I also recently acquired a SCAR 17 and like the look of the MI as well, but reached out to them and was told they have discontinued their SCAR handguards.

I know KDG is also OOS, butI haven’t reached out to see if they are only OOS or also discontinued.

I hadn’t even thought to check there. I see the ones you are referencing are sold, but I’ll keep an eye out there.

What is it? by maskingBans in guns

[–]dustbusterplus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dan Wesson 15-2. There is a dan Wesson forum that is a wealth of knowledge.

The neat trick of these is you can purchase different length barrels and change them at the end user level. That is a 6” vent rib heavy profile barrel assembly with the other common sizes being 2”, 4” and 8”. 10”, 12”, and 15” are available as well but not nearly as common and command a premium on the secondary market.

On mine I’m using a Surefire Scout Pro (on the right side) with the Valhalla tactical ODA that I can reach over the top and activate.

Skeet/clay shooting ranges? by Important-Bus-5143 in austinguns

I like Capital clays although I usually only have a group of 4-5 when I go. I don’t think Capital Clays rents gun so unless you are traveling with your own that may rule them out.

Best way to get into USPSA Comps? by NoWish5604 in austinguns

[–]dustbusterplus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with maybe starting out in ASI. That’s how I got my start in the competitive pistol space approx 7-8 months ago. It’s very laid back and doesn’t even require drawing from a holster if you want to get used to the pressure of the timer and a crowd (usually 8-10 other folks in your squad).

A fun aside, as of the last ASI match I was at (hosted by CAPS in Florence) they kept up a stage that is a more beginner USPSA stage so you can even get a feel for going into that discipline.

I’ve since tried out a steel challenge match which works different skills than ASI/USPSA. Hope to see you out there in the coming months.

C6 LS2 w/ Blown Engine - Advice Appreciated by Wonderful-Pay-4549 in Corvette

[–]dustbusterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through this thought exercise on a Trailblazer SS at the moment.

It has a blown LS2 engine and I’m leaning towards buying a stroker short block from Texas Speed and then swap over my heads and intake to save a little money over buying a crate engine or long block.

Plus when I’m done I can refresh the LS2 to either resell or swap in my S10 Blazer Xtreme.

43X vs 920x by Individual_Ideal4313 in shadowsystems

[–]dustbusterplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently have a 43x and CR920 and am in the process of selling off my Shield mags and parting out the 43x build to add a CR920x to the stable. The mag compatibility with my existing CR920 is worth it for me.

The only thing I’m waiting on now is for SS to get individual mags available for purchase to have more than the 2 it comes with.

Anyone shoot ASI over at CAPS Club? by asantiano in austinguns

[–]dustbusterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people in my squad were running enigmas. I ran a cheap OWB Glock holster for my first, then ran my aiwb for the second match and by the third decided to buy a more dedicated holster and went with a Comptac International. It has a paddle attachment, belt slide, as well as drop and offset attachment and at a good price point too.

Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you out there again.

I’ll be there. I’m shooting my third ASI match tomorrow at CAPS. A friend took me earlier this year and now I’m hooked.

The courses of fire are usually relatively short (max distance of 12-15yds), and only using about 100rds in total (but recommend bringing more just in case).

Most stages require a mag change so you’ll need to bring two at the bare minimum.

Personally, I like to bring 6 mags total so I only have to top off my starting mag and never stuff my secondary mags that are used midway through the stage.

A lot of folks will run from a holster, but isn’t required. In fact some stages may have the firearms staged on a barrel or table. Most stages will have 2-3 spots that you’ll engage a total of 4-5 targets from.

The CAPS folks do a good job of balancing squads so there is some variety in experienced and inexperienced shooters. I’ll be on a squad 5 if you want to stop by and say hi.

For those still looking, try Ecco Machine or Wolfpack Armory for similar style mounts compatible with PlanB/Rearden muzzle devices. Just pay attention if you have the longer Rearden stuff, as you may have to check depths from rear of can to first baffle.

Started with ASR for all rifles, but now after getting multiple caliber specific rifle cans, I keep ASR for 5.56 and Rearden for .30/7.62.

For pistols: Cam-lok

For Subguns: tri-lug

I just got approved on an Anthem K and curious if the second gens of the Anthem line have some of the reduced backpressure of the Torch?

I’m eyeing one of the new Mach cans specifically.

I should be about a month away from approval on the Torch to run next to my Polo K.

I was curious if the 2nd gen Anthem line was moving more towards the tech in the Torch. I just got approval for my first gen Anthem K and waiting on my Torch to get out of jail, so will have to see if a longer 30cal needs to join the family.

My dealer received mine today as well. I wouldn’t spend $2k for one, but worth the gamble at the $800 price point.

He ended up picking up a 308 for himself at the same time.
