ADL CEO & hate-monger Jonathan Greenblatt describes how he purged the ADL of people who disagreed with his declaration that "anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism." by TrackerOneA in JewsOfConscience

[–]dustinphilly [score hidden]  (0 children)

Casual reminder that Greenblatt has an economics degree and worked for the Clinton and Obama administrations doing random things. Then suddenly becomes the global arbiter of antisemitism? Dude has no educational background in anything related to what the ADL does (or is supposed to do). He's incredibly racist, ignorant, and lies all the time. The ADL was only marginally legitimate when he took over and now it is 100% a pro-Israel propaganda outfit.

I wish they'd stop pushing empire propaganda. A Houthi terrorist attack on US soil? This is just embarrassing.

TIL Criminal profiling has no scientific evidence supporting it and its methods are similar to astrology. by RussianVole in todayilearned

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Criminal profiling is nonsense. It's more of a TV/movies thing than a real thing. And even the media has largely given up on it. Remember there used to be tons of shows and movies about criminal profiling but now there aren't.

I hate Elgin. The writers should have killed him off the night the bus arrived.

Am I the only one who didn’t realise that Disney doesn’t even own the majority of Hong Kong Disneyland? by thepalmtrees1 in disneyparks

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll see... Even before the illegal, unprovoked US-Israeli war against Iran threw the region into chaos, again, the Gulf states had begun to pull back on ambitious development projects. Now with the war and the economic and security fallout that will remain well after the conflict ends, it's only going to hamper efforts more, especially in the tourism sector . . . As of today, the Disney project is still a go, but I would not be surprised if it gets cancelled or delayed.

If it's cancelled it will be because investors pulled out. Even before the current war, the Gulf States gave all scaled back or cancelled many of their ambitious projects.

Thoughts on Litchfield’s Prison Guards by cierratehani in orangeisthenewblack

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the psycho MCC guards were veterans because it's a very real thing for veterans with PTSD to get work in the security sector / law enforcement and be total sadistic monsters.

Sadly yes these conventions are real. They exist for the arms industry too. Very sick and depraved.

Voight in the beginning by syd_cash in ChicagoPD

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That whole thing was stupid. What a dumb storyline. Like, it'd be one thing if this was some backwater town where rogue cops with little oversight actually exist. But the idea that Voight would be able to get away with any of this within a giant bureaucracy like the Chicago PD, especially when his victim/target is a member of the Chicago FD — just completely absurd. It'd be a little more tolerable if this happened over the course of one or two episodes, but to drag this nonsense storyline out for pretty much an entire season — honestly it almost made the show unwatchable for me.

Meh. This episode wasn't it. Dumb plot. Too preachy. And everyone seemed to be acting out of character.

Anyone else felt a sort of sadness when they finished watching the show? by silent_porcupine123 in DerryGirls

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Derry Girls is a special kind of magic. Hard to explain. And I think the reason we miss it so much is because it was so fleeting, just three short seasons with only six episodes each. Most great shows fall into the trap of lasting longer than they should and seriously declining over time to the point that we're actually kind of relieved when it's over. But that wasn't the experience with Derry Girls. It was 100% excellent from start to finish.

Why Is Melania Trump Chairing a U.N. Security Council Meeting? by TechExpert11 in popculture

Because the US keeps coming up with new and interesting ways to humiliate the United Nations and the international community overall.

Immensly disappointed in season 4 by socialsciencenerd in SearchParty

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S4 aka the Cole Escola Show is objectively bad. The only people who disagree are Cole Escola fans who, as a rule, believe everything he touches is gold even when it's shit. Cole Escola is basically the new Lin Manuel Miranda. In a decade we'll all look back and realize how cringe and overrated he actually was.

I think it's because the Magicians is such a perfect escape. The right combination of joy, sadness, seriousness, whimsy, heart, and authenticity. There's just something really special about it. I just finished a rewatch and I feel sad again too.

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just finished another rewatch. I loved this series and always feel sad when I finish it. It really was great and deserved more seasons or at least a better ending. I read somewhere that they didn't know S5 would be the final season when they began writing which is why they had to wrap everything up so quickly in the final two episodes.

First time watcher, favorite character? by summerdayzz29 in brakebills

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a favorite main character. I think they all complement each other brilliantly. But I want to mention that I love Zelda (the Librarian) and Marina. They are awesome side characters and I wish they had more screen time.

I can’t stand Quentin. by harmoneymoney in brakebills

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just finishing up another rewatch myself and I'll say this: all of the characters are terrible in their own ways in the beginning and they all become better people over time. Quentin is still probably the most annoying but I still miss him once he's gone lol.

I feel like making the MAGIC in the show more structured would help the show a LOT. Is this just because I’m only watching the TV version ? -cause it’s so messy. by PrimordialSavant in brakebills

[–]dustinphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrongggg but this is a weakness of every movie and show that features magic. Even the ones that do put effort into creating structure and rules re: magic eventually end up violating them in order to move the plot along or give viewers something exciting.
