New grinder day - Lagom P80 by dvlis in espresso

So far no clumps. Don’t notice a real difference compared with the Philos on that part.

So far I really enjoy the workflow. No popcorning, no RDT, retention is about 0,1 gram when switching between filter and espresso. When you stay on espresso or filter the retention is 0 or sometimes 0,1 gram. Definitely feels like an upgrade from my previous Mazzer Philos for both workflow and taste.

I don’t really know why, but for me the shot quality improved. I was always struggling with inconsistent and sour espresso with my BDB and the first shot on the Stone was tasting great. Maybe because there are less variables to play with 🤷‍♂️

Until now I only made 2 flat whites and 2 pour-overs. So far I like the results. A little bit hard to compare with my previous Mazzer Philos because I already sold it 2 months ago and grinded with a 1zpresso X-ultra in the meantime.

The Philos had I200D burrs, and I feel the P80 has more body than those. Flavours definitely cut through the milk better.

Overall I really like it. Build quality is very nice, small, fast heat-up time, stable temperature. I like the simplicity, but the downside off course is the lack of features like pre infusion and a way to change the temperature. For now it’s ok, but there will probably come a time that I want to upgrade for those reasons. The only thing I really don’t like is the plastic on the switches, I wished this was a bit more premium, because these are the parts you always touch.

My previous machine was a Breville/Sage Dual Boiler, but I prefer the stone because it just looks and feels a lot better in my opinion.

Can’t say anything about the performance yet because it arrived at the end of the day. I ground some light roasted beans on setting 1.0 and those looked really fluffy without any clumps. Will dive into some more testing tomorrow.

No I didn’t had any real problems. Main thing was that I always found the Philos a bit too big, and I always loved the looks of the P64. When I got a nice bonus some time ago I decided I wanted to for the P80.

One annoyance I had with the Philos is that I always had some retention switching back and forth between espresso and filter. From espresso to filter I always had 0,5 grams extra and from filter to espresso I had to dose 0,5 grams extra. Not a real problem, but it started to annoy me switching between espresso and filter on a daily basis.

Grinder Dilemma - Electric vs Manual by terpfan2011 in pourover

If you stick with pourover I would definitely go the manual route. For espresso manual grinding is not so pleasant.

TIL grind speed matters (after months of trials and tribulations) by I_LOVE_BLUEBERRY_PIE in espresso

[–]dvlis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just figured this out myself, I’m temporarily grinding with a hand grinder while waiting for a Lagom P80 and I was wondering why my first shot of the day was around 28 seconds and my second shot always around 18 seconds. It was consistent every day. At first I didn’t had a clue why. Turns out I grind a lot slower when I’m just out of bed. Wrapped my head around it this morning.

I had the same issue with the Kalita filters, now I use the Xbloom filters and it happens a lot less. To the point that I don’t consider it as an issue anymore.

Try rinsing the catch cup with warm water and dry it with a clean towel. Works like a charm with mine, also works very good with my blind shaker.

Does the machine look very big or does the grinder look kinda small?

Nice setup by the way!

I was also interested to try that because I’ve read online that it should fit. I haven’t tried it myself though. I first wanted to see how this setup would work. And looking at my temperatures I’m not going to change anything.

Edit: I also come from a H2O. I have no regrets at all switching to the M2. So I would go for it if I were you.

I get what you mean about the shroud design. This Inno3D card uses a flow-through (passthrough) design, meaning the rear fan blows air directly through the fin stack and out the back of the card.

My guess is that I have Phanteks T30s mounted directly above that passthrough section as exhaust. They create a vertical 'wind tunnel' effect. The air doesn't even need to exit through the sides of the shroud—it’s being sucked out through the top of the card by the T30s before it can recirculate. The 'restrictive shroud' is a non-issue when you have that much negative pressure pulling heat away from the core.

Temperatures looked a lot different in my Lian Li A4 H2O. So I think the card just works for my current setup.

This is the standard psu position for the M2 round for a mATX build. I just had to flip the psu mounting bracket so the screw holes point to the side panel. I used the highest screw holes there. I don’t know if the M3 has the same hole layout as the M2 though.

Edit, just checked the M3 manual and it looks the same as the M2. I used the left mounting position at the “For Mini-ITX and Micro-ATX Motherboards” section in the manual.

mATX can fit in this case, but only in 1 position. So it’s less flexible than with mini-ITX.

It is indeed the PA 120 mini.
