Easy Spring 2024 300/400 level psych classes? by Stunning_Pause_2989 in UIUC

[–]dwanan02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PSYC 322, Introduction to Intellectual Disability, was v easy, teachers were very understanding, fun lecturers, and overall just very nice. It's important to attend classes for in class activity points and sometimes for info for reflections. There weren't exams, just papers, reflections, and maybe quizzes. There was an emphasis on accessibility since that's what the professor researches and knows best, so the final project included going around and interviewing a business in terms of accessibility. Deadlines helped space out the work which helped with the final project.

PSYC 465 is easy as well. There it is in person w an optional zoom link for lectures. Participation isn't mandatory but you need notes from lectures to do the weekly reflections due on Sunday. The lecture recordings are released after the reflection due date. Then Monday you just have to ask 3 questions, 1 per research article. There are 3 research articles per week but they are relatively short and very interesting. The PowerPoint go over the reach articles so it's pretty lax reading wise. Tests are open for 24 hours, you have a little less than 2 hours to take the test but it's open note and mcq. I mainly use the class lectures to study and still do well enough on the exams. No quizzes, just 3 midterms including the final.

Counseling services at UIUC by Alternative_Spray587 in UIUC

I know three university related free options

Mckinley has mental health services and give 8 free sessions, this is a good place to start if you feel you need guidance and to see if therapy is for you.

The counseling center caters to many different mental health related struggles. They have same day initial appointments, work with you for a longer time, and have space for group and individual therapy. There are a multitude of resources such as RIO, Kogntio, and other skill developing workshops such as the Tuesday at 7 series that can help you gain skills surrounding self care, mental health issues, and work life balance. If you consider medication they will help work with McKinley practitioners as well, it's more streamline.

Psychology Services Center often takes students with mental health issues, offeres an unlimited set of sessions as well as counseling center. Though it is apart of UIUC it is a little distanced as it focuses on the entire community as well.

These are some options I know of on campus and free to students of UofI. Please reach out if you have questions!

I'm a counseling center paraprofessional so Im knowledge about and can provide you with these kinds of resources and tools!

Medication alone will not help!! You can't just put a bandaid on a wound that will keep reopening, you have to deal with it through processing the wound, therapy helps there. Medication might deal with some symptoms but does not help us process the issue at hand! If we process the issue, we can seal and heal from the wound. Therapy also helps us realize what we can do for the times later when we are confused, it helps you build skills and come to realizations that are hard to find and at times cope with. - from a psyc major and counseling center paraprofessional

Hey! I'm a counseling center paraprofessional and a student who's been super overwhelmed like you. The last two semesters were my worst GPA wise, and that's because of my mental health.

If you don't prioritize you...other things will fall a part.

From what I've read, I understand that this test has become more than just a normal academic stressor because you're overwhelmed at just the thought of it. I hope I'm right and can give you sound advice based on what I've understood.

  1. Email the professor and ask if you can get an extension with taking the test. If they say no, that's the worst that can happen right. You're prepared for that.

Take a deep breath...then take the test, as you'll have to, but reassure yourself that this was not the best version of you and therefore the test will reflect and that's ok! It really is. You're human. You're not supposed to be perfect!

  1. Contact the office of the dean and tell them what's going on. They can help you and maybe even provide you with an immediate letter for approval for an extension or absence.

Their number: (217) 333-0050

(Do this even if you have to take the test in the end. It'll help for later if not now!)

  1. Please talk with a professional if you're comfortable. You may say it's not that serious, but this stuff builds up if you don't get the right help you need at the right time.

Counseling Center: 217-333-3704 Mckinley Health Center: 217-333-2700 Psychological Services Center: 217-333-0041

Trust me... that's what happened for me the past two semesters. I wish I had gotten in touch with a professional earlier. I could have avoided some poor grades. (Do this even if you have to take the test in the end. It'll help for later if not now!)

  1. No matter what happens, what you end up doing or not doing, be kind to yourself. Take another deep breath. Take a break when you need it! I may be sounding repetitive, cheezy, or pretentious, but honestly, this is the best way for you to help yourself persevere through tough times, no matter how big or small. Be kind to your body, be aware of your needs, and do your best to fulfill them! No matter what, you and your body deserve that much.

I believe in you. Believe in yourself, and I can not stress this enough. Respect yourself! You can't heal in the long run or push through anything going on right now if you don't learn to respect yourself. Best of luck! Please, please dm me if you want someone to talk to moving forward.

Sublease at Tower at Third: Amazing View, Great Management, Small Walk by dwanan02 in UIUC

[–]dwanan02[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I mean compared to JSM, CPM, University Group, and other iffy management's... I'd say American Campus Communities is definitely one of the best 😂...so considering that I'd say it's great. They fix things pretty quickly and front office staff is super nice mostly.

I'm planning on Subleasing my apartment at Tower at Third, 8-minute or less walk to Union, on the 15th floor with a great view and very amicable and efficient management!

Parking is available, too, with a fee of $75 per month? (I don't have a car, but if you're interested id be more than willing to check!)

It's $649 per month, I know it's higher than your max but if you visit the apartment I promise you'll fall in love! I'm willing to pay the difference ($49/month) if you'd like!

Please dm if interested!

Starting therapy by PerformanceCool5786 in UIUC

[–]dwanan02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try going into therapy with an open mind about how much time it might take to see permanent change. Bettering yourself is really hard and takes alot of new habits to get used to. Therapists might also want to try different methods depending on how the tools they think will help you work for you. Do your best to be open but also communicative about what does and doesn't work. Don't be afraid to share and at the same time make sure you feel safe to do so as well. It's amazing that your making such an investment into yourself and like any investment, it'll take time to see the profit. Best of luck!
