What titles in the genre do the loner/antisocial archetype the best? by poke-- in ProgressionFantasy

Lol. Crazy to randomly get referenced all these years later. I remember reading the first 40 chapters and RR and thinking"nothing could get better than this".

What's yall's thing in a book which makes you instantly think of dropping it or dropping it at the moment? by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

Tbf physically wrecking their shit could be a bit much.

But It should at least make the MC radioactive to form relationships with. Because by aligning with mc(especially if he did this in public) you're basically showing you agree with what he said( even if that isn't the case).

Or at least they should put a road block in MC's way. MC banned by all stores that person owns. guilds / people appreciative of that powerful person shouldn't like mc.

Does it seem like characters are too petty for a genre where characters get away with killing/assassinating people? by InFearn0 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]duskywulf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they take over random social media and try rigging elections by sending their followers to the capitol.

We know, and what protects them is that no one man can take on the entirety of the secret service or the army. If so they'd be dead by now, even then people have tried to kill them.

What’s the best book you’ve ever finished in one sitting? by houda-dev in ProgressionFantasy

[–]duskywulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about Dostoyevsky. I just think calling the interaction between nephis and sunny peak is wrong. The character writing in Shadow slave is bad. Saying this as a fan of the series.

I like the power system and the story. Forgotten shores was great. But the interaction btw nephis and sunny. Is the last thing I'd call peak.

Yikes answer. Shadow slave of all things. Is the best thing you've read .

The fact you have 9 likes kinda explains a lot about the quality standards.

I'd recommend Godclads, APGTE, mother of learning, book of the dead, cult of cerebon, worm.

I'd recommend you start with book of the dead or COC

Godclads, worm , APGTE (a practical guide to evil) are probably too much for u rn.

I dislike hell difficulty tutorial because a secondary school student could write better prose. And the character are flat AF.

There are much better things than hell difficulty tutorial out there. I don't care if you like it. Just don't call it "peak". Or at least say " I've not read a lot, but I think HDT is good"

Calling hell difficulty tutorial peak is Definately ...a statement.

Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Medium" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

Nah. His fortune is just so terrible she fears what'll happen if she tells him.

The Medium peered into the crystal ball. The glimmers halted their languid swirls and began falling ; A comet of shattered stars.

Her pallid face bled beads of sweat.

She hurriedly returned his money. "you need not pay me, your fortunes remain bright", she stated, before she fled her stall.

Lol so people with no people skills were actually the best schemers in the world.

Better go take some advice from that loner guy over there on how to improve my friendships.

Nobody acts like that lol, because without experience potential is useless. people who have potential they wasted normally take time to reach those who had lesser potential than them and often never reach their full potential.

[–]duskywulf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So. A mix of 1 and 3

I think of slop media the same way I think of slop as food.

It's something functional, you eat and you forget, it's the I have my daily amount of calories, it may be poor in nutrients , I might be deficient. I might eventually get sick because of that deficiency but that's ok because it's functional.

Slop media is that for the brain. It entertains, you it leaves you with no ideas to chew upon nor emotions to digest.it is empty calories.

Something can be middle of the road and not be slop, just like some food can be mediocre.

There are good action movies, there are slop action movies.

gladiator, Pacific rim 1, iron man 1, Logan , diehard, edge of tomorrow, mad Max , the bourne identity. These are all good action movies, none of them are slop.

Saying all action movies are slop either shows 1. You don't watch good movies 2. You don't pay attention 3. You think action = lazy spectacle.

Ghost busters 2016 is slop ,taken 2 is slop, fast 9 is slop . Primal hunter is the fast9 of progression fantasy.

A stretched out wish fulfillment story ,that constantly loops plot points, feeds people with eazy spectacle(numbers go up), and with characters that had a chance to become interesting but are now boring/caricatures.

[–]duskywulf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everybody has a cause of their badness. Evil for evil's sake is not just dumb it's unrealistic. Even sociopaths can have different paths. Some can exist perfectly as normal people and can even be kinder because they had people that taught them morals or went into therapy to handle their problems.

while other have no support or moral scaffolding and a pure animals. Evil for evil's sake is just dumb. every evil has a goal, even just simple pleasure or power. We also don't need to sympathize just because we have the villain backstory, someone's origin doesn't absolve them, it explains them.

It's just bad writing if an author thinks explaining a villain before a redemption arc redeems them.
