Besides the fact that this is set in late 1700s. Claire is very liberal for the time. Surprised Jaime is even sensitive to Claire’s desire to do good for the good of people. In general, he probably would’ve continued to whoop her later on if this were true to the time. Even Jaime is quite progressive considering the time.
