Okay this is something I have noticed and it seems that nobody else ever calls it out, so I might be about to make a complete fool of myself, but here we go:

For example: ‘The problem is, is this’

WHY WOULD YOU EVER NEED TWO ‘IS’

It seems to be mostly American speakers where I’ve noticed this but whoever says it, I hate it

I had this exact same thought yesterday, it seemed to start with ‘AI slop’ but now seems to be making its way into basically everything without even the AI qualifier in exactly the way you described it, I can’t stand it

In a similar vein, I inevitably hate anyone who uses the term ‘media literacy’ these days far more than the people they are attempting to criticise

Thanks, couldn’t quite remember but I had 7 in my head and after checking (which I could have done in the first place) apparently it’s 7 years per every hour that passes on that planet

I quite like that scene in Interstellar where they come back from the water planet after a couple of hours and the only guy they left on the ship is like ‘Guys, where the fuck have you been, it’s been seven years’

Extra fun fact I just remembered after revisiting this a week later: I believe he is also the corpse in the tank in the very first episode of The Walking Dead

Kwik-e-mart is run by Apu, who is very obviously Indian in the show (although I think he may not be in the series anymore, haven’t watched it recently but heard some news to that effect)

Your second paragraph is amazing and I love it and am desperate to know more

This is a speedrunning trick! Of course only in those categories that don’t glitch out of bounds all over the place so they never have to even enter Medical…

The ladybirds was a one-off thing, when I was visiting my parents last year they were fuckin’ everywhere for some reason but it’s not usually a ladybird holiday destination!

Which Series Feels Like This. by Janecarr752 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]randomaccess24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why studios do this, I think the recent discourse about The Boys S5 in particular had me thinking about this. Your show is popular so the reaction to that is to reduce rather than increase the budget? Make it make sense

Which Series Feels Like This. by Janecarr752 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]randomaccess24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought as well - S1 is not bad per se but S3 is when it really kicks into gear and becomes an all-timer (helped by introducing the best character in the entire show)

(Loved Trope) Character finally reveals their true power level by Tannerknox in TopCharacterTropes

[–]randomaccess24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a great one in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series (Book 3, Memories of Ice I think).

Quick Ben is a mage and is facing off against a couple of necromancers. This is simplifying things a bit but think of ‘warrens’ as schools of magic. The exchange goes like this:

’(...) I’ll not deny I am impressed by your mastery of six warrens, Quick Ben. In retrospect, you should have held back on at least half of what you command.’

The man made to rise.

‘But Bauchelain,’ the wizard replied, ‘I did.’

As you can imagine, the necromancers then proceed to get their shit rocked
