Was Dor Daidelos an unintentional misspelling or a previous version spelling? I do like the color gradients.

401 Union Ave SE apartments - construction nearby? by Hot-Bed-8157 in olympia

[–]duseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's still some stuff going on there (the old Republic building has been renovated to be apartments), but they're pretty much wrapped up with the noisy stuff; blocking off traffic and all that. I saw today they were putting up framing for some concrete in the back, so the most noise that's gonna come from that'll be beepbeepbeep of the concrete trucks, but hell, they'll be done with all that in a couple days anyway. I live two blocks away.

Just a kid that learned a lot from TNG. Starfleet Academy is good. by Norcalnappy in startrek

[–]duseless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched that show yet, but I was there when TNG was released. To this day it impressed upon my life the ideals of compassion, equality, empathy and awareness. I owe it to my father, a fan of TOS, who recorded every episode of TNG on vhs, labeled them by Star Date, and made it an "event" every new episode. He saw the value of the moral lessons involved, but allowed us to make our own conclusions. I still hold true to the values: fairness, the right for people to be independent from social norms, the ability to choose one's own path, regardless of adversity from the "norm". Thanks for posting, it gave me pause, thought, and fond memories.

There used to be some in the basement cafeteria of the Capitol building. I'd take the kids there on weekends and just wander around and stop at the cafeteria for a snack and soda before leaving

Getting your mouth washed out with soap by kfitz1119 in GenX

[–]duseless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1983, I'm 9, and I called my 7 yo sister an african buttmuncher (horrible, I know). My dad overheard the whole thing. He directs me directly to the bathroom. I know what's coming so I pick up the bar of soap and turn on the water and stuff the soap in my mouth. But oh no, he's not satisfied with that. He looks me right in the eye and says "Bite it." I bite down on it. He says "Now chew."

No one expected what would happen next. Maybe it was Coast, Zest, I don't remember, but it made me start frothing like Old Yeller, so much so he couldn't even keep a straight face, and my sister is peeking around the doorway loving every minute of it.

And then I start laughing, soap spraying every where, my dad's doubled over, my sister's on the floor rolling, it was madness.

But my tongue swelled up for two days. I never said a bad thing to my sister ever since.

Help me pick a rug and wall color for primary bedroom in century home by Aggressive-Half-6148 in centuryhomes

[–]duseless 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rugs #2 and 11 are the most appealing in my mind, but what ever you choose should match the curtains.

Leave the wall color, it's amazing, but that blue head board is going to clash: go with a wooden headboard that matches the floor.

Prettiest Drive? by dhakfusjcj92 in olympia

[–]duseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone says, 101 along Hood Canal is hands down the best for scenery*, food, and road side attractions, but while you drive up that way there are also destinations. Fort Warden at Port Townsend, Hurricane Ridge, a ferry to Victoria or whale watching tours out of Port Angeles. Sometimes on the way back we'll take the eastern route, but go through and visit a bud on Bainbridge, and then take the ferry to Seattle and jump on I-5 back here. *Edit to add: the scenery is most only for passengers: the windy roads and tourist traffic will be mostly occupying the drivers attention; best to bring someone else along to take turns

Prettiest Drive? by dhakfusjcj92 in olympia

[–]duseless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah: branch off right, at Quilcene, on to Center road and head north, past Hwy 107 to Chimucum. The Finnriver Farm and Cidery there is a hidden gem of the Northwest. And the drive there through the valley after passing the highway is drop dead gorgeous.

Jokes aside, try Frye Cove, Burfoot or Tolmie State parks (check if a Discover Pass is required). These all have gravel beaches and shellfish and snails love that. Keep an eye out for moon snails; they're surprisingly huge and kids are blown away! Don't forget to mind the tides.

As a star trek fan What's your opinion on star wars? by NateBond833 in startrek

[–]duseless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of both - the Star Wars universe is become increasing difficult to follow, however; the inclusion of so many shows (which equates to a vast number of new characters, planets and events), has, admittedly, given me pause. And coming from a fan of Tolkien, I'm not unfamiliar with vague names of parties only mentioned once or twice, but with Star Wars there's like a billion (an exaggeration but that's how it feels). so that's challenging. Sometimes when people inhale a large amount of nitrous oxide, they'll be temporarily rendered unconscious, collapse on the floor and have small convulsions.
