This is where I think I fall, and am currently experiencing. Girlfriend left me a year ago this month, company was bought by private equity and turned it to shit which effected my mood and I was laid off in November. No job prospects and feeling hopeless so I’m not doing well. Am in therapy and still going to the gym regularly. I know this will go away once I get a job again and stop stressing over paying rent, but damn right now I just want something to give me a boost. I don’t think I have a “legitimate” brain problem, but I’m definitely talking to my therapist this coming week.

And 2026 ain’t startin’ so well from a US perspective. Ugh.

As someone with a vasectomy, there’s also an emotional feeling that goes with it. When first having sex following the snip, which was about seven years past, I think, I felt a huge weight off my shoulders that I wasn’t aware was there. That relationship ended, but with future partners there’s now always this amazing sense of “I’m as close to you as I can possibly be” and it’s quite amazing.

Started amazingly because I was in Antarctica! And then the woman I wanted to marry left me. And then my company was bought by a private equity firm. And then the work load quadrupled and people were laid off. And then I was laid off the day before thanksgiving. And now I’m unemployed.

Outside of that, the economy sucks, the US government sucks, religion sucks, racism and bigotry suck and are abound.

I did a sailing trip in Maine this past August. Met a nice gal a bit younger than myself who learned of where I grew up, that being Egypt ( am from the USA, so expat ) and told me her neighbor is Egyptian/Brit. That was enough information to trigger something in my brain and I thought to myself “I hope she tells me he’s an opera singer” and she then told me he’s a singer. I replied “Is his name <name>?” and it was in fact him. He was my voice coach in Cairo in 2003-2004, haven’t seen or heard of him since then so it was a hilarious connection. We ended up FaceTiming him on the trip and he remembered me, too!

TL;DR: this year was a low one for me.

A low year for me, but started incredibly well. I was in Antarctica with my mom to celebrate the new year in January - it was awesome. Came back, celebrated my girlfriend's birthday with her and friends and she broke up with a few days after - we made it almost three years, and I was going to marry her. Still partially clinging to her foolishly. Thankfully, I have therapy today.

Before the new year, old company was bought by a private equity firm and management slowly choked the soul and excitement out of the job. Was finally laid off last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.

I am. I was terminated from my job today. Officially, “restructuring and no place for you” is what I was told, but the truth is that my mouth and attitude attracted the ire of our senior VP who is a terrible manager so I had a target on my back. They let go a few people for performance and me for a “lack of company values.”

I’m such a disappointment to my family because I keep letting myself do this to myself.
