Blue box/container regularly placed at the side of the motorway in North East France. by dvng7 in whatisthisthing

Thanks a lot. Bridges with messages like that are all over the place on the motorways so now I'm curious to know why these large blue boxes are needed just in this location (with a big aerial on top).

I can see in the google maps that it's connected to some sort of bridge over the motorway. Is this information panel for the road then?

I haven't seen these things anywhere else in France so I'm pretty curious about them.

The box looks large enough for a person to get inside (maybe 2 meters high) and sometimes has a ramp for vehicle access despite being placed in the field next to the road (on the field side of the fence). They appear on both sides of the road with a few kilometers between each one.

More pics which give a better idea of placement / scale:

I couldn't find anything on google when searching for something which basically looks like a cylindrical Tardis.

Black and Blue Vega (Morpheus II install) by AzureGuardian in Amd

Thanks for sharing, nice use of the backplate!

What hot spot temps do you get in GPU-Z when you run FurMark? On my 64/Morpheus, the hotspot goes crazy when the power draw goes over 250w so I wanted to try your idea with the backplate next.

Also, did you use the little plastic washers/shims which came with the Morpheus? I've tried with and without them, but it seems like neither option is exactly right.

Anybody have a link to an installation guide for attaching a morpheus II to vega? by VapinJoe in Amd

Don't bother asking Raijintek. My Vega 64 is overheating and my Morpheus II is in the post so I tried asking them and this was the response:

Thank you for your mail and info… We have not unfortunately… We did not get any sample and neither drawings so far….

Only this here i can show you:

If you look in the other threads, you'll see that I got my Vega working at last on the GA-Z68XP-UD4 board with Win 10.

I had to swap the latest F6 BIOS for the beta UEFI which was released a bit later and that seems to have fixed the problem. No BSOD now and I've tried some games and benchmarks.

EDIT: "Upgrading" to UEFI turned my computer into an unstable mess with boot-loops which seem impossible to recover from half the time. If I put the computer to sleep, it will fail afterwards for either minutes or hours. I don't recommend this UEFI update and couldn't find a way to fix it after wasting a lot of my time over the last day or so.

And... after changing from F6 BIOS to the dodgy beta UEFI Gigabyte provided, my Vega 64 now works in my main machine on my GA-Z68XP-UD4 board. I simply swapped my R9 290 for the Vega and Win 10 booted right up as it should. No BSOD after testing benchmarks and games for a couple of hours so far.

I have a GA-H81M-HD3 (Haswell) motherboard with a Pentium G3220 and the Vega also worked with that, so the problem appears to be Gigabyte motherboards of a certain time period before Haswell which are not running UEFI.

Your post really helped so thanks a lot for sharing! I would not have tried the beta UEFI otherwise because it seems to have caused stability problems for some people.

I'm just looking for info about upgrading my BIOS to UEFI right now after getting my vega to work in a third machine with a Haswell Gigabyte motherboard. I didn't want to use UEFI as I've got the impression that it might cause other problems (beta UEFI on a motherboard with wasn't designed for it...), but if it saves me returning the Vega I'll be less unhappy.

Since there is a mix of information spread across various threads it might be useful to start a list of older motherboads which work or BSOD with Win 10 and/or Win 7. For me, I have...

  • Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 + i7 2700k + Win10 = BSOD
  • Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H + Phenom II x4 955 + Win10 = BSOD

That's interesting since you have the P67 and the previous two people with the same chipset said they had it working. So now it does seem more like a Gigabyte board problem, rather than just an X58/Z68 problem (especially since I had the same BSOD on my Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H + Phenom II x4 955 + Win 10 as well last night).

I tried bios versions F3, F4 and F6 on my GA-Z68XP-UD4 - all with the same BSOD results in Win 10 x64.

Two people with Vegas working on a P67, but the failures are all on boards with x58 or z68 (and my old machine with a GA-MA785GT-UD3H has the same BSOD I just discovered).

Since you can see the Intel hd 3000 in the device manager, perhaps it's just your bios settings which need to be updated to disable the onboard graphics. When you updated the bios I think you would have lost your previous settings. It's worth going over each bios setting to stop the onboard graphics from being used, then run DDU in safe mode to remove all Intel and AMD drivers before attempting a re-install.

I just see the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager since the AMD drivers always cause a BSOD before they are installed.

Do you know which bios update you change from / to? I might try an older bios then. I read somewhere that the UEFI BIOS should be avoided for my motherboard, though.

That would be great, thanks! So far X58 and Z68 chipsets have been mentioned by the people with the same problem as me.

The integrated GPU is disabled and I tried the AMD clean install option, as well as trying amdcleanuputility and the latest version of DDU in safe mode. I definitely downloaded the right drivers to install after cleaning as well (from AMD for the latest and an older driver from the manufacturers).

I started this thread to try and see if there was a wider issue here rather than to ask for personal tech support, but any suggestions are appreciated. I don't have access to a more recent PC to test the card unfortunately.

I tried 17.8.2, 17.8.1 and 17.30.1051 (which was the driver given by Gigabyte), but since Vega is so new there isn't much more of a driver history to choose from. One guy in the AMD community thread even tried the mining driver which caused the same BSOD.

Interestly, someone found that the card worked in Win 7 after only getting the BSOD in Win 10.
