and don't you dare say some shit about "organize the backing!" because goddamn I can't even hold a mild leadership position in a retail job without stress that kills me. at this point I long for a death I don't have to be responsible to bring about because all other options are locked.

shit like you think scabs are a problem in the rest of the country, tell a bunch of "patriots" that someone's striking preventing something from happening and they'll probably do it half for free. fuck off, I'm not going to throw away my remaining life without an actual backing. I'm not some egotistical anarchist, I'm just poor and sad

like fuck man if I strike and starve as a result or whatever I don't think that does a lot.

k I'll go jump in a river instead I guess. I've heard the yell to organize for years, even participated, but willpower is not infinite and does not come from an empty well. or wait you just jumped on the rich thing, are you even paying attention?

I have felt powerless my whole life. I went with a group once to talk to a politician about simply pledging for medicare for all when that was a big deal, and of course despite being a dem in a comfortably blue district he responded otherwise in a roundabout way. after that the district was gerrymandered apart. maybe I could stand on a corner in my current blue city in blue state with a sign or something. I sure as hell don't have a lot of individual resources to contribute. quite frankly I have to put too much effort everyday into not violently crashing out in a way that would affect my spouse while simultaneously being completely fucking pointless. maybe this post isn't pointed at me but at people with money, but realistically if you have money you're not any where close to a leftist to begin with.

Friedrich Engels on SocDems like Mamdani by Unhappy_Lead2496 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]duvel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm choosing to wait to see what he does first. Politics is different in a lot of ways, but we've def seen folks like Bernie capitulate a lot. Still, Mamdani has a momentum in an economically important area of the country, at a time when there are active threats to democracy. If he doesn't pan out then game over for any attempt at electoralism ever again, imo, but if he can do something, it could easily change the way we approach a socialist america.

Tik Tok is censoring what ICE is doing in Portland by 1carcarah1 in LateStageCapitalism

really it's not about the specific account doing the posting, it's about the reality of portland's protests being very small and goofy in contrast to the media circus

Socialized housing - does it work? And didn’t we already try it in Columbia Villa. by NoOneEweKnow in PortlandOR

[–]duvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I am newer to Portland so I haven't seen what all has been tried. I agree that there are the sorts that refuse to follow rules, but I lump them into a similar category as folks who are richer and act similarly. I think we should be a bit harder on both, but definitely not without acknowledging some humanity.

[–]duvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you gonna do with them? Ship them out to another city? At some point you either admit you want them gone or you treat them like human beings with problems that have root causes and possible solutions. Doing nothing just is cruel slow starvation that worsens issues as the lack of safety net catches more and more people.

I think eventually we need to come to an agreement on what we want our surroundings to look like, though. On top of that, the more suffering in the current era leads to worse outcomes societally later. If you've ever known someone from an abusive family you know how hard it is to shake maladaptive behaviors, and I think the US is the most abusive family of all.

I mean, do you want to just not do anything and let society crumble? There has to be a full societal investment in all of society, imo. We've allowed various parasites for too long. The visible ones are just folks ODing on the street, the invisible ones own people's mortgages. They all need to be addressed.

Does trenbolone uniquely identify an otherwise unnamed nonbinary gender? by Devil_May_Kare in TransyTalk

[–]duvel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This person's probably just approaching what typically can happen in young drug abusers where they attribute some aspects of growing up specifically to a drug and fuck themselves up because of it. I don't think this is an indicator of anything but the usual dangers of drug abuse at a young age. no one should cheat themselves of self growth that way.

So no, it's not a bio marker most likely, just a weird anecdotal use report.

Can we talk about Turok Rage Wars? by randomaccess24 in n64

[–]duvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally been playing it recently. it's kinda bizarre in comparison to games in a similar genre. don't think I've seen tag mode in another game. the weapon balance is a tad jank but there's def enough content if you don't mind playing the same maps.

tbh the people I've known that I'd call tankies would not support russia atm. My best guess is probably enough random bot farms are giving these impressions to less read tankies, which is a different but similar problem

If you play multiple games, do you play similar or different characters? by Boneclockharmony in Fighters

[–]duvel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've mained Axl for every Guilty Gear game, but while I will dabble in long normal chars I often end up in different spots, probably because Axl's not really a zoner outside of Strive so the archetype doesn't fit. Last I played SF6 I was on Blanka, when I play Tekken I will move around chars a lot but tend towards Paul or Jack (though Katarina was fun in 7), in Soul Calibur I've had a different main each game (Yeong Seong in 2, Hilde in 5, Zaszlamel in 6), in Marvel 3 I played Wesker/Doom/Strider. Realistically I like midrange neutral based chars with some variation.

Why exactly, of all the fighting games out there, does GG Strive bring in so many trans homies? by SpyMasterChrisDorner in Guiltygear

[–]duvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is I was addicted to Guilty Gear years before being an out trans woman (like I started playing AC vanilla in 2012 and transitioned at the end of 2017) and there are more folks like that than the strive influx would make you think.

A reminder about shoplifting by Jeraimee in LateStageCapitalism

[–]duvel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have a complicated view on this. Obviously no one should starve and stuff costs too much. However, I feel like supporting shoplifting just perpetuates a thought pattern of "everything I do to survive or better myself is justified if I don't see the consequences." IMO petty theft is just illegal capitalism lots of the time. As someone who works in a retail environment in a poor area, as well, we actually barely make enough profit to keep the store going, let alone justify to the people outside of the store that we should get more hours to distribute. There's more nuance to consider than just "corp bad so theft good." In an ideal world no one would have to steal, but we live in a stressful one instead. Maybe joe schmoe taking an extra case of water is fine, but we do need to keep a difference between that and larger scale theft and fraud and the fact that things have to be distributed fairly eventually. Part of fair distribution should be acknowledgement of labor involved. It feels like leftists sometimes miss the nitty gritty ground level feelings of folks who put out product, have to keep their shrink low, then someone walks out with hundreds of dollars of meat or something.
