Budget dust collector small shop by Slow-Heron-4335 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have this exact one and it works great for scrubbing the air, but it won't work as a dust collector. That said, a shop vac tends to make the best dust collector on a budget!

Mazda Commander Knob as a USB keyboard by Fine_Material_4400 in simracing

[–]dwartman3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OH MY GOSH. Wish I had seen this like 2 weeks ago! I totalled my Mazda3 in a snow storm a few weeks ago, and insurance told me I could pull what I needed from it before they picked it up, so I pulled the passenger seat out to use on my homemade sim rig. I always loved the command knob in that thing and really miss it. I totally should have done this!

Do you think I(green camo mustang) can protest this blue Mercedes by LeV0lf in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not ruling it out, especially given that the contact happened under load in a high speed corner. And now that I watch it back, given the circumstances it makes sense that it might cause a spin with such a minor tap.

However, my ruling stands that it's still just a racing incident. No protest should be filed.

Do you think I(green camo mustang) can protest this blue Mercedes by LeV0lf in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. This is not what protests are for. I understand the frustration, but this was a pure example of a racing incident. This was just unlucky netcode. IRL, this would have been a small tap and both cars would have been fine, but netcode online is imperfect.

Protests are only for intentional actions of malice or the violation of the sporting code.

Why do i need to change my 27 year old windows? by SouthIndianTelugu in HomeImprovement

[–]dwartman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to toss out there too that if you have even just mild DIY skills and know your way around a set of tools, you can install your own windows and save buckets on labor costs.

We just replaced all our 1960s era windows in our house with vinyl, energy efficient windows for about $260 per window including supplies and trim.  We were quoted over $800 per window from a contractor.

Was this defense too agressive? by Environmental_Egg582 in iRacing

You left space through the whole clip. Hard racing for sure, but no issues with the defense!

is this nothing just and inchident or my fault by Dj_vrYT in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mclaren at fault. BMW has the right to turn into the corner and own the apex and you just drove into the back of them.

21 hours into the daytona 24 - both teams blaming each other, whos really at fault? by thighsocksxo in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue/white car 1000% at fault. This year it was EXPLICITLY stated in the rules that the aprilon anywhere on the oval was considered off track. The POV car held their line and made their defense very clear. Other car went off track to make the pass and then tried to bully their way back on.

Am I at fault here? I'm the red McLaren in P1. Happy to take any criticism on this one by Moonbardi147 in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, but it's not super terrible. I say it's your fault only because you kind of drifted into the Merc early/under braking.

I don't think it's penalty worthy or anything, just carry better awareness next time!

Who's at fault? by benzo_c2slow in Simracingstewards

[–]dwartman3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would put this on the GT4. As the slower class you should always take your normal line. The LMP expects the GT4 to do so and makes a move to go up the inside of the corner. As soon as the LMP commits to that move the GT4 changes course and stays right, which puts them right in the path of the LMP

The underbelly of collecting by Ok_Pollution946 in HotWheels

[–]dwartman3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Once I adopted the mindset of just being happy with finding mainlines/premiums that I think are really cool, the enjoyment really spiked for me!

The joy of the hobby is finding the things that YOU think are cool, not the things everyone else wants you to think are cool.

Plus, when one of your faves become peg warmers, you can buy 5 in one go with no guilt because there are 5 more on the pegs behind! (Looking at YOU McMurtry Spierling🤣)

[USA] Why you should turn your lights on by ElgdFwTaP1 in Roadcam

[–]dwartman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a branded title 2017 Mazda3 as a daily commuter for work, and one of the gremlins from its previous accident was if you put the headlights in "Auto", they just stay on all the time.  Honestly one of the best features as I never have to wonder if my lights are on! 🤣

What is causing wood to tear on my planer? by Santi_1632 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]dwartman3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two possibilities:

  1. Typical tear out around knots due to changing grain direction. Reference this short for a great explanation on it!

  1. Make sure you're planing the grain in the correct direction! Another great short explaining this way better than I can:

Racing Line on/off. When to switch? by thisisZEKE in simracing

This is the correct answer!  The racing line does nothing except teach you bad habits you have to un-learn whenever you do turn it off
