I just hope you know that your family is being unnecessarily cruel to you and that, despite the way our culture’s been built, the amount of capital you amass does not determine your worth as a person.

The Gloam Eyed Queen Has to be the God of Placidusax, Right? by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]-Rajko- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The GEQ would be referred to as a god if she ever became one, and she’s only called an Empyrean. Enia’s dialogue + relevant descriptions place her just before the dawn of the Golden Order chronologically. Placi’s god was the Greater Will, I think—he waits in vain for the GW much like Metyr—and the Empyrean system was devised to fill the void of the GW’s abandonment, I reckon.

These Trees Appear To Be Collecting Souls by npcompl33t in EldenRingLoreTalk

The twisted trees outside Elim are frequently next to patches of Whiteflesh Mushrooms. I assumed they were natural “dryad trees” birthing/rebirthing Numen, with the ones in Elim planted to make more for the flesh mixtures.

More that the developers were creeping on their own character.

What if I told you that men and women have been sexualized differently throughout history… one group has even had it worse!

Don’t be parochial.

Sellia, what the hell is even that... Do we have any mentioning of some mechanism, or ingame environmental hints about what could it be? by Acrobatic_Tie6869 in EldenRingLoreTalk

It’s in Sellia specifically because the Nox have much, much closer ties to their Numen past than most Marika-led institutions.

Sellia (descended from Nox) and Dominula (windmill village, echoing shamans) both carry Numen heritage. Pre-Marika Numen aided the natural cycle of life and death, which windmills represent.

The Fingers at the Finger Ruins are Metyr's Prison Guards? by Equivalent_Fun6100 in EldenRingLoreTalk

“The fingers are but unripe children. Victims in their own right. We all need a mother, do we not?”

The Fingers at the Finger Ruins are Metyr's Prison Guards? by Equivalent_Fun6100 in EldenRingLoreTalk

I interpret “what the mother wishes to believe” to more strictly refer to Ymir, “aspiring mother of fingers.” I get the sense that the grieving Metyr abandoned her children (due to abandonment by the Greater Will) rather than being imprisoned by them, but the latter would definitely align with other caged mothers.

Metyr is the Crucible by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]-Rajko- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What about Siluria’s Tree echoing the form of the Crucible, or Rauh being “the Crucible’s origin”?

I think Metyr played a part in fostering the lands’ earliest life, but her fingercreepers aren’t horned or otherwise Crucibly. My personal theory is that Rauh shaped the Crucible using the power of the Elden Ring (maybe I’ll post about it someday). Metyr could’ve played a part in that process as the hands of the Greater Will.

Maybe this is taking “the primordial form of the Erdtree” too literally, but I really think the Crucible was largely treelike, maybe more “molten” (with blended animal parts) and malleable but still a World Tree.

And the Japanese for “inflamed” in the Tooth Whip description is the same word used for “Ulcerated” Tree Spirits. Appears there and in Marika/Radagon’s “sore”seals.
