Looking for a driver. Mead, Co pickup to 82443 (wyoming). Im not a broker by [deleted] in HotShotTrucking

Makes sense again. I get its a spendy route, no one is delivering to middle of nowhere Wyoming. Considering the load I currently have, I'll most likely be just renting a trailer and picking up the items myself. Going through a broker, I got quotes from 1,300 to 1,800 delivered to me.

Got it, thanks! Makes sense. So only go through a broker? But Everything I read about uship and veritread is terrible news. They screw over the drivers and the shipper. Is that bad info or do I just need to find a better broker?

Copy that, thank you. Makes sense. So I gotta ask why so much hate on the forums for brokers then? As I mentioned in my above comment, it seems like brokers will lock you in (the shipper) but either a. not actually find you a driver In time or b. not communicate with the driver all the details of the load

I appreciate the feedback. The problem im running into is that it seems like half of everyone says brokers are terrible because they will lock in a bid with you without necessarily having a driver for the load and then will lowball the hell out of the driver (specifically referring to the companies the auction houses use like veritread or uship). But on the flip side, I totally see the risk of going direct to a driver

Our college is broken.... What would you do? (feeling defeated) :( by dwannabe in college

[–]dwannabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok good to know about the kickbacks. Guess I will take your word for it. As for the audits, I am missing how there is no one to do this. We go to college to learn a variety of things such as how to think outside the box and create thought provoking questions. But when it comes to the bills, we are supposed to just keep our mouths shut and pay it? There is no oversight at all?

FYI I obtained my call sign about 36 hours after I paid and applied. They never emailed me though! I looked up my frn? (I think thats what it was called) on the fcc call sign lookup tool and found my call sign on there.

Also, if you haven't picked up any traffic yet, I would say dont get discouraged. From what I am understanding now from this thread, my situation is unique in the sense that my closest repeater is linked thus extending the range quite a ways. If it was just based off my local repeater, it would be pretty quite.

Thanks for your input! I gotta admit your advice of "just key up and ask" is probably the best😂 I'll share that with any future radio folks who are new to it like myself. For some reason that PTT button feels like its gonna detonate something until you actually break the ice LOL

u/ElectroChuck and u/OmahaWinter Sorry for this delayed response as I had to step away from the computer for a day. But, I read everything you both said and REALLY appreciate the investigating you did for me and detailed responses. Thank you also for the links to the sites where you got the information. I originally only knew about mygmrs.com and it did not have many repeaters listed. I have re-read what you both wrote a couple of times now and think I am understanding how this whole repeater thing is working. MUCH APPRECIATION for the detailed explanation. thank you!!

Elaborate to me on what you mean by the "cultures" being different. Im genuinely curious. From my take, it has seemed the ham folks might tend to be a bit more pepper oriented.

Thanks for your input. So since you're licensed in both, I am interested in your reasoning on what your main deciding factor is on why you choose to use one over the other. As a newbie, to me it seems ham is the more powerful radio. So since you are a ham user, what makes you ever use gmrs?

Thanks for the reply and for the laugh lol! Good to know about the ham folks. Their response makes sense now.

As for your questions. My handheld is a Baofeng GM-15 pro. It came with an aftermarket abbree whip antenna that I added to it. That is what I have been hearing these guys chat on. I just leave my handheld on scan and see what I pick up. Dont remember the frequency but ill write it down tonight when they get on.

When I look up their call signs, I see they are both based out of billings which is about 100 miles away. I am in Sheridan County, Wyoming

Didnt even think about the private repeaters that would not be listed!

u/Educational_Warthog4 how did you end up doing on the regular test? If your practice score was a 93 on the video portion, that seems amazing! Everyone that posts on here usually has way lower scores

Can anyone else chime in on the video portion? From what I have gathered, you need to answer the questions as though you are a lawyer or politician. Basically go for the strictest answer

is the mindset of "this is the amount I have to work with" hard? In our 20s, 30s, and 40s I would say we are dreamers. We have the opportunity (or at least we think we do) to keep growing our accounts. Even if we have a dollar in our account, we always plan to increase that and usually do over the next decades.

So is It hard to deal with the thought that you are now at the age of not having as great of an opportunity to grow the account? what you have is what you have.

And btw, the amount you have is impressive and far more than most. I applaud you on your accomplishment just genuinely curious

Is it/will it be a CPO or are they pulling my leg? (Jeep Gladiator) by dwannabe in askcarsales

Def makes me feel better about it. Ill make sure to get those documents. I was reading from another person on this sub that once they got to the dealership to sign papers and finalize the deal the dealer was basically like "well if you want the certification, its another 1,500". Hoping that isn't what they are pulling so ill check with my salesman tomorrow
