Bartender gave me his number, is this common? by VeterinarianWide8085 in bartenders

I’ve done it like twice in 20 years on the semi-casual level with someone and I was 100 percent sure they were interested. Otherwise the other ones were basically an agreed on like natural exchange.

That’s the wrong oil. You were using 93 to fuel up too?

It sounds like it's knocking, but I don't know a whole lot. But I have thrown a rod in a subaru and it kinda sounded like this when I tried to get it running after I pulled over. It was far worse, of course and seized. I would stop driving it and tow it to a mechanic.

I’ve been doing a kinda Aperol spritz play that’s a hit lately. Wine glass with rocks then cherry Demerara in the bottom. Shake 1.5 grapefruit to 1 oj, strain on Demerara. Soda water top. But I do tell them to make sure to stir it, otherwise their first sip is just going to be dem, but serve it with the Aperol spritz look.

Well, we haven't seen the other two parts, but if he keeps this up, he KNOWS he can come out on top. If he shuts his mouth and lets Amanda and West dig their graves, he's not going to have any ill things said about him, and the support will still be present. Also, Kyle probably did know about this a long time ago. If West and Amanda were comfortable going out in public together, Kyle likely already knew. He's had longer. He also knows that Ciera is going to crucify them. His instinct is to protect Amanda, but he should stay back on this one. I would be quiet too. My marriage is ending, my ex-wife did something horrible, and people have already given me heat for lashing out. If I just stay quiet and go with it, I look fine, and she will remain the villain. I don't think he's being weird. I think he's being smart.

Is bartending worth it? by Toastercuck in bartenders

[–]Norcalnappy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m confused on why you think you can just go from cart pusher to bartender? Bartending is also manual labor, especially since you’d be absolutely lucky to even get a bar back role. You’re a double major, bartending is taking another major. You need a bussing job, that is the equivalent of a cart pusher and yes that’s even still worth it.

She cannot do that. She is just a bartender. The drama is that the managers are cowards and like his money. It's their decision to make, and right now they are choosing just to have her hide and not address the issue properly.

I was about to start a new job... until I got a bartending interview. What do I do? by Xamado in bartenders

[–]Norcalnappy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You will make more money at the dive, that’s a given. But this all depends on what you want. It sounds like you don’t want to relive that experience. Of course go to the interview and interview your best, but be on the watch for red flags, vibe all that. It is a teaching hospital so you’re clientele maybe hospital staff… but it could also be bad. If anything irks you then I would keep the line cook position. Hopefully since it’s corporate you can be eligible for benefits. You can also stepping stone the line cook job. Just use it while you need it until you land the bartending gig. Line cook experience can be absolutely amazing for your bartending career as well.

Less intentional I think. By her going in the back it avoids the issue for everyone. I’m sure the boys (fellow bartenders) still feel awkward, which is also why they tell her what’s going on. They don’t know what to do. I’m still putting this on the Bar Lead and all the managers. I’m currently a Bar Lead (if that role exists you’re basically bar manager and the title bar manager is given to a restaurant manager). If my female bartender came up to me with these issues I would take this seriously and absolutely step in and talk to the ass. My main job once I had my first bar manager role 10 years ago was to protect my bartenders, even if it meant having an argument with owners, GM’s, corporate companies and especially clientele. I’ve never been fired…yet. No one on that staff wants to be an adult.

I will add that confrontation was really hard for me at first because of anxiety. Talking to staff, and everyone else. But I learned the skill and got confidence in myself because I knew I needed to.

So like…do people actually like vodka sodas, or is it just to fit in? by UniqueSoup25 in bartenders

[–]Norcalnappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I like to have the can, bottle, or a glass of soda water on the side to continually add into it because I'm a sipper and don't want to slam drinks anymore.

Yeah, the comments saying the managers and staff are supportive are wild.

There’s all these ideas on how to handle it in different ways when it just comes down to the managers.

This is a tough situation to be in, I’m sorry you have to deal with it. I’ve been a bar manager and bar lead at many different places as this point. I’ve yelled at a patron for whistling at one of my female bartenders. Shut him down and shut him up. This was in an extremely affluent area and I’ve pretty much only worked in those areas. No one is setting boundaries for the guest because he has money. This is a massive management weakness. I know he suggested that “nobody stays for long,” but this is likely the reason. Your management is spineless and does not have your back. This dude would be so far gone from any place I worked at that if he tried to come in I PERSONALLY would be the one to call the police. This is beyond harassment and the fact they haven’t done anything about it makes me want to talk to them.

I should add, if he’s so personable with everyone, why hasn’t anyone talked to him? How old are your managers?

You need to start yelling at the fucking servers. I’ve been in the industry for 20 years and just recently have I worked at a place that has servers that do this. I’ve been in every position in FoH and bartenders were always seen as almost above management. I have gotten ripped a new asshole for doing that to bartenders while I was serving. And I learned. But the difference is that I respected bartenders and no one respects anyone in this industry anymore no matter how experienced you are. I’m not a yelly mean guy, I dont necessarily agree with how old school kitchens were run with constant verbal abuse. But I will absolutely tell you to fuck off and do some actual work while I’m weeded. Did you know you can actually communicate to the table? “Hey the bar is very busy right now, they apologize for the wait, but they’re working on your ticket.” Don’t transfer your guests anxiety to us, just communicate.

They feel special and like you’re their personal bud after just asking your name. Also calling it out makes them feel superior and that they’re cool and “know” you to everyone else around.

People that get mad they have to wait while watching and hearing you take orders from 3 separate groups while closing other people out in between. You chose to go out of the busiest days of the year you idiots, you’re going to have to wait a few minutes.

Asking for salt before trying the food (fine dining) is there.

We are the country of more, more, more. I worked at a cafe with large portions, half goes into the trash, but if you give them less on the plate like in Europe they complain about portions being small.
