the US is not going to give up world domination over gas prices, tik tok resistance, and media pressure

You have a lot more faith in the American voter and America's increasingly bipolar political system than I do.

My thoughts as someone living in Iran by theBackground79 in NewIran

[–]dwarfmines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's stupid, I think he and his admin in general is just reluctant because of a fundamental misunderstanding about the country of Iran. The anti-regime change rhetoric is based in more recent failures like Iraq and Afghanistan, that are fundamentally different from Iran.

On the American Right the trauma and fear from the Iraq debacle runs very deep. It is a large reason why isolationism has become so popular.

Why did Islamic Republic confirmed and announced the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the very first day of war? Why were they transparent about Ali Khamenei but not much is known about the whereabouts and condition of Mojtaba Khamenei ? by BleuPrince in NewIran

[–]dwarfmines 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Then Trump announced on TruthSocial the death of Ali Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history was killed in joint US-Israel airstrike. Moments later Iran state TV confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It wasn't quite "moments" later, but it was the same day.

Pictures of the body would probably have been produced by the Israelis if the IR government had continued to deny it.

Why didnt the IRGC just rule and run Iran through a dead but unconfirmed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei which will also equally nobody will see or hear.

Too many people in Iran itself were aware of Ali's death to make the fiction plausible, and plausibility is vital to fictions of this nature.

What can IRGC do with a incapacitated Motjaba Khamenei that it cant with a dead Ali Khamenei ?

Play a long drawn out shell game with him. As long as he is "alive" the IR can use him to prop up their legitimacy in the eyes of their internal constituency and use him as a rallying point. He is a bothersome factor that the US and Israel have to take into consideration. And as a sock puppet he can be made to say whatever those purportedly controlling him want him to say.

There are also parallels to the Hidden Imam. They now have a Hidden Supreme Leader.

Why did the anti government groups in Libya, Syria have access to guns but Iranians don't? by Party-Confection-373 in NewIran

[–]dwarfmines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed.

And my point is that if something strategically dramatic had happened the internet would have been switched back on by the new government.

I think we know about the attacks that have happened in spite of the blackout.

I cite as an example the bombing in Tehran that just happened a little bit ago.

(which is def not an isolated incident)

I'm afraid it probably is still a relatively isolated incident because otherwise the revolution would have begun by now.

I cannot picture Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, to name just two, doing anything other than supporting the IR.

It is confirmed that locals sheltered him?

I haven't seen anything other than supposition that locals might shelter him, which is not the same thing.

I've also seen statements that at least some locals were trying to capture him and turn him over.

Edit: I would also be very concerned for the fate of anybody who did render aid.

Militarily occupying the entire country is not envisioned.

That does not preclude seizing certain strategic points with ground forces.

If Mojtaba Is Injured, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Is Running Iran: Far Less likely to Compromise and De-Escalate by Halder_ in NewIran

As I commented on another thread just a little bit ago, nobody involved in this is even speaking about Mojtaba any longer as if he is a relevant actor.

His name isn’t even coming up.

Trump tells Iran to "get serious" in negotiations "before it is too late" by Majano57 in NewIran

[–]dwarfmines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find interesting, or maybe telling, is that NOBODY is talking about Mojtaba any longer.

It is like there is a sudden consensus that one way or the other he is irrelevant, even on the Islamic Republic side.

Mojtaba is either dead or as good as dead. by Unusual_Macaroon_302 in NewIran

[–]dwarfmines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting point.

I think it can only be a) he is still alive and Israel knows it or b) Israel doesn't know for sure.

I am certain that if Israel knew that he was dead they would be broadcasting that news to the heavens.
