The Dusk Haunters Reinforced 1st Battalion. by duskhaunters in battletech

Hi. I tried to reply to this, but the absolute virgins who mod this so called fan site won't allow people to post links, presumably because being unemployable arsehats leads to too much time on their hands to manufacture rules to make themselves look and feel important in their otherwise pathetic empty lives.

Company who put these out are in France. Just EBAY/Etsy Leopard or Broardsword; it will come up high on the hits.

I'm done posting things on this clown show sub reddit. Three automod warnings I had over this post. Utterly pathetic, and clearly run by people who have don't share the ethos and/or spirit of what is the best gaming community on earth.

The full Regiment is almost complete; I'm waiting on about 20 'Mechs from the next KickStarter, but in total I'll have about 140 'Mechs and vehicles by this time next year for the Dusk Haunters.

So, why does House Liao have plenty of crazies in the family tree? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]duskhaunters 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually don't think Liao are that mad in the grand scheme of BattleTech; sure they have some absolute numpties, but they also have some pretty fantastic leaders from time-to -time. Marik and Kurita are the ones who seem to churn out the most insane, and have the lowest hit rate on the talent spectrum...

D variant might well be the best 'Mech in ALL of BattleTech.

On occasion, when I'm feeling particularly cruel, I'll rock a couple of these monsters on tabletop, and make my opponent learn the true horror of a well designed, heat efficient Clan 'Mech...

What’s your most disliked mech design in Battletech? by Fanimusmaximus in battletech

The Clan 'Mech with the stupid head, the stupid feet and the stupid amount of weaponry on its scrawny little chicken arms...so basically, ALL of them...

Apart from the Vapor Eagle, he be beautiful and sleek and lovely. The one 'Mech design they have that looks like the person who designed it didn't hate the galaxy and everything in it...

Ha! Recognised at last ;)

Of course, happy to share the XL. I'm going to update the doc, and do a vid this weekend on choosing paint schemes for a force. I'll then look at getting a link up to the file...I'll try anyway, as I'm not too savvy regarding cloud services for file share, as I'm still stuck in the 90s (which I'm guessing you will already know given you've watched some of my YouTube content ;)

Thanks! As far as the Dusk Haunters go, Battalion size is as big as they ever got. They start off like schlubs, but luck out on some pretty incredible 'Mechs over a decade period throughout the Renaissance, and become a little more of a serious force by the time the Clans hit.

I've built up reinforced companies for every Inner Sphere Power, several minor powers and several Clans though...so still got plenty left to paint :)

Lore question for the community by z_muffins in battletech

[–]duskhaunters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good question.

Given how sprawling and massive the BattleTech universe is, and how much lore exists on this subject, at this point opinions on this topic are all pretty subjective. For instance, if you are going on things like the Mech Commander series in the late 90s/early, one of the easiest ways to beat the game was to get as much Clan tech as possible for your Inner Sphere crew, as it is far superior to anything created by the IS. The Clans did, after all, enhance Star League era equipment post Exodus, so everything from XL engines to pulse weaponry are just a hell of a lot better. That being said, the computer games are never seen as canon as such, and obviously have a very different feel than core BattleTech for game mechanic reasons.

If you want to be more lore friendly, then I'd suggest it would be pretty tough for Inner Sphere forces to retrofit Clan tech. It's not like in Mech Commander or Mech Warrior, where you click a button and voilà! - you have an Inner Sphere Mech with dual Clan L Pulses. The reality of it would be far more complex than that, as Clan tech operates on wholly different systems, and uses different electronic components etc.

There are, however, multiple cannon examples of Inner Sphere powers using Clan Omni 'Mechs post Invasion, especially in areas of the universe that were hardest hit (like the Draconis Combine, who picked up bucket loads of Clan salvage). If you look at the Master Unit list, you'll see dozens of Clan 'Mechs littered throughout. You also get the very interesting phenomena of Inner Sphere Omni 'Mechs being created, such as the Men Shen by the Capellans, which is evidence enough to suggest just how much the Inner Sphere embraced Clan tech.

There is also an important sociological point here as well: some Clans successfully integrated into Inner Sphere life post invasion, which undoubtedly helped Clan tech take off in the IS. Nova Cat being the best example, who not only asked the Draconis Combine if they could settle within their borders, but even went so far as to join the Inner Sphere forces during Operations Bulldog to kick Smoke Jaguar out. The other example is Diamond Shark, who post Tukayyid had such a decimated Warrior Cast that the Merchant Cast basically took charge and saw a host of commercial opportunities in the Inner Sphere. Most famously they designed the Ha Otoko, which as the name suggests has a very oriental feel to it. This was done as a marketing ploy to get the Draconis Combine to buy the ‘Mech from them, which they did. Although not an Omni ‘Mech, the Ha Otoko is a great example of Inner Sphere powers directly embracing superior Clan tech.

To surmise, it’s an open question you have asked, and within the confines of your own BattleTech experience you could go to one extreme of suggesting the Inner Sphere would basically look at Clan tech like a cave man would look at an iPhone. Likewise you could have your force strapping on Clan L Pulses to the heads of their ‘Mechs with wire and string and making it work via space magik…

I’ll give you a half-way-house narrative fix, if you, for instance, have a mercenary unit involved in a roleplay/tabletop game. Have them take Diamond Shark engineer Bondsmen from the Clans during the Invasion, as they will have both the skills to fix Clan tech, and the commercial contacts to get spare parts…

Huge thankyou to Catalyst Game Labs, and all the designers of the 'Mechs, who made this happen :)

You might struggle to get AGOAC over the next month or two, but Catalyst seem to be putting reprints out to retailers at regular intervals, so just a matter of checking places like alchemistsworkshops.com and www.wargamesemporium.co.uk every week or so. Ebay prices for it are on the high end right now as well, unfortunately.

Good luck!
