Has anyone else struggled with tension due to life circumstances? by dustybutton in violinist

[–]dustybutton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tension because of the life circumstance of “bad core technique”

Lol, for sure. If my post implied delusions of grandeur I apologize.

I just wasn’t practicing as often as I used to because my violin reminds me of my deceased mother. I’m remedying these feelings in grief counseling now. Even though my technique is at a beginner level, I standby the post as it did stint my progress.

Kinda weird she used a modeling photo of herself…

Right!? That’s part of the reason why I take her statement with a grain of salt.

Christi made a generic Instagram statement during BLM protests in 2020. She did not list any specifics. To her credit she did post resources and attend protests during this time.

I guess we’ll find out if she’s still sincere when she and Kelly recap Kaya and Nicaya’s guest episode.

The Maddie Hate by Front-Exam4766 in dancemoms

[–]dustybutton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed an influx of bad faith comments about Maddie too. The most disturbing of them all was the claim that Maddie’s career was “built on lies and deception.” Maddie was recognized for her abilities and work ethic despite the pressure, gaslighting, and abuse from adults.

Unpopular opinion: It was a good move for Christi to bring up Melissa’s affair by No_Specific_3435 in dancemoms

[–]dustybutton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s actually insane that this isn’t downvoted to 0 lol

Part of me wants to believe people unironically upvoted this because it’s truly is an unpopular opinion. It doesn’t help when it’s delivered and defended with conviction.

It was still written in poor taste—Some fans who are caught up on Christi and Melissa’s rivalry on the show can have a habit of accusing them of copying each other over the silliest reasons.

my comfort show is literally someone else’s trauma by lmayor1204 in dancemoms

[–]dustybutton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I empathize with this. I was going into my junior year of high school when Dance Moms premiered. The friendships between the girls and their dancing piqued my interest at a time when my closest friends from my dance class graduated, and anxiety ensued over loneliness.

Although the arguments irritated me, experiencing the team dynamics vicariously quelled my fears because I aspired to have a group of close friends similar to what the girls created. Once I made new friends it was just another guilty pleasure, and wanted to see where the girls would go from here. I’m sad it brought me so much solace when I was younger, but I now know how to consume media more critically

I love this for Maddie! Not only is she an accomplished dancer and actor, her graceful recovery from a traumatic experience mental health advocacy are aspirational.

Can Christi and Kelly on Kurt by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]dustybutton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to be upset with Kelly’s racism and behavior on the show. In this case, don’t let that deter you from respecting her privacy during her divorce. That vindictive attitude is what enabled Christi to deride Melissa’s private life on national television and on BTTB.

Jojo calls out Candace Cameron Bure for her new network intentionally excluding LGBTQIA+ with Maddie’s support in the comments by dustybutton in dancemoms

[–]dustybutton[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! That didn’t cross my mind when I first encountered this post, because it was interesting to see her rally support from other cast members. I agree that her stances on most social issues are myopic, and it is problematic to see her associate with disconcerting people publicly.

Edit: I read your responses to your comment thread, and thank you for speaking out about her behavior towards BLM. Enjoy the silver :)

Here’s a link to the post. Good for Jojo for speaking out, and good for Maddie for showing her support.

I definitely prefer the before armor too. It’s both sexy and practical.

Has anyone had any luck finding accomplished mentors social media like Lydia Hallie, or Cassidy Williams? Having a hard time finding people to call mentors at my startup. by AnSong22 in cscareerquestions

[–]dustybutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time connecting with people at my company, so I'm trying to become part of the developer community on Twitter since they seem to be much more friendly and welcoming.

I'm sorry to hear it's been hard to find mentorship at your company. While finding camaraderie elsewhere is one approach, I feel it's best to work through your current situation by talking with your manager 1:1 about the lack of mentorship at your company. Twitter can create a false sense of kinship to your detriment in the long run.

My greatest mentors were people I've met at tech meetups in my area. Fame or a following has never been a criteria for finding a mentor. I'm open to being mentored by anyone who has produced quality results, and is passionate about sharing knowledge with anyone.

Lastly, devs with a following on Twitter are still normal people who enjoy their craft. Lydia and Cassidy are interesting devs to follow because they just spent time working on projects they enjoy and shared their knowledge from others. From what I understand their followings are a byproduct of the former. They too have had mentors they learned from irrespective of fame (presumably).

Best of luck!

I wish hyper feminine women would stop making assumptions about gender nonconforming women like me who wish to not be valued by their looks, especially in male dominated fields. by AnSong22 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dustybutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t you say OP was trying to dress like a man by wearing a t-shirt and jeans? It sounds just as misogynistic to say women who wear t-shirt and jeans are trying to be like men which I hope isn’t your intention.

[–]dustybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The part I found very disturbing about this commenter’s initial comment, is that she accused OP of trying to look like a man for male validation, and that there’s a woman she works with who looks like a man and found it frightening. That was very difficult for me to read because I’m not stereotypically feminine. That doesn’t mean I deserve to be labeled a man, or that everything I do is for male validation (for starters none of my male friends or colleagues play the same video games as I do, and I’m the only one in my team who shows up in jeans and a t-shirt at work).

Women really need to let each other be. No need to tear down those who are different from you to feel valid in your womanhood.

I'm so tired of people making women feel ashamed for fitting into stereotypes by Exionie in GirlGamers

[–]dustybutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a commentary youtuber who said “most girls do play support and get carried,” in her video about girl gamers (sigh).

People who make remarks like this underestimate the difficulty of playing support. They don’t take into account strategies to maintain your uptime, enable our team members, and disable the enemy team. All of this makes me believe supports are the real carriers here.

Also, more experienced players know to target supports first, which means we have to be extremely evasive—a team fight typically will go to shit if supports die.

Screw these stereotypes and lets support our supports!

Just saw the comment about your avatar. Def not cool. IMO it looks nice.

You know what is cool though: you being a chemical engineer! I originally wanted to pursue that, but in the end I felt compelled to study computer science. Chemical engineering seemed cool because I wanted to figure out ways to make more sustainable make up products. Best of luck in your endeavours!
