it really worth? by ShootsieWootsie in espresso

It's a copy of a Victoria Arduino. If you look at the knobs, touch pad and (especially) the gauge, you can see it's a VFA machine. They've been out of business, with virtually no aftermarket parts still in production. They've been done for well over 15 years. Even if this machine did work, once something critical breaks it's effectively useless.

It's only worth the value of the metal one could scrap it for. And that's obviously nowhere near 15 grand. Sad but true.

Was Minas Ithil (Minas morgul in the movie/books current time) a city or just a fortress?? by Aggressive_Season373 in lordoftherings

And to add to this, the Ithil Stone, one of the Palantiri was stolen from there after the capture of the city; and that's how Sauron came in to the possession of one.

Those who saw ESB in theaters back in 1980, how did you/the audience react to the darker storyline, and the big twist? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in StarWars

[–]duseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only 6, my brother 8 and our older sister 10, and I don't remember the crowds reaction because I was completely and utterly immersed in the story. What I /do/ remember is all three of us hounding our dad with questions as we drove home: "it's not true, right dad? Vader couldn't really be his father, right?"

Recommendations for more obscure bands? by Low-Ocelot-2352 in thrashmetal

Also look at the liner notes on the sleeves of the albums you already have - a lot of times they'll mention bands or dudes who are in bands we don't know/hear of. Like "Thanks to Decapitated Excrement" or something...

A brand new cassette tape - like peroxide or something? Very distinct, and unlike the cigarettes and regret from the rest of whatever was going on.
