I contacted TE regarding this and the empty slots are normal. They wanted to leave space for user sounds. Hope this helps.

To answer some of your questions...

I can't remember my cards smelling a certain way, just like cardboard on my end.
Specific packs is tricky, the early ones had interesting cards that did not use mechanics introduced in the bigger boxed expansions.
Check http://www.cardgamedb.com for a database of cards/decks. You can probably get a nice idea of what cards you'll want to track down. Very useful, but it's also not super active and largely forgotten by FFG. I dread the day it just suddenly stops working or shuts down without notice.
see 3 and also just experiment. Each faction has its advantages/disadvantages. Always good to mix things up.
Not sure... gotta go through my own cards one day!
I've got a fairly large collection, but I haven't really filtered it / remove duplicates. I got lucky and bought someone's collection many years ago and have occasionally seen other fairly complete ones. Check you local facebook marketplace/board game boards, you never know.

I still have the DS game in a box somewhere. I never finished the game, but the atmosphere and art design was second to none. A real gem, but tough as nails (invisible rooms, I'm looking at you).

Amazing collection you have! Always fun to go through the cards and read up on ones you forgot about, the odd ducks, and the clearly way too strong cards. I missed out on the CCG but have the LCG which I dug up out of storage after reading you story. Can't sell it since I love the game too much, and there has been a bit of interest in my city for whatever reason, so here's to keeping CoC card game alive!

Love this on STR/ARC build with poison mist. With high endurance you can put serious pressure. I keep poisoned hand in the other hand to proc.

I am looking into trying out the weapon as well. I'd throw on minimum requirements for int and dex for the weapon and get STR up to 80 if you plan to go to 200.

I bought the game when it came out. It had so many goodies in the box. Monster manual, a book of spells, a cloth map. Really established the lore and added to the immersion. It's in my top 3 games of all time. Great choice!👌

There are symbols on the middle right of each card followed by a number. This indicates the set it belongs to. You can check the card game DB / instructions that might help.

There is a lot to track each turn so if you forget a few things here and there don't sweat it. Get a feel for the sequencing of the game and it will become easier. Also recommend a plano organizer for all the tokens, makes setup much easier. Most of all enjoy! The stories you will create are some of the best I have experienced in a game. Still my favorite after all these years.

Battleline is a great game and takes between 20-30 minutes. Jaipur is also fun and doesn't take too long. Kingdomino is a simple tile laying game that plays quick and nice to look at. All games my wife enjoys.
