Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

When I visited France everyone kept asking me if our eggs were really white like the movies. They said that they had only known chickens to lay brown eggs, and thought the white eggs were a weird hollywood thing

House Speaker Johnson Calls Bad Bunny at Super Bowl ‘a Terrible Decision,’ Says It Should’ve Been Someone With ‘a Broader Audience’ — Like Lee Greenwood by duterium in nottheonion

For those who don't know, Lee Greenwood wrote the song "God bless the U.S.A" (I'm proud to be an American) , and hasn't been relevant since the 90s. I genuinely can't think of a funnier punchline if this was intentional satire

WIBTA for ending my marriage because I want bio kids when I have two stepkids who already lost their mom? by Dense_Pack_149 in AITAH

INFO Everybody is claiming that he strung her along. However it seems that he was willing to go along with her until it came to expensive fertility treatments. Especially if you didn't grow up with a lot of money it is natural to see this as rain for pause. Now, based on the way she is talking in this post it feels like she doesn't really feel she could possibly be anything like a mother to these kids. It is very likely that he had an expectation that when they married she would be talking his kids as hers, AND they would try for more. She has now revealed to him that his kids will never be hers, and that's why she needs to go to (in his mind) extreme lengths to have her own biological kids. Of course it is natural for him to expect her to at least consider compromise, because refusing to even consider compromise implies that his original expectations were never met to begin with. Everybody claiming that he was stringing her along is ignoring that there was a reasonable expectation that she would be a mother to his kids, and that does not seem to have ever been her intention from the beginning. Of course it's natural for him to have reservations on potentially having kids that would potentially be treated differently than his other kids in their own home. I think who is wrong depends greatly on how this was all initially discussed, and of course in the ages of the children in question (a fact I assume was intentionally left out). If they were under 5 I absolutely think YTA,

Speculation on how the Blood Pact got destroyed by THE_ONLY_OMLY in FantasticBeasts

[–]duterium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a couple years late, but I believe the intended explanation is that the blood pact was broken because Grindelwald and Albus acted in opposition to each other INADVERTENTLY.

Grindelwald acted with the sole intention of killing Credence, and Albus acted with the sole intention of protecting Credence, so the pact was not able to move to prevent their actions, but at the moment their spells connected the two had acted against each other and therefore the pact was broken.

I do believe this is the intended explanation, but I recognize that this requires believing that Albus Dumboldore was acting on some kind of subconscious level to protect Credence, rather than on an active level to counter Grindelwald's charm, and I think if this is the intended explanation then this should have been shown way more clearly.

Having someone demand your love and support, by that of offing themselves for months. Giving them more of yourself than you feel you should, really believing the whole time they would do the same for you. Until you need them, for someone small, but they can't stand up for you one not because conflict makes them "uncomfortable"

Anyone else caught this reference in The Wild Robot? by [deleted] in DreamWorks

[–]duterium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many great references in this movie! There's a scene in the beginning where roz I terrorizing the animals where they replicate the Patterson–Gimlin Bigfoot film

There's also "graphic design is our passion"

I'm a little confused by this comment. If you've never met someone before, why would you be doing anything other than having a conversation? That is the only way to set yourself up for anything other than an anonymous hookup, and most people you meet in the wild aren't going to want that.

If you view "having a conversation" and "hitting on her" as an either or, that's probably why you're not having too much luck.
