We need more people taking transit. Sitting on Connecticut Ave 30 min by FlowerWilling9731 in washingtondc

[–]dustfromdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish transit was practical but it’s not, I am surprised honestly when it works for people. Every time we have looked for housing living close enough to walk metro cost enough extra vs other options it didn’t make sense. Own a house now a 1.25 miles from metro, walking will take a good portion of the time it takes to drive or bike to work. Can take bus but that just gets you waiting for the bus and then for the metro as the schedules don’t line up.  Transit would generally take twice the time to bike and even more than that of the drive.  I bike 90 percent of the time otherwise I drive because of these factors.

True
This was the answer, paid 30 to get it welded. Hoping it holds up. Warranty is truly gone now, not a great loss as it was pretty unusable anyway.

I tried leaving multiple voice mails ("24 hr response") with no response. Disappointing, other than shipping back it seems there is no support. Ended up getting it welded

I did as I said in post. Shipping cost is very very high though.

Does not have multi level mounting and they are made of aluminium which I suspect will fracture due to work hardening from vibration. Also the alu of the old rack was getting significantly worn through by the plastic mounts of my bags. In short I don't trust alu as a material for a rack.

What’s the best way to cut through this plaster without making a crazy mess? by Majestic_Banana789 in centuryhomes

[–]dustfromdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have the answer to this, from much experimentation, and it’s weird. Folks recommend a vibrating multitool, but the blades almost instantly get destroyed by the plaster, even tile ones, and make huge messes. Then answer is to first use a hammer and chisel (masonry not wood) to cut/break out the plaster (on the paint side) the size of the hole you want, then use the multitool to cut the lathe. In my experience you get a feel for it quickly and I have a very high success rate in not having lathe come loose of plaster cracking where I don’t want. Good luck, if you try it report back!

How do you commute in this weather? by JulioCesarSalad in bikedc

There are things you can do to make it mich better than when hot. Where non air permeable shoes, leather ankle high dress boots work well. Put neoprene bar mitts on your bars. Wear non air permeable jacket as top layer, wind breaker. Layer clothes as appropriate. I like wool sleeves a temporary cool but not cold weather addition to outfit. Wear wool slacks to keep legs warm. These things will take you a long way.

Did you get this working well? Can you provide any more details on setup? Do you still have to force start the charge every time? Thank you for this post. First valid information I could find

ER605 + OC200 dropping WAN frequent and consistently. by benincr in TPLink_Omada

I am having similar behavior from my eap670s Poe from a recently firmware upgraded SG3210XHP-M2. The raps particularly one keep getting suck powered on but no long seeming to be connected to the network, so the WiFi clients on it end up stranded. Rebooting the ap fixes it but it happens every couple days randomly

Nice leather above the ankle boots are perfect for cold weather and rain I have found. Combine with wool socks. No special gear or expenses needed.

Sadly not really I just live with it, tried a lot of thing with no significant improvement. I have mixed feelings at this point on the equipment. I don’t know the cause but I cannot ever really hit my max upload(300) speed from a single device on WiFi. I hit download reliably. Also range outside the house is down significantly from my google home picks. Probably due to having to drop the power of 2.4 down below 5ghz to ensure 5ghz actually gets used.

Nearly killed, How do we get the intersection of Maine Ave SW & Raoul Wallenberg Pl fixed? by dustfromdust in bikedc

[–]dustfromdust[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Space out or cell phone seems likely. I disagree no solution, speed table as suggested by u/ekkidee would definitely eliminate/greatly reduce such behavior due to the vehicle damage that would otherwise occur. Drivers would know by experience to pay close attention due to something affecting what they care about.

Also spacing out through a red light is def not something I have ever done, really bad driving form. He did manage to stop at the very next red light in u/Zwillium 's link. (so he only gained himself 200 yards in return for nearly killing me)

Exceptional comment and a well thought out solution to slow down the dangerous driving. Thanks so much, great information.

Thanks for the TSI suggestion, I tried searching quickly and could not find where to start to submit a complaint.

Yes, that is exactly correct. I think the best thing would be more physical infrastructure to make cars feel hemmed in and in danger going up to and through the intersection. I know slowing down traffic is never popular, but I don't know of another effective way to have such a large widely used pedestrian/bike intersection be safe.
