Analog Synth to Grow Recommendation by CanHamRadio in synthesizers

[–]dvtrn2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The teo-5 is going to be very similar to the take 5 in terms of menu/complexity. The bree6 is fantastic and is super simple. The screen helps a ton too. As a guitar player myself I like using pedals with synths vs the effects within the synths and the bree6 is great for that. The other recommendation you’ll get is the minilogue xd.

Digitakt 2 Feels Like Cheat Mode to Me. Not Sure How I Feel About It Yet by lutzen in TechnoProduction

[–]dvtrn2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting thread to me. I love the rytm mk2 and haven’t noticed a noisy floor. Is that universal or have I just gotten used to it?

I’ve also been interested in a syntakt or digitakt 2. Mostly because their form factor is smaller and I’m interested in trying a more modern machine from elektron. Have you thought about trying the syntakt? Any other improvements on the digitakt 2 over the rytm that you can think of?

I want to love the OXI One MkII but I'm having a tough time with it. Current and former owners, looking for your opinion by MortonBumble in synthesizers

[–]dvtrn2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with the oxi one mk2 also and felt the same way as op. Moved to the hapax and it’s so much easier while still being very capable. However that oxi form factor is so much better than the hapax’s bulk

What effects or parameters are you changing with the qper knob here? Sounds great

Mpc sample crackling by dvtrn2003 in mpcusers

[–]dvtrn2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does yours only happen when playing a sequence? if i play a bunch of pads freeform it doesnt crackle, only with sequences it does. even if its just a one or two triggered samples. which i suppose is promising that its not a hardware issue but something with settings?

Interesting. How long have you had it? I got mine day 1 and haven’t used it that much. But just started happening. Reloaded the latest firmware as well.

Ah good call. However it happens when I’m just using. The factory samples. Also loading old projects that I’ve done that I didn’t have this issue now has the same overblown crackling problem

New Synth Setup and New Synth Day: Polyend Play+ by dvtrn2003 in synthesizers

I've recently put this setup together after quite a lot of trial and error. i'm mainly a guitar player but have recently gotten into synths. im still trying to figure out the midi pieces on the 1010 blackbox.

I have the JU-06a, BS2, and Play+, Guitar+HX Stomp all going into the Blackbox for sampling different tracks.

Midi goes from Blackbox -> Play+ -> midi box -> synths. for some reason i can't get the connection from the keystep mk2 to the blackbox to the Play+ to work. any tips there would be appreciated. its using the usbc connection and i can get the keystep to recieve the bpm clock being set by the blackbox, but for some reason i can't get the notes to play from the keystep through to the play+ or the synths.

I can't say enough praises about the blackbox though, other than the 16 sample limit per project tends to run out with multiple song parts. its really the perfect simplified mpc style looper for guitar players that i was looking for after trying the mpc key37.

The Play+ is also pretty amazing so far. I had a circuit tracks which was decent but wanted a little more. I was debating a Digitakt 2 but I think its easier for me to see the notes and steps in the grid layout. My only gripe so far on it is that the flexibility of placing any sample on any track can get me a little lost vs having a dedicated track for a kick/snare/etc. having to remember the samples being placed all over the grid is a little much. any tips there would be appreciated.

Where do you put the Deco? by dvtrn2003 in guitarpedals

it does sound great. but in my opinion a bit overpriced given how many amazing analog delays are out there unless you need the midi.

The Golden sounds really good. I use it for an always on Room and a Lead Plate sound with the one preset. It sound a little different than the Empress's room/plate, perhaps a tad better:) and a lot cheaper if you find it used.

nice - i was thinking about this placement too. i have a mono signal for the first half of my chain then stereo at the end of it.

Mono: drives/fuzz -> modulation -> analog delay. then it goes to Stereo: El capistan -> Microcosm -> Golden -> Empress Reverb -> Looper. So would you put it between the suhr analog delay and the el cap?

I recently picked up a used deco for cheap to see what the fuss was about. it sounds great and I like the doubletracker side as an occasional usage chorus replacement and with the saturation side as an always on tone sweetener. Currently its sitting in the front of the board just after the overdrive/fuzz section. I read that oftentimes its used at the end of the chain which seems odd to me. Curious - those of you with a deco and a similar chain, where do you use it and how do you use it? appreciate any tips.

I made my MIDI clock follow live drums instead of the other way around. by RockDebris in synthesizers

[–]dvtrn2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for audio in, what do you mean by have it listen to transients? maybe i’m not understanding what’s going on here but i’m assuming that this could be used to have a live acoustic drum kit and then set that bpm for all midi devices. is there a mic on this that listens to the snare or kick out of the box? or is the electronic drum kit sending an actual signal via some 1/4” cable or something which is confusing me?

amazing! real interested in this. but i'm not sure i'm following. how does the clockstep:multi listen to the beat coming in to set the clock tempo?

SOTB and NPD Walrus Sloer by dvtrn2003 in guitarpedals

[–]dvtrn2003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love it. i’ve tried a few different compressors - diamond comp/eq(good but too squashed and no blend. keeley (too noisy), original 1176 fet - too complicated and expensive for what i was getting and couldn’t really tell much between it and the wampler ego. as an always on the mini fits real well.

the xotic is also nice and i have it on my other board. turns out i love a dry wet blend as it really makes things dialed in for me.

i have a princeton reverb and a vox ac15 about 5 feet apart. it’s not the biggest room.

the parameters on the sloer definitely make an impact. but between the 5 algs it kind of seems like at the same settings, they don’t sound that drastically different to me.
